You can run a continuous kids’ animation stream from a Windows mini PC by sending a permitted video-and-audio feed from an encoder such as OBS to YouTube Live. The mini PC, encoder, power and internet connection must all keep working, so “24/7” is an operating goal—not a guarantee. Start with YouTube eligibility and broadcast rights, then choose settings the PC and connection can sustain, test the complete setup, and plan how someone will monitor and recover it.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. YouTube supports streaming through an encoder.
- A Windows mini PC capable of sustaining your chosen resolution, frame rate, encoder, overlays and any local recording. YouTube and OBS do not establish a universal minimum PC specification for a continuous stream.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream bitrate plus headroom.
- Animation, characters, music and other material you have permission to broadcast in a continuous live stream, in the territories you intend to serve and with any monetization you plan.
- An encoder, such as OBS, configured to send the feed to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key.
Owning a DVD or digital copy, or finding a video online, does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Keep copies of licenses or other documentation that cover the intended use.
Choose a workload your mini PC can sustain
Set the resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate according to the animation’s visual needs, the mini PC’s sustained encoding capability and your available upload bandwidth. Higher resolutions and more demanding encoding settings require more from the computer and connection. The published YouTube bitrate figure below is a platform recommendation, not a guarantee that a particular mini PC can encode reliably.

YouTube lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS streaming, recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, and recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection. For a straightforward starting point, OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help establish basic settings; then review the output settings against YouTube’s recommendations and test them. Do not assume that a setting is suitable just because it is available in the encoder.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Confirm eligibility. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. If live streaming is not enabled, resolve that before configuring OBS.
- Prepare cleared media. Assemble the animation and audio you are licensed to broadcast. Check the license for continuous live streaming, territories and any intended monetization.
- Install and configure an encoder. In OBS, use the Auto-Configuration Wizard for a starting configuration, then select an output resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate that the PC and network can sustain. Use constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval as YouTube recommends.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Enter the stream’s title and other metadata, and set its audience accurately. If it is made for kids, designate it accordingly.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or show it on screen. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Start a test and check the preview. Use the Live Control Room preview and stream health to check picture, sound and connection before relying on the setup. Test with representative motion and audio rather than a static or silent sample.
- Confirm the operating routine. Decide who will check the stream, how they will learn that it has stopped, and how they will restart the encoder or switch to a tested backup. Test any backup encoder or connection instead of assuming it will work.
Keep the connection and PC stable
YouTube says the total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving about 20% upload headroom beyond the stream. Shared connections can leave less bandwidth available than the connection’s headline speed suggests. OBS identifies an increasing dropped-frame counter and a yellow or red connection indicator as signs of an unstable connection or insufficient capacity for the configured bitrate.
- If connection instability or dropped frames appear, reduce the bitrate or resolution and test again. This can help when the connection is the bottleneck, but it cannot guarantee a stable stream.
- Check that the mini PC stays within its sustained operating capability with the chosen encoding workload, overlays and local recording, if enabled. Consider cooling, network connectivity, warranty and ease of remote restart when choosing a model.
- A wired Ethernet connection and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) may be useful resilience measures for a fixed installation. Neither guarantees continuity.
- Plan for interruptions from reboots, software updates, encoder failures, power problems, internet outages or YouTube restrictions. A person needs a practical way to notice and respond.
Plan for stream archives and interruptions
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous channel therefore needs an archive plan: consider how stream segments will be started and ended, whether replays should remain available, and how archive storage and access will be managed. Check the resulting behavior during a test rather than assuming one broadcast will produce an indefinitely continuous replay.

YouTube describes testing encoder failover. If you rely on a backup, test it in advance and document how to switch over; a second encoder or connection is not useful if no one can activate it when needed. Neither YouTube nor OBS promises uninterrupted operation.
Set the audience correctly and understand kids’ stream limits
If the animation is made for kids, set the audience designation accurately in the broadcast settings. YouTube’s made-for-kids restrictions disable live chat, live chat replay, comments on stream archives and upcoming streams, and reminders. Personalized advertising is disabled, though contextual advertising may still appear. Do not plan the channel around live chat interaction or personalized-ad monetization.
