Use HandBrake’s queue to batch-compress Hindi MP4 files on a Windows PC: choose an MP4 preset, verify the Hindi audio or subtitle tracks, add the files to the queue, and encode. Start with H.264 MP4 if playback compatibility matters most, and test one representative output before processing the whole batch. Keep compression settings separate from OBS’s live-stream settings; they solve different problems.
Before you batch-encode
Keep the originals and identify what “Hindi” means in each file
- Copy the source files or retain the originals until you have checked the finished encodes.
- Open a representative video and note its resolution, frame rate, audio tracks, and subtitle tracks.
- Check whether Hindi is spoken audio, a selectable subtitle track, or text permanently burned into the picture. A burned-in subtitle is part of the image and cannot be turned off as a separate track.
Do not assume all files have the same track layout. The same track number can refer to different languages in different files.
Choose a codec for the playback devices
HandBrake’s official presets include H.264/AAC MP4 options such as Very Fast 1080p30, as well as H.265/HEVC MP4 options. H.264 MP4 is a practical compatibility-oriented starting point. H.265 can be an option when the devices and software that will play the files support it. Neither codec promises a fixed reduction in file size: results depend on the source and quality settings. Check HandBrake’s official presets documentation before choosing a preset.
Choose a preset whose resolution and frame rate do not exceed what you need. A preset is a starting point, not proof that its assumptions match every source. For example, a 1080p30 preset is not a like-for-like choice for a source whose intended output needs a higher frame rate.

Batch-compress the files with HandBrake
- Open a representative file. In HandBrake, load one video and inspect its dimensions, frame rate, audio, and subtitle tracks. Confirm which Hindi audio or subtitle track you want to preserve.
- Select an MP4 preset. Choose an H.264 MP4 preset for broad compatibility, or an H.265/HEVC MP4 preset if your playback environment supports it. Check the output format and the resolution and frame-rate limits before proceeding.
- Review audio and subtitles. In the audio and subtitle controls, confirm the intended Hindi track is included and that unwanted tracks are not being selected by mistake. If you use HandBrake’s command-line interface, its language-selection options can select tracks by language; inspect files with differing track layouts rather than relying on a fixed track index. - Set the destination and filename. Choose an output folder with enough free space and a naming pattern that will not overwrite the source files.
- Add the file or files to the queue. Apply the intended settings, add the jobs, then review the queue and destination names before starting. If you need a repeatable command-line workflow, HandBrake’s CLI can import a queue file created in the GUI; consult the CLI reference for the queue-import syntax supported by your installed version.
- Run a small test first. Encode one representative file and play the result. Check that playback works, audio stays in sync, and the intended Hindi audio or subtitle is present and usable.
- Process the rest of the batch. Once the test passes, queue the remaining files with the same settings. For files with different resolutions, frame rates, or track layouts, inspect representative outputs from each type rather than assuming one test covers every source.
HandBrake documents the available preset behavior, but the cited documentation does not establish a guaranteed file-size saving or quality score for your files. Compare the encoded outputs with their originals before deleting anything.
Keep file compression settings separate from OBS settings
HandBrake settings govern transcoding files. OBS settings govern recording or sending a live stream. Reusing OBS’s recording recommendations as HandBrake batch settings confuses two different jobs.

For OBS recording, the OBS Project’s Advanced Recording Settings guide lists NVENC guidance including Constant QP 16–23, keyframe interval 2, preset P5, High Quality tuning, two-pass quarter-resolution mode, High profile, Look-ahead off, adaptive quantization on, and two B-frames. The guide says lower CQ values produce higher quality and larger files. These are OBS recording encoder recommendations, not universal HandBrake compression settings.

Optional: use HandBrake NVENC hardware encoding
Hardware encoding is optional; this workflow does not require a supported NVIDIA GPU. HandBrake’s NVENC documentation specifies these supported configurations for Windows:
- GeForce RTX Turing (2060 or later), Ampere (3060 or later), Ada Lovelace (4060 or later), or newer.
- NVIDIA driver 610.0 or later.
- Windows 10 or later.
HandBrake notes that NVENC may work on older configurations, but they are not officially supported. Check its NVENC documentation for the current requirements. NVENC does not remove all CPU work: decoding, filters, audio encoding, subtitle handling, synchronization, and muxing can still use the CPU, so high CPU usage during a hardware encode is possible.

Troubleshooting batch jobs
- The output has the wrong Hindi track. Reopen the source and identify the intended audio or subtitle track. Select by language where appropriate, but verify files with different track layouts individually.
- Hindi subtitles are missing. Check whether they are a selectable subtitle track and whether that track is enabled in the output. If the text is burned into the image, it is already part of the picture rather than a separate subtitle track.
- The output looks or plays differently than expected. Confirm the chosen preset’s resolution and frame-rate assumptions against the source and intended use. Test another representative file before continuing the batch.
- File-size reduction is smaller than expected. There is no guaranteed compression ratio. Results depend on the input and quality settings; compare a short test encode before choosing settings for the library.
- CPU usage remains high during NVENC encoding. That can be expected because HandBrake still uses the CPU for several parts of the workflow. Confirm GPU, driver, and Windows support if NVENC itself is unavailable.
- A queued file would overwrite a source or another output. Stop before encoding and review each destination path and filename in the queue.
