First find out where the audio stops. Start the YouTube radio stream, switch away from OBS, and watch the relevant source meter in OBS’s Audio Mixer. If the meter keeps moving but you hear nothing, check the monitoring and listening route. If it stops, troubleshoot the browser playback or the OBS capture source. “OBS loses focus” can describe several different setups, so there is no single fix that applies to all of them.
Identify which app is playing the audio
Before changing settings, identify how the YouTube player reaches OBS. The likely cases are different:
- Ordinary browser playback: YouTube plays in Chrome, Brave, or another browser. OBS may not capture its audio at all.
- Captured browser or display: YouTube plays in a browser, and OBS captures that window or the display. The browser’s playback and OBS’s capture are separate parts of the path.
- OBS Browser Source: YouTube is loaded inside a Browser Source in an OBS scene. This is not the same as capturing a separate Chrome window.
Knowing which setup you have matters: a problem with browser playback is not necessarily an OBS audio-routing problem.
Use the OBS mixer meter to locate the failure
- Start the YouTube radio audio in the setup you normally use.
- Switch away from OBS in the same way that usually triggers the problem.
- Watch the meter for the source that should carry the audio in OBS’s Audio Mixer.
The meter shows whether OBS is receiving an audio signal from that source. OBS’s monitoring control serves a different purpose: it plays the source through the monitoring device configured in OBS. That distinction points to the next check.

If the meter continues moving
OBS is still receiving audio, so check the listening route rather than changing the capture source first. Confirm that OBS is monitoring to the intended device, that the operating system is using the intended sound output, and that the relevant application’s volume is not turned down. Operating-system and individual application volume controls can affect what you hear; test the actual system and output device involved.
If the meter stops
OBS is no longer receiving audio from that source. Check that the intended capture source or device is selected and active, then check whether the browser or player itself has stopped playing. If you use a scene-specific audio capture source, verify that it is present in the active scene.

Check OBS audio capture and avoid duplicate routing
OBS supports scene-specific Audio Input Capture and Audio Output Capture sources on Windows and macOS. On Linux, the available capture options use ALSA or PulseAudio. The exact source choices depend on your platform and setup.
- In the scene that should carry the radio audio, inspect its Sources list and confirm that the intended audio capture source is enabled.
- Check that the source is capturing the intended input or output device, rather than a different headset, speaker, or audio endpoint.
- If you add a scene-specific Audio Input or Output Capture source, check Settings → Audio for a duplicate selection of the same device. OBS warns that selecting the same device globally and in a scene can cause echo.
- Return to the mixer and test again while switching away from OBS. Use the meter to see whether the source is now reaching OBS.
Consider the reported browser-capture freeze only if your setup matches
A narrowly matching report may be relevant if you use Windows 11, OBS 32.1.2, Chrome or Brave, and Window Capture or Display Capture—and the browser’s playback freezes after a resize or after bringing the browser forward. In an OBS GitHub issue opened June 13, 2026, a reporter said that changing to a D3D9 ANGLE backend setting or capturing a different window avoided the problem on their system.

That is one user’s report, not a confirmed general fix or an OBS-wide diagnosis. Treat those workarounds as leads only if your operating system, OBS version, browser, capture method, and freeze behavior closely match. The report does not establish that the same problem affects other configurations.
Keep Browser Source stuttering separate from captured-window problems
A different report concerns stuttering video or animations in an OBS Browser Source when OBS loses focus on Windows 11; the reporter alleges process throttling. It is a separate user report, not proof that the same issue causes an audio-only YouTube radio stream to stop. If your YouTube player is inside a Browser Source, diagnose that source separately from a captured Chrome window.
