How to Rerun Call of Duty Match VODs on YouTube Without Black Frames

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Find where the black image first appears before changing settings: check the OBS preview, a short local recording, the processed YouTube video, and playback on another device. If the local file is already black, troubleshoot capture or encoding; if it is clean, investigate YouTube processing or viewer playback. No single setting is guaranteed to fix every cause.

Locate where the black frames begin

“Rerun” can mean capturing a new replay, uploading a local match recording, or checking an archive of a livestream. The exact Call of Duty edition, platform, operating system, and OBS version matter, so start with the same workflow you used to make the VOD.

  1. Check the capture preview. If the game is black in OBS while you are recording, investigate game capture first.
  2. Make a brief test recording. Inspect the saved file locally before recording or uploading a full match. This separates a capture problem from an upload or playback problem.
  3. Compare the local file with YouTube. If the file is clean but the YouTube version is not, check upload and processing settings.
  4. Try playback on another device. If the black image occurs only on one device, troubleshoot playback rather than assuming the recording is defective.

Missing gameplay frames are different from black bars caused by a mismatch between the game image and the scene layout.

Fix a black OBS game-capture preview

For Call of Duty game capture on Windows, OBS’s official troubleshooting guidance recommends running OBS as administrator. Its Call of Duty-specific page is dated January 12, 2022, and does not establish that the same behavior applies to every game edition or platform. See OBS’s game-capture troubleshooting guidance.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Close OBS.
  2. Right-click the OBS shortcut and choose Run as administrator.
  3. Open the scene containing Call of Duty and test the game-capture source again.
  4. Record a short clip and inspect the saved file, not only the preview.

If the preview remains black, check whether overlays or fullscreen behavior are interfering with capture. OBS identifies both as troubleshooting considerations; the result can depend on the game and setup. Avoid assuming that changing an upload setting will repair footage that is already black in the local recording.

Check scene size and framing

A source that does not fill the canvas can leave black bars around the gameplay. That is a layout issue, not missing black frames in the captured video.

  1. In OBS, select the game source in the preview.
  2. Use Transform options to fit the source to the scene, then inspect the edges for cropping or empty space.
  3. Check Settings > Video. The Base (Canvas) Resolution controls the scene workspace; Output (Scaled) Resolution controls the scaled output.
  4. After changing the base canvas, recheck source positioning and size; OBS notes that sources may need repositioning or resizing.
  5. Record another short test and inspect it at full frame.

Do not crop or stretch a clean recording just to conceal intermittent black frames. OBS’s resolution and scaling guidance explains the distinction between canvas and output dimensions.

Prepare a local recording or upload for YouTube

YouTube recommends encoding and uploading content at the same frame rate used to record it. Its standard examples include 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, and 60 frames per second. These are examples, not a requirement to convert your match to one particular rate. Review YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

  • Frame rate: Match the recording frame rate rather than converting it without a reason.
  • Container and video: YouTube’s recommended upload profile includes MP4 and H.264.
  • Scan and color: The profile specifies progressive scan and BT.709 for SDR video.
  • Editing exports: YouTube warns that MP4 edit lists can interfere with processing. If a processed upload develops a problem that is absent from the local file, check the export path and try a clean export.
  • Resolution and performance: Resolution and frame rate affect system performance. Test the settings you intend to use on your own PC instead of treating a single configuration as universal.

YouTube’s bitrate guidance is a recommendation, not a guarantee against capture gaps. If the local recording contains black frames, investigate the capture and recording process first; upload bitrate cannot restore frames that were never recorded.

Check a livestream archive before rerunning it

For a VOD created from a live stream, inspect both the stream and the local archive. Before relying on a full match, test similar movement and audio, monitor stream health, and confirm that the local archive is intact and continues growing. YouTube publishes separate recommendations for live encoder input and uploaded video; do not treat upload settings as a substitute for a correctly configured live encoder.

  • Live encoding: YouTube recommends H.264 with CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed four seconds. These are live-encoding recommendations, not a repair for black frames already in a source file. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
  • Stream health: Use YouTube’s live control room to monitor the incoming stream and check for warnings while testing. YouTube’s live-streaming troubleshooting page describes stream-health checks.
  • Local archive: Verify that the recording is present and playable while it is being made. A stream appearing live does not prove that the local archive is intact.
  • DVR: YouTube DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a live event. It does not repair black frames already present in the source or archive. Read about DVR on live streams.

Separate a YouTube playback issue from a bad file

If the local recording plays cleanly but a YouTube viewer sees black video, try the playback troubleshooting steps YouTube recommends and test another device. Compare the same point in the video and, if possible, try another network or browser. If the local file also goes black at that point, return to the capture and encoding checks instead. YouTube’s video playback troubleshooting guide covers viewer-side checks.

Copyright and reused footage when you upload a rerun

Technical fixes do not change YouTube’s rules for the footage itself. Before publishing a rerun, make sure you have the rights needed for the game footage and any music, voice chat, or other material included in the recording. A clean VOD can still face copyright claims or other restrictions. YouTube’s reused-content monetization policy is a separate consideration from whether a video has black frames; eligibility depends on the channel and content, not on the capture settings described here.

Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is a separate option for prerecorded YouTube programming, not a fix for black frames in a gameplay recording.
