If audio starts synchronized with the animation but gradually falls behind or moves ahead, first measure how the offset changes over time. A steady offset points to a different problem than drift that accumulates during playback. For a 24/7 feed, also check whether synchronization changes abruptly at a loop or asset boundary. The exact fix depends on the FFmpeg build, command, media timestamps, and output path; the title alone does not establish a single cause.
First determine what kind of sync problem you have
Compare audio and video at the start, after a representative interval, and after an asset or segment transition. Record whether the offset stays roughly constant, grows smoothly, or jumps suddenly. Those patterns are clues for diagnosis, not proof of a particular cause.
- Constant offset: The streams are already separated at the beginning and remain about as far apart. Investigate their start timestamps and any intentional input offset.
- Gradual drift: They begin close to synchronized, then separate with elapsed playback. Investigate clock, sample cadence, and timestamp behavior.
- Boundary jump: Sync changes at a loop, file change, or segment transition. Inspect timestamps around that point and how the incoming media’s clock begins.
A fixed timestamp offset shifts timing; it does not correct a mismatch that keeps accumulating. Likewise, a 24/7 schedule makes long-run and boundary checks important, but does not by itself indicate a special FFmpeg defect.
Measure the offset before changing the command
Check stream timing with ffprobe
Inspect the audio and video start times, durations, and reported frame-rate fields. Note whether the video is variable-frame-rate and whether files or segments have inconsistent timestamp origins. The FFmpeg cookbook’s audio/video sync guide gives examples of examining stream start times and frame-rate fields; treat it as practical secondary guidance and verify options against official documentation for your installed build.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Watch ffplay’s synchronization statistics
Play the relevant feed or a representative capture in ffplay with its statistics display enabled. The FFplay documentation says this display includes stream duration, codec parameters, current position, and audio/video synchronization drift. The same manual explains that the master clock controls audio-video synchronization; audio is the default master clock in most players, while changing it may be relevant in some streaming or high-quality broadcast cases. The -sync option is mainly for debugging.
Preserve the details needed to reproduce the issue
Before editing anything, save the complete command and note the FFmpeg version/build, input formats, output protocol, and whether drift occurs within one asset or only at transitions. In particular, record relevant uses of -copyts, -itsoffset, -stream_loop, -re, stream mapping, filters, codecs, and output options. If possible, compare a local recording of FFmpeg’s output with the downstream player or platform: a receiver-side display or playback issue cannot be diagnosed from the command alone.

Choose a correction based on the observed pattern
If the offset is constant
Check audio and video start timestamps and whether an intentional input offset is present or needed. An offset changes when a stream starts relative to another; it is not a remedy for growing drift unless measurements show the issue is a fixed start-time difference.
If the offset grows gradually
Investigate whether audio sample cadence and stream timestamps diverge. The cookbook suggests -af "aresample=async=1:first_pts=0" as a possible starting point for gradual drift. Do not apply it blindly: confirm the current aresample option semantics in the official FFmpeg Filters Documentation for your installed build, then compare results over a representative runtime.

This filter processes audio, so it is not a stream-copy-only adjustment. If your command uses audio stream copy, applying an audio filter means the audio must be decoded and re-encoded. Check the audio codec and output settings accordingly; the available information does not establish a universally suitable filter value or encoding configuration.
If sync jumps at a loop or segment boundary
Inspect packet timestamps immediately before and after the transition. Determine whether the next input begins with a reset or discontinuous clock, and whether the issue occurs at every boundary or only with a particular asset. Do not assume -stream_loop is the cause unless your command uses it and the measurements support that diagnosis.

Understand timestamp discontinuity handling before changing flags
FFmpeg documents automatic correction of timestamp discontinuities for formats that accept them, including MPEG-TS and HLS. The behavior is automatically disabled when -copyts is used, apart from timestamp wrapping detection. Check the input format and timestamp options before changing flags; see the FFmpeg documentation.
A common shift that makes timestamps begin at zero does not necessarily repair relative audio/video sync. FFmpeg documents that when a common shift is applied, the relative timestamp differences among audio, video, and subtitles are preserved.

Keep a 24/7 FFmpeg feed running without confusing hosting and sync
FFmpeg’s protocol documentation describes RTMP as multimedia streaming over TCP/IP and includes an example of publishing an input with FFmpeg. A VPS or other persistent host can keep a process running, but hosting does not repair incorrect timestamps. Treat uptime infrastructure and synchronization remediation as separate problems.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your animated story is a prerecorded video or playlist and you want it to run continuously on YouTube without keeping a computer on at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded video; it does not stream from a camera, and it is for YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required. The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
StreamNeo does not diagnose or correct audio sync problems in your source video. Check the recording and playback before uploading. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
