Best Export Settings for a Kannada News Replay on YouTube: Upload vs. Live

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose settings based on how the replay reaches YouTube: upload a finished file, or send it as a live broadcast. For an ordinary SDR upload, use progressive MP4 with H.264, BT.709 color, AAC-LC audio at 48 kHz, and the recording’s original frame rate. At 1080p, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 24/25/30 fps or 12 Mbps for 48/50/60 fps. Those are upload recommendations—not live encoder targets. A live rebroadcast uses different settings, including CBR and a two-second keyframe interval.

First choose: upload a replay or rebroadcast it live?

An uploaded replay is a finished video file processed by YouTube after upload. A live rebroadcast is an incoming stream sent to YouTube Live, even if its content was recorded earlier. The distinction matters: upload guidance recommends variable bitrate (VBR), while live guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and the bitrate figures differ.

Setting Finished replay uploaded as a video Replay sent through YouTube Live
Delivery Upload a video file Send a live stream; YouTube recommends RTMPS
Video codec H.264 in MP4 is a practical SDR choice H.264 is broadly supported; YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1
Scan Progressive; deinterlace interlaced material first Progressive is recommended
Frame rate Match the recording Use the source frame rate and a supported rate up to 60 fps
Rate control VBR; YouTube does not require a bitrate limit CBR
Keyframes Closed GOP; GOP length equal to half the frame rate Two-second interval recommended; do not exceed four seconds
Audio AAC-LC at 48 kHz is a suitable choice AAC or MP3; YouTube lists 44.1 kHz stereo and 128 kbps stereo as recommended advanced settings
SDR color BT.709 Rec.709, 8-bit SDR

Kannada does not require a special codec or bitrate. Source quality, frame rate, graphics, and the reliability of the upload connection determine the useful settings.

Recommended settings for an uploaded replay

Video

  • Container and codec: MP4 with H.264 video is a suitable starting point for SDR.
  • Scan and frame rate: Export progressive video and preserve the frame rate at which the program was recorded. YouTube says content should be encoded and uploaded in the same frame rate it was recorded. If the source is interlaced, deinterlace it; YouTube gives 1080i60 to 1080p30 as an example.
  • Rate control: Use VBR. Choose the bitrate from YouTube’s upload recommendations for the resolution and frame rate, rather than applying a live-stream target.
  • Keyframes: Use a closed GOP with GOP length equal to half the frame rate.
  • Color and shape: For SDR, use BT.709. Keep a 16:9 program within its 16:9 frame; YouTube’s standard computer aspect ratio is 16:9, and the player adapts other aspect ratios.

Audio and language graphics

AAC-LC at 48 kHz is a suitable audio setting. Encoding settings cannot verify whether Kannada fonts and glyphs render correctly, so inspect an exported sample for legible ticker text, subtitles, names, and diacritics. Listen for clean, stable speech and check that inserted clips do not cause abrupt level changes.

Settings for a replay rebroadcast through YouTube Live

Configure the encoder

  • Protocol: Send the stream over RTMPS where available.
  • Video: Use H.264, progressive scan, and the source frame rate at a supported rate up to 60 fps. For SDR, use Rec.709, 8-bit color.
  • Rate control: Set CBR.
  • Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
  • Audio: AAC or MP3 is supported. YouTube lists 44.1 kHz stereo and 128 kbps stereo as recommended advanced settings.

YouTube automatically transcodes an incoming live stream into viewing formats for different devices and networks. That does not make an unstable upload connection reliable: test the stream and watch the health indicator.

Live H.264 bitrate examples

YouTube’s English live encoder guidance lists these recommended H.264 ingest rates. They are live targets, not upload-file recommendations, and YouTube may update the table; check its current guidance when configuring an encoder.

Prepare and monitor a news replay

Before publishing or going live

  1. Confirm whether the job is a file upload or a live ingest, then select the corresponding settings above.
  2. Export a short representative sample and inspect Kannada text, ticker edges, subtitles, names, motion, and audio before encoding the full program.
  3. For a scheduled live broadcast, run an unlisted or private test with representative audio, movement, graphics, and inserted clips.
  4. Test sustained upload capacity and choose the highest resolution and bitrate the connection can carry reliably. A larger target is not useful if it causes buffering or dropped frames.
  5. While live, monitor YouTube’s stream health and check audio and picture quality. See YouTube’s live settings guidance and live streaming tips.

Keep an archive

YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours and warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording as a backup, confirm that the file is growing during the broadcast, and check the saved recording before deleting source material. For long programs, size storage to the show’s duration and recording bitrate; an external drive is one possible place to keep the backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Common setting problems and fixes

  • Upload looks soft or blocky: Confirm that you used the upload bitrate row for the exact resolution and frame rate. Check the source file too; export settings cannot restore detail absent from the recording.
  • Live stream buffers or drops frames: Reduce the live resolution or bitrate to a level the connection can sustain, then test again. Do not use the VBR upload targets as live settings.
  • Interlaced footage shows comb-like edges: Deinterlace the source to progressive before upload; do not simply label interlaced frames as progressive.
  • Kन्नada ticker or names appear wrong: Check the exported sample and correct the font or text-rendering issue in the editing project. A codec setting cannot repair incorrectly rendered source graphics.
  • Live archive is missing or incomplete: Check the local backup first. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so do not rely on its automatic archive as the only copy.

Or let it run in the cloud
