Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThere is no documented universal YouTube cutoff that ends a rain livestream after several hours. A common cause to investigate is a break in the video sent by your encoder: if broadcast auto-stop is enabled, YouTube says it ends the broadcast around a minute after transmission stops. Check the stream’s health messages and timestamps, your encoder logs, and the broadcast’s auto-stop setting before settling on a cause.
First, distinguish a stream ending from a replay going missing
YouTube’s 12-hour guidance concerns archiving, not a stated live-session timer. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That does not establish that YouTube terminates a live broadcast at 12 hours—or after any other fixed number of hours. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
If the live event stopped, troubleshoot the transmission and broadcast status. If it ran but there is no replay, consider the archive guidance separately.
Why a rain livestream may end
The encoder stopped sending video
A stream can end if the encoder or another video source stops transmitting, whether because it was stopped, disconnected, or otherwise lost its connection. YouTube’s API documentation defines a stream status of active as YouTube’s servers receiving data from the encoder. A local encoder that appears to be running is not, by itself, proof that YouTube is receiving its output. Google for Developers: Life of a Broadcast

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Auto-stop ended the broadcast after transmission stopped
If the broadcast’s enableAutoStop setting is true, YouTube says it will automatically end the broadcast around a minute after video stops arriving on the bound live stream. The API guide also describes enableAutoStart, which can start a broadcast when video transmission begins; that is a separate setting from auto-stop. Google for Developers: Life of a Broadcast
A stream error or account restriction needs checking
YouTube’s error guidance includes daily live-stream limits and incorrect stream format among possible errors. Its general live-streaming guidance also says content may be removed or live access restricted for policy reasons. These are possibilities to check in the channel and Studio, not evidence that any particular one caused your rain stream to stop. How to diagnose the stop
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Check the stream health indicator and read any messages around the time the event ended. YouTube’s error guidance says errors appear next to the Health Indicator and include timestamps. Record the message and time rather than guessing from the stream’s duration. YouTube Help: Fix live stream errors
- Compare that time with the encoder or source logs. Look for an encoder stop, connection loss, or a period when the encoder reported output but YouTube stopped receiving data. In the API workflow,
status.streamStatusequal toactiveindicates that YouTube’s servers are receiving data. Google for Developers: Life of a Broadcast - Review the event’s auto-stop setting. If you manage broadcasts through the API, check
contentDetails.enableAutoStop. For a Studio-managed broadcast, review its corresponding stream settings. If auto-stop is enabled, a transmission gap can be followed by the broadcast ending around a minute later. Google for Developers: Life of a Broadcast - Look for a YouTube account or policy notice. Check Studio and channel notifications for a restriction or removal notice. Do not infer enforcement simply because an ambient stream ended. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
- Check replay availability separately. If the live event ran longer than 12 hours but no archive appeared, apply YouTube’s archive guidance; do not treat the missing replay as proof the live broadcast was stopped by a 12-hour timer. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
How to interpret what you find
- YouTube stopped receiving data, then the broadcast ended: investigate the encoder, source, and connection at the matching timestamp. If auto-stop was enabled, it may explain why the broadcast ended shortly after the data gap.
- The encoder appears to have continued, but Studio reports an error: use Studio’s timestamped health message to investigate a format issue or other reported error. The local encoder display alone does not establish that YouTube was receiving the stream.
- The event remained live, but no replay is available: check the archive guidance, particularly for a stream exceeding 12 hours.
- Studio shows an account or policy notice: follow the notice for that channel rather than assuming the stream ended because it featured rain ambience.
The title and duration alone cannot identify which explanation applies. A reliable diagnosis requires the stream URL or event details, the Studio message and timestamp, the broadcast configuration, and the encoder or source log.
