To keep a speedrun archive on YouTube Live around the clock, send a sequence or loop of recorded runs from an encoder to a YouTube stream. A local encoder requires a computer and internet connection that stay available; a cloud service can run the feed remotely. Before you start, confirm you have the rights to rebroadcast every game and any separately controlled music, clips, or other material in the recordings.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is eligible to live stream. YouTube’s stated requirements, checked October 3, 2026, include channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a minimum age of 16 to live stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
- An encoder that can send video to YouTube and play your speedrun files in sequence or on repeat. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain the ingest connection; playlist and looping controls depend on the encoder you choose.
- A stable upstream internet connection if encoding locally. Set the stream bitrate to a level the connection can sustain, and test it before the public broadcast.
- Permission to rebroadcast each game and every separately controlled asset in the footage. A speedrun recording is not automatically cleared for continuous rebroadcast.
- An independent copy of the recordings. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; it recommends keeping a local archive. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
How to send multiple speedrun videos to YouTube Live
- Confirm the channel is eligible. Check YouTube Studio for live-streaming access before preparing the broadcast. If the channel is not eligible, resolve that first; an encoder cannot bypass YouTube’s restrictions.
- Create or select the stream. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live, then create a stream or select the one you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- Copy the ingest details into the encoder. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not publish it in a video, chat, screenshot, or public configuration.
- Build and verify the playback sequence. Add the recordings in the intended order and configure the encoder to continue through the list or repeat it. The exact playlist and loop controls vary by encoder; YouTube’s ingest instructions do not prescribe a specific speedrun-file looping setup. Confirm the behavior in the encoder you use, including what happens when the final file ends.
- Set the stream quality to match your connection. Choose a resolution and bitrate your upload can sustain rather than maximizing quality by default. YouTube recommends testing the encoder settings before going live and monitoring stream health; its guidance is available at YouTube’s encoder settings and live-streaming recommendations. If the encoder offers RTMPS, use it where available.
- Run a private or unlisted preflight. Check picture, game and commentary audio, transitions between files, the playlist order, and whether playback resumes or stops when an item ends. Watch YouTube’s Live Control Room for stream-health notices while the test is running.
- Start sending the feed, then monitor it. Start streaming from the encoder and confirm that the preview appears in YouTube’s Live Control Room before making the stream public. During operation, check the encoder and YouTube health indicators rather than assuming a long playlist is still transmitting correctly.
- Keep a separate archive. Save the source recordings locally or make another independent backup. For separately discoverable runs, plan individual recordings and their titles and metadata separately instead of relying on a single continuous YouTube archive.
Local encoder or cloud service?
A local encoder gives you direct control of files and playlist behavior, but the computer and its network connection have to remain available for the stream to continue. A cloud service moves the continuous feed off your home computer. The choice is about operating the feed, not permission: neither approach grants rebroadcast rights, and YouTube’s archive limitation still makes an independent recording or backup important.
| Consideration | Local encoder | Cloud service |
|---|---|---|
| What must stay on? | The computer running the encoder and its internet connection. | Your home computer does not need to stay on; check the service’s current terms and operating details. |
| Playlist and looping | You configure playback in the encoder; exact controls vary. | Confirm that the service supports your required playlist order and repeat behavior before relying on it. |
| Health checks and recovery | Monitor the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room. | Check what monitoring and restart behavior the service provides; do not assume equivalent controls. |
| Separate backup | Keep the original files or make a local recording. | Keep an independent copy of the recordings; do not treat the broadcast archive as the only backup. |
| Rights and eligibility | Neither the encoder nor the computer clears footage for rebroadcast. | A cloud service does not clear footage or replace YouTube’s channel requirements. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the feed running without a computer or home connection staying on. It can stream uploaded videos at the quality you made them, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is an operating option, not permission to rebroadcast game footage; confirm rights for the runs and other assets yourself.
Check game and recording rights before rebroadcasting
Review the policy for the publisher of every game in the archive. Also check rights for music, commentary, overlays, clips, or other material controlled by someone else. A publisher’s policy for its own games does not establish permission for another publisher’s titles or for every element in a particular recording.

Capcom’s policy is one example, not a general clearance: it permits specified forms of Capcom game footage, including speedruns, subject to its stated conditions, and says third-party content requires checking with the appropriate rights holders. The policy page says it was last updated March 15, 2021, so consult the current policy before relying on it. See Capcom’s video policy.
Describe the broadcast accurately as a replay or archive where that helps viewers understand that the footage is recorded. The available YouTube guidance does not establish a universal requirement to attach a particular “pre-recorded” label to every such stream.

Troubleshooting a continuous speedrun stream
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
- Recheck the server URL and stream key in the encoder against the stream selected in YouTube Studio.
- Confirm that the encoder is actually sending, and that the channel is eligible to stream.
- If you suspect the stream key has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder before resuming.
The picture freezes or dropped frames increase
- Check the encoder’s dropped-frame or connection-health indicators. OBS notes that increasing dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the selected bitrate; see OBS’s dropped-frames guidance.
- Reduce the configured bitrate or resolution to a sustainable level, then test again. Check the available upload capacity rather than relying only on download speed.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream-health notices and verify stability with a test before returning to a public broadcast.
Playback stops at the end of a run or playlist
- Check the encoder’s playlist and repeat settings. YouTube receives the encoder’s feed but does not configure file transitions or looping for it.
- Test the final-file behavior before going live, and verify that the next item starts with the expected audio and picture.
The stream ends or YouTube has no complete archive
- Check the encoder and Live Control Room to distinguish an encoder, connection, or YouTube-side interruption.
- Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive for a 24/7 feed: YouTube warns that broadcasts longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
- Retain source files or another independent recording so a platform archive is not your only copy.
Costs and practical trade-offs
For a local setup, a computer must stay powered and connected while the encoder runs; a mini PC is one possible hardware category, but the requirements depend on the encoder, source format, and chosen quality. There is no single hardware specification that fits every setup. A cloud option can remove the need to keep a home computer on, but compare its current playlist controls, recovery behavior, monitoring, storage, terms, and price against your needs before moving a long-running feed. In either case, budget time to test and keep a separate archive.
