Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf YouTube audio starts aligned but gradually slips out of sync during a long playlist, first determine whether the problem follows one video or your playback setup. Reload once, then test the same point on another browser or device. If the mismatch repeats at the same timestamp across devices, the upload is the likely problem; if it changes or disappears, troubleshoot the player, device, and connection.
There is no documented universal fix for progressive audio/video drift during extended YouTube playback. The steps below isolate the cause without treating ordinary live-stream delay as an audio-sync fault.
First distinguish sync drift from live-stream delay
Audio/video sync drift means the sound and picture no longer match each other in the player. Live latency is different: it is the time between an event being captured and reaching you. A live stream can be far behind the event while its sound and picture remain synchronized.
The workflow below is for viewer-side drift while watching a playlist. If you are watching a live event and are simply behind what is happening, see YouTube’s explanation of live-stream latency.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Identify the pattern before changing settings
Pause and resume, or reload the video once, and check whether sync returns temporarily. Note whether the mismatch is present from the start or grows over time, whether audio leads or trails, and whether it affects one video or every video. These are diagnostic checks, not guaranteed cures.
- One video, same timestamp: test that upload elsewhere; the source may be out of sync.
- Several videos, one browser or device: focus on that browser, app, device, or playback path.
- Playback also buffers or stutters: test the connection and playback quality.
- Live event but picture and sound match: that is latency, not sync drift.
Work through viewer-side fixes
1. Restart and update the playback setup
- Close and reopen the YouTube app or browser. If the issue remains, restart the device.
- Install available updates for the browser, YouTube app, and device software.
- On desktop, close unused tabs and temporarily disable browser extensions. To check whether an extension is involved, test in an incognito window with extensions disabled; YouTube includes extension checks in its video troubleshooting guidance.
These are YouTube’s general playback troubleshooting steps. They may help isolate a local problem, but YouTube does not identify them as a guaranteed fix for progressive sync drift.

2. Compare another browser, device, or connection
Play the same video and seek to the same point in another supported browser or on another device. If practical, try another network connection as well. Change one variable at a time and note whether drift returns, begins at a different point, or disappears. A problem limited to one playback setup points toward that setup; a mismatch that follows the upload points toward the source.
3. Check buffering and playback quality
If the video is also buffering or stuttering, try a lower playback quality and compare another connection. YouTube’s approximate sustained-speed recommendations for playback are shown below; they describe resolution recommendations, not a guarantee against audio drift.

| Playback resolution | Approximate recommended sustained speed |
|---|---|
| 4K | 20 Mbps |
| 1080p | 5 Mbps |
| 720p | 2.5 Mbps |
| 480p | 1.1 Mbps |
| 360p | 0.7 Mbps |
These figures come from YouTube Help’s playback-speed guidance; the page does not state a publication year. You can also open Stats for Nerds in the player to inspect playback information. A connection can affect smooth playback, but meeting a listed speed does not rule out sync drift.
4. Treat hardware acceleration as a narrow diagnostic test
If the issue occurs in one desktop browser, compare another browser first. For a rendering symptom such as a green picture with audible sound, YouTube’s guidance suggests turning off hardware acceleration in Chrome and updating graphics drivers. That guidance addresses the green-screen symptom, not progressive sync drift. You may try toggling hardware acceleration off and back on as a reversible isolation test, and restore it if playback gets worse; it is not a universal sync remedy. See YouTube’s video playback troubleshooting steps.

Check whether the uploaded video is out of sync
Play the same upload at the same timestamp on a different browser or device. If the same audio/picture mismatch recurs at that point across playback setups, a viewer-side adjustment is unlikely to correct the underlying file. Send the uploader the video link and timestamp, or use another upload if available.
YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance says, “Make sure the durations of your audio and video tracks are the same,” and recommends correcting the tracks in editing software before uploading. See YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance.

If the problem is a live broadcast
For a live stream, first ask whether the event is merely delayed or whether sound and picture are misaligned. Viewers generally cannot change the creator’s encoder latency setting. YouTube notes that lower latency leaves the player with less read-ahead buffer, which can increase buffering; network congestion can delay a live stream even when the connection can sustain its average bitrate. The creator can test with representative audio and motion, check stream health, and monitor audio and video quality. Details are in YouTube’s live-latency guidance and live encoder settings and troubleshooting.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your question is about keeping a pre-recorded YouTube playlist live around the clock—not fixing sync on a playlist you are watching—StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. StreamNeo sends the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month.
