You can run a continuous YouTube stream of Tamil bedtime stories from an Ubuntu VPS by sending prerecorded, rights-cleared media to YouTube with FFmpeg and supervising the encoder with systemd. Use YouTube’s current RTMPS ingest settings, choose an output the VPS can sustain, and monitor stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. This is a practical architecture, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming: no particular VPS size or 24/7 uptime is established for this workload.
How the VPS streaming setup works
The VPS stores and plays the story media; FFmpeg publishes it to a YouTube Live broadcast; systemd can restart FFmpeg if the process fails. YouTube receives the stream, but a running process alone does not prove that viewers are receiving healthy video and audio.
- Ubuntu VPS: an always-available machine with the story files and enough network capacity for the chosen stream. No minimum CPU, memory, storage, or provider specification is established for this workload, so test the actual media and configuration.
- FFmpeg: the encoder and publisher. Its options depend on the installed build and the input media.
- YouTube Live: provides the broadcast’s ingest settings and stream key.
- systemd: supervises the FFmpeg process and can restart it after certain failures; it cannot by itself detect every YouTube-side freeze or connection problem.
For a quiet bedtime-story channel, a single still or gently animated scene with narration can reduce visual complexity. More animation may need more encoding capacity. The reviewed guidance does not rank these formats or establish their resource requirements.
Set up and start the stream

Prepare the VPS and media
Choose an Ubuntu VPS and transfer story recordings and artwork for which you have the necessary rights. Confirm that the files play correctly and that the installed FFmpeg build supports the formats and codecs you plan to use. Create a YouTube Live broadcast
In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the broadcast and obtain its current ingest settings and stream key. Keep the key secret: do not put it in a public script, repository, or logs. Use the endpoint and key supplied for the broadcast rather than assuming a fixed endpoint.

Choose encrypted ingest and suitable encoder settings
Prefer RTMPS, which Google describes as RTMP over SSL/TLS. Follow Google’s RTMPS instructions for the endpoint, port 443, and hostname/SNI handling; a plain RTMP example is not a secure substitute.

YouTube’s encoder guidance accepts RTMP/RTMPS ingest; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; and constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
H.264 output YouTube-listed minimum bitrate YouTube-listed recommended bitrate 720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps 1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps These are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not a guarantee of visual quality or a universal minimum VPS upload speed. For a modest static or gently animated scene, 720p at 30 fps may be a reasonable starting point if the server can encode it and sustain the upload. Match the bitrate to the actual output and available capacity, then check YouTube’s stream health.

Test FFmpeg with the chosen media
The Ubuntu FFmpeg manual documents real-time input using
-reand an RTMP publishing example. Adapt the input, codecs, bitrate, keyframe interval, and destination to the installed FFmpeg build and YouTube’s current RTMPS settings. Do not copy a plain RTMP example and treat it as secure RTMPS. A single generic command cannot safely stand in for those build-specific and broadcast-specific settings.Test representative narration, video, and artwork before making the broadcast public. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Confirm playback and audio in Live Control Room and read its stream-health messages before relying on the setup.

Supervise FFmpeg with systemd
Run the encoder as a systemd service rather than relying on a terminal session. Configure the service for the correct media and secret handling, and use an appropriate failure-restart policy. The systemd documentation recommends
Restart=on-failurefor long-running services. Ubuntu documents service overrides and status checks; after starting the service, inspect it withsystemctl statusand review its logs when it fails.A service restart only addresses process failure. Keep checking Live Control Room as well, because a restarted process does not establish that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.

Protect story rights and set the audience correctly
Clear every part of the production
Confirm rights for the story text, narration, music, sound effects, translations, and artwork. A story’s traditional or public-domain status does not automatically establish that a particular edition, translation, recording, or illustration is free to use. YouTube lists an active copyright strike and a match to another copyrighted live broadcast among reasons livestreaming may be restricted.
Decide whether the content is Made for Kids
Set the audience designation based on the actual content and intended audience; the phrase “bedtime stories” alone does not determine it. For streams designated Made for Kids, YouTube says live chat and chat replay, comments on live archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications for upcoming streams are disabled. Personalized ads are disabled on live streams and premieres, though contextual ads may be shown. YouTube’s live-stream restrictions also say live-stream advertiser-friendly guidelines and paid product placement and endorsement restrictions apply, so do not assume monetization.
Troubleshoot common failures

Costs and practical limits
The VPS method has two cost and capacity questions: the hosting provider’s charge and whether its network and compute resources can sustain the chosen encode. Current India hosting prices and provider quality are not established here. Compare providers against your actual media, output settings, storage needs, and upload capacity rather than assuming a particular server size will work.
There is no evidence here for a guaranteed uninterrupted run. Network faults, YouTube-side problems, and process failures are different failure modes; systemd helps with process restarts, while YouTube Live Control Room is needed to assess stream health.
