Yes, a 24/7 YouTube livestream can contribute to YPP watch hours, but only if it meets YouTube’s conditions. YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to video on demand (VOD). Keep the stream public, retain its VOD, and check the qualified public watch hours shown in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s published eligibility rules do not state a separate exception for streams running 24 hours or longer.
When livestream watch hours can count
YouTube counts qualified public watch hours from eligible long-form videos toward the watch-hour route to YPP. For livestreams, YouTube specifically excludes hours from streams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. A stream’s being live for a long time does not, by itself, establish that its hours qualify.
For a 24/7 broadcast, keep the stream public and make sure its archive is retained and converted to VOD. Then verify the qualified public watch-hour total in YouTube Studio’s Earn area. YouTube’s eligibility page does not specify special treatment for a broadcast lasting 24 hours or more, so the figure in Studio is the useful account-specific check. YouTube’s YPP eligibility requirements describe the livestream exclusions.
What can prevent hours from qualifying
- The stream is unlisted: YouTube excludes unlisted livestreams from qualified watch hours.
- The stream is deleted: YouTube excludes deleted livestreams.
- The stream is not converted to VOD: YouTube excludes livestreams that are not converted to video on demand.
These are watch-hour eligibility conditions; meeting them does not guarantee that YouTube will approve a channel for YPP.

Which YPP threshold applies?
YouTube describes two levels of access. The expanded YPP can provide earlier access to fan-funding and Shopping features in eligible countries or regions. The higher threshold is the route to ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing.
| Route | Threshold described by YouTube | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded YPP, where available | 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days | Earlier access to fan-funding and Shopping features; country or region eligibility applies. YouTube’s expanded YPP overview. |
| Higher YPP threshold for ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing | 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days | Meeting the threshold is not approval; YouTube reviews the channel. YouTube’s YPP eligibility requirements. |
| Announced future entry threshold for new creators | From February 1, 2027: 1,000 subscribers and either 8,000 qualified public watch hours in 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days | This is an announced future change, not the rule in force on October 3, 2026. YouTube says existing YPP creators are not affected by this entry-threshold change. YouTube’s policy-change notice. |
The 4,000-hour route uses qualified public watch hours; watch time from Shorts in the Shorts Feed does not count toward it. Watch time from paid ad campaigns also does not count. YouTube lists these eligibility rules and exclusions.

Keeping a 24/7 stream running does not change the eligibility test
A continuous stream may be one way to build viewing time, but the relevant question is whether YouTube records the time as qualified public watch hours and whether the channel meets the other YPP requirements. Do not assume that every hour of a continuous broadcast will count: confirm that the stream remains public, its VOD is available, and Studio reflects the hours.
