First confirm that YouTube has enabled Supers for your channel and that the particular stream is eligible; OBS cannot bypass YouTube’s restrictions. Then connect YouTube to an alert provider such as StreamElements, enable its SuperChat alert, and place the overlay above your video source.
Before you set up the alert
OBS Studio does not directly provide stream alerts. As the OBS Project explains, alerts are supplied by a third-party service and displayed in OBS using a Browser Source.
Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before configuring the overlay. Super Chat and other Supers features depend on location, channel and content policies, and the settings on the specific video or stream. YouTube lists age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids videos, and YouTube Giving fundraisers among the cases where Supers are unavailable. Supers also require live chat or comments to be on. See YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility guidance for current requirements.
- Make sure Supers are available and enabled for your channel.
- Check that the looping stream is public or otherwise eligible, is not marked made for kids, and has live chat available.
- Remember that a working alert overlay cannot make an ineligible stream accept Super Chats.
Add a Super Chat alert with a Browser Source
1. Connect YouTube and configure the alert
- Sign in to StreamElements and connect the YouTube account used for the channel.
- Create or select a YouTube overlay or theme, then open its AlertBox settings.
- Leave SuperChat enabled. If you only want donation popups for Super Chats, turn off the other alert event types.

2. Add the overlay to the looping-stream scene
- Copy the overlay URL from StreamElements.
- In OBS, select the scene used for the looping video. In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Browser source.
- Paste the overlay URL into the source’s URL field.
- Set the Browser Source width and height to match the stream canvas. StreamElements uses 1920×1080 as an example; use your actual canvas dimensions if they differ.
- Place the Browser Source above the video source in the Sources list, and position or scale it so alerts appear where you want them without obscuring important content.
3. Test the composition before going live
Use the alert provider’s test option if available, and confirm the alert appears in the correct place in the OBS preview. Check that the Browser Source is visible and enabled, sits above the video source, and has the right dimensions. If it does not appear, verify the copied URL and check whether alerts are paused or muted in the provider’s settings.
Choose between standard OBS and SE.Live
You can use a provider’s overlay as a Browser Source in ordinary OBS, or follow StreamElements’ SE.Live add-on workflow. The StreamElements guide dated May 8, 2025 specifies OBS v31.x or newer for that SE.Live setup. That version requirement applies to the add-on tutorial; it is not a stated requirement for every standard OBS Browser Source configuration.

In either route, the core setup is the same: YouTube must permit Supers on the stream, and the overlay must be present in the OBS scene. Do not confuse YouTube’s separate “Overlay for breaks” feature with a Super Chat notification widget; the break overlay does not create these alerts. What to know about looping streams
Put the Browser Source in the same scene as the video that is repeating, then test the alert in the preview before starting the broadcast. The alert instructions here do not configure the video loop itself, and the cited overlay guides do not establish whether every looping-stream setup handles alerts identically. Confirm your particular scene and alert composition before relying on it live.
