Sometimes. Canceling a stock-footage subscription does not necessarily cancel a license already granted for a video, but the answer depends on the provider, plan, license tier, when the clip was licensed or registered, and how your YouTube stream will be used. A downloaded file alone may not prove you have a continuing license. Check the terms for the exact asset and plan before streaming it.
What to check before using the clip
- Identify the exact provider and plan. Standard, Unlimited, and Unmetered plans can have different rules. Do not assume that a policy for one plan applies to another.
- Confirm a license was granted for this use. Check the asset’s license history, receipt, certificate, or project registration. A local download is not necessarily the same as a valid license.
- Check YouTube and audience permissions. Read the license tier’s rules for web or online-video distribution and any audience cap. A license that allows some YouTube use may not cover every channel size or distribution.
- Establish when the production was published or registered. Continuing to show a previously published production may be treated differently from using the same clip in a new stream or newly published version.
- Review asset-specific restrictions. Editorial-only footage and other restricted assets may have additional limits, including use and attribution requirements.
- Save the evidence. Keep the asset ID, invoice, license record, registration, and a copy of the terms version that applied when the license was granted.
What the named providers say
These are provider-specific examples, not a universal rule for stock footage. The terms applicable to your particular asset and plan control.
| Provider or plan | After cancellation | YouTube or distribution check |
|---|---|---|
| Shutterstock video with a valid license | Shutterstock says validly licensed videos may continue to be used after a plan ends; its cancellation guidance describes those rights as perpetual. | The Standard Video License permits web use on YouTube but states a 500,000 audience limit for that use. The Enhanced Video License describes broader web and online-video distribution. Verify the tier attached to the clip and the applicable audience limit. Shutterstock cancellation guidance; Shutterstock video-license guidance |
| Shutterstock Unlimited | Its Fair Usage Policy says content may only be used during the active subscription term and must be registered for each use. It also prohibits stockpiling downloads for use after cancellation. | Do not apply the standard-license cancellation guidance to Unlimited without checking the Unlimited policy and whether the particular use was registered in time. Shutterstock Unlimited Fair Usage Policy |
| Adobe Stock | Adobe’s Stock Additional Terms generally preserve perpetual licenses after termination, but state an exception for Unmetered or Unlimited Plans. Unused subscription credits or standard assets are forfeited when the subscription ends. | Confirm the plan, license type, asset, and terms version that applied when the license was granted. Social-media use remains subject to the Adobe license scope and the platform’s agreement. Adobe Stock terms |
| Epidemic Sound (music, not footage) | Epidemic Sound says music in content published while a subscription was active remains cleared to monetize permanently; new content published after expiry can be monetized by Epidemic Sound. | This is a music policy, not a stock-footage license. Check music and visuals separately. Epidemic Sound cancellation guidance |
Shutterstock’s YouTube audience limit
Shutterstock’s video-license guidance, dated August 19, 2025, states that Standard Video License web use—including YouTube—has an audience-size limit of 500,000. Its Enhanced Video License describes unlimited web and online-video distribution. That figure is specific to Shutterstock’s stated Standard Video License permission; it is not a general YouTube limit or a rule for other providers. Check the license attached to your clip and whether the stream’s audience and distribution fit it. Read Shutterstock’s video-license guidance.
Keep footage rights separate from music rights
A 24/7 stream can contain stock video, music, or both, and each may be governed by a different license. Epidemic Sound’s cancellation guidance is specifically about its music: it says content published while subscribed remains cleared to monetize permanently, while new post-expiry content can be monetized by Epidemic Sound. That does not establish permission to keep using stock footage after cancellation. See Epidemic Sound’s policy.

What a license cannot guarantee about YouTube
A provider’s license describes what that provider permits; it does not establish how YouTube will handle a particular copyright or Content ID claim. The outcome for a specific stream can depend on the provider, plan, asset, timing, audience, territory, and contract terms. No general answer can determine the rights for a clip without those details.
