There is no single answer. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt them; a standard Content ID claim is generally made after the stream ends only if it is archived. For an archived video, the rights holder’s policy, the territories and segments covered, and whether the creator disputes the claim determine what happens to its revenue. When both sides seek monetization and the creator disputes in time, YouTube holds the revenue until the dispute is resolved.
What happens while the broadcast is live?
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the streamer to stop using the material. If the material continues, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright strike or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a live stream. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance describes this live enforcement separately from a standard Content ID claim on an archived video.
That distinction matters for a 24/7 broadcast: a live interruption is not itself the same thing as a post-stream claim and revenue decision. The live stream can be disrupted while it is running; standard Content ID claims are made after the stream is complete, if the creator chooses to archive it.
Licensed material can still trigger an interruption
If you have permission to use the material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a stream can still be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted, even when the creator has a licence. The licence should cover YouTube live streaming and archived replays, and allowlisting may still be necessary. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms and conditions.

What happens to an archived 24/7 stream?
If the completed broadcast is archived, a rights holder can make a Content ID claim against matching material. The claimant’s selected policy can monetize, track, or block the video, and the result may vary by country or region. Different claimants can also cover different segments or territories, so one archived stream may not have a single outcome everywhere. A monetize policy can place ads on the video; YouTube says claimants sometimes share revenue with the uploader, but its general guidance does not promise a fixed split or establish that either party always receives all the money. YouTube’s explanation of Content ID claims describes these policy options and territorial differences.
| Claim outcome | What it means for the archived video |
|---|---|
| Monetize | The claimant’s policy monetizes the matching content; the video may earn ad revenue, and a claimant may sometimes share revenue with the uploader. A universal split is not specified. |
| Track | The claimant tracks the matching content rather than using a block or monetization policy in that context. |
| Block | The video may be unavailable in the territories where the block policy applies. |
These policies concern the archived video. They do not tell you, by themselves, whether YouTube will interrupt the live broadcast; live scanning and enforcement are a separate process.

Live Content ID matching is a separate feature
YouTube’s real-time Content ID matching for live streams is limited to eligible Content Manager partners. It does not create standard Content ID claims, and copies cannot be tracked or monetized through that live-matching feature. A match can lead to warnings, replacement of the stream’s picture and sound, and eventual termination. The live-stream copyright guidance explains the difference.
When is disputed claim revenue paid?
When both the uploader and claimant seek monetization, YouTube can keep the video earning while a claim is disputed, but it holds the accrued revenue separately until the dispute is resolved. YouTube says it then pays the appropriate party. The timing depends on when the creator disputes the claim:

| Creator’s action | When YouTube says it holds revenue | If the creator takes no action |
|---|---|---|
| Disputes within five days of the claim | From the claim date | Held revenue is released to the claimant five days after the claim date. |
| Disputes after five days | From the date the dispute is filed | Held revenue is released to the claimant five days after the claim date. |
| Does not dispute | There is no dispute process to resolve. | Held revenue is released to the claimant five days after the claim date. |
These five-day rules are YouTube’s stated claim-dispute procedure, not a guarantee of a particular payout amount. If a creator appeals a reinstated claim, the same general timing applies: an appeal within five days holds revenue from the claim date; a later appeal holds it from the appeal date; no action results in held revenue being released to the claimant after five days. See YouTube’s guidance on monetization during copyright claim disputes.
A creator can turn off monetization during a dispute. Revenue from an active disputed or appealed claim does not appear in Analytics while the matter is unresolved. If the claim is released, revenue for the dispute period is added later; YouTube says reporting usually occurs between the 10th and 20th of a subsequent month, depending on when the dispute is resolved. YouTube’s dispute and Analytics guidance describes this reporting delay.

Are live-ad earnings the same as claim revenue?
No. A monetized channel can enable pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads on a live stream, but YouTube does not guarantee an ad will serve in every slot. Those are ordinary live-stream ads; they do not decide who receives revenue from a claimed archived video. YouTube Analytics reports live-stream and replay ad revenue separately using the Live filter. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
What you can—and cannot—know about a particular payout
To identify the recipient in a specific case, you need the claim details, the claimant and rights involved, the matching segment and applicable territories, the claimant’s policy, and any dispute or appeal outcome. YouTube’s general help guidance does not establish a fixed claimant percentage, guaranteed revenue split, or representative earnings figure for a 24/7 broadcast. Do not assume that a claimed stream’s revenue is always paid entirely to the claimant or always retained by the creator.
