You can stream a looping playlist from a Mumbai VPS to YouTube Live with FFmpeg: create a playlist, pace its files in real time, encode to a YouTube-compatible profile, and send it to the event’s RTMPS address with its stream key. The Mumbai location alone does not guarantee enough upload capacity or a stable route, so test the VPS’s actual outbound connection before relying on it.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and a live event selected in YouTube Studio.
- A Mumbai VPS whose provider confirms the region, sustained outbound capacity, and any egress limits. No specific provider or Mumbai plan capacity is established here.
- FFmpeg installed with the encoders you intend to use. The example below requires an FFmpeg build with
libx264. - Media files stored on the VPS, plus a playlist in a format FFmpeg can read.
- The event’s stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not put it in public shell history, shared logs, or screenshots.
YouTube supports encoder ingest over RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection. Prefer RTMPS when your FFmpeg build and event support it. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance
Set up the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the event.
- Open the event’s stream settings and copy the stream URL and stream key. Use the RTMPS address where supported. Reset the key if it is exposed.
- Choose the event’s privacy and latency settings. Lower latency can improve interaction but may increase buffering; select it according to the event’s needs. YouTube’s live streaming setup help
- Keep the Live Control Room open so you can check the incoming preview and stream-health messages when FFmpeg connects.
Build an FFmpeg playlist
For a straightforward sequence, create a text file such as /srv/media/playlist.ffconcat:
ffconcat version 1.0
file '/srv/media/clip-01.mp4'
file '/srv/media/clip-02.mp4'
file '/srv/media/clip-03.mp4'
These paths are examples; replace them with files that exist on your VPS. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer can join compatible files without re-encoding. That works cleanly only when their stream parameters are compatible. If codec, dimensions, frame rate, time base, or audio layout differ, normalize the files or use a filter-and-encode workflow instead of assuming stream copy will work. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation and concat filter documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a YouTube-compatible output profile
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1, recommends CBR encoding, supports up to 60 fps, and calls for a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube’s recommended figures include:
| Output | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a particular VPS can encode or deliver the stream. Match the output to your source, CPU capacity, and measured upload bandwidth. Check YouTube’s encoder settings for its full guidance.

Start a looped stream from the VPS
For a 720p30 H.264 test, YouTube recommends 6 Mbps video. This illustrative command reads the concat playlist at real-time speed, loops it, encodes stereo audio, and sends an FLV-muxed stream to the RTMPS endpoint:
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -f concat -safe 0 -i /srv/media/playlist.ffconcat
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 6M -maxrate 6M -bufsize 12M
-g 60 -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "$YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL/$YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY"
Set YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL and YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY to the values shown for your event without exposing the key in shared output. The command is a starting template, not a tested recipe; confirm that your installed FFmpeg build includes libx264 and that the URL format matches YouTube’s displayed endpoint.

-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely;-repaces file reading at real-time speed. FFmpeg documents both options in its command-line reference.-g 60gives a 60-frame GOP, about two seconds at 30 fps. At 60 fps, use-g 120for the same interval. If the playlist does not already have the target dimensions or frame rate, set output video filters or options to produce the intended format.-b:vand-maxrateset the example’s video rate; audio and protocol overhead add to the network load. The 6 Mbps figure is for video, not total traffic.
Do not use -re to throttle a genuinely live network input; FFmpeg warns that imposing a low read rate on a live source can cause packet loss. For file inputs, real-time pacing is the relevant use. FFmpeg documentation
Test bandwidth, preview, and playback
- Measure sustained outbound throughput, packet loss, and route stability from the VPS itself. A provider’s advertised download speed does not prove its upload performance or its route to YouTube.
- Leave headroom above the total configured bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom and warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. YouTube streaming tips
- Start with a private or unlisted test event. Wait for the Live Control Room preview before treating the stream as ready.
- Check that the preview has both moving video and audio, then verify playback from another device. Watch the event’s stream-health indicators while the test runs.
Plan recovery and broadcasts longer than 12 hours
FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer documents recovery behavior for certain temporary output failures, but that does not guarantee end-to-end continuity through every network failure or YouTube event behavior. Test recovery on the exact FFmpeg build and configuration you will use. If the FFmpeg process itself must restart after a failure, use a process supervisor and verify how YouTube handles reconnection to your selected event. FFmpeg FIFO muxer documentation

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a longer continuous playlist, establish and test an explicit event restart and archive plan rather than assuming an uninterrupted event will be archived automatically. YouTube encoder setup help
