Yes—if your particular NAS can run an encoder continuously at your chosen quality and keep a reliable connection to YouTube. YouTube accepts a live feed from an encoder; it does not require your video files to be publicly hosted on the NAS. But NAS capability is model- and software-specific, so check sustained encoding support before relying on one for a nonstop broadcast.
What a NAS needs to do
A 24/7 stream needs a source of lofi video and audio, an encoder that turns that material into a live feed, an outbound connection to YouTube, and a way to monitor and recover the stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the channel’s stream URL and key; its Live Streaming API likewise describes a stream as the feed delivered to YouTube. A standard encoder setup does not require you to build an API integration.
A NAS may serve as file storage, host the encoder, or do both, depending on its operating system, processor or hardware encoder, and supported software. That is a platform-specific engineering question—not a general NAS capability. Confirm the manufacturer and software documentation for the exact model, and verify that it can sustain the target format under continuous load and restart or reconnect unattended. No model-specific performance is established here.
Check these before choosing the NAS as the encoder
- Encoder availability: Can the NAS run an encoder that sends a YouTube-compatible live feed?
- Sustained capacity: Can it encode your intended resolution, frame rate and bitrate continuously, rather than only for a short test?
- Recovery: Can the encoder reconnect after a network interruption or restart after a process failure, and can you tell when it has stopped?
- Network: Is the NAS on a stable wired path with sufficient upload capacity and headroom?
- Recording space: If you want a local archive, is there room for a continuous recording as well as the source files?
If the NAS cannot encode reliably, a separate computer or hardware encoder can read files stored on the NAS and send the feed. That follows YouTube’s encoder workflow; compatibility and performance still depend on the chosen devices and software.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Configure YouTube ingest and encoder settings
For ordinary live content, YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its technical guidance specifies an RTMPS endpoint using port 443 and TLS. In the usual encoder workflow, obtain the stream URL and stream key in YouTube’s live setup, enter them in the encoder, and keep the key private. The API also lists RTMP, HLS and DASH delivery options, but a standard encoder can use the URL-and-key workflow instead of implementing the API.
Choose a compatible output
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Choose a resolution, frame rate and bitrate that the encoder can sustain and your upload connection can carry. YouTube publishes different bitrate recommendations by resolution and frame rate, so use the applicable range in its current settings guidance rather than assuming one bitrate suits every stream.

Before scheduling a nonstop broadcast, test representative audio and motion at the intended output settings. Check YouTube’s preview and stream health, and verify that sound and picture remain stable. A NAS that can serve files smoothly is not necessarily able to encode and upload them continuously.
Plan upload capacity and continuity
YouTube says total stream bitrate must stay within available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% headroom. For a primary and backup ingestion setup, it recommends capacity for both bitrates plus that headroom. A network disruption can break a stream.

- Measure the upload capacity available to the streaming device, not just the internet plan’s advertised maximum.
- Leave the recommended headroom above the stream’s total bitrate.
- Use a stable network path and monitor encoder connection status, audio and video.
- If you configure primary and backup ingestion, account for both bitrates plus headroom.
During setup, check the preview before going live, test configured failover, and monitor stream health. For a 24/7 broadcast, decide how you will notice a failure and restore the feed when the encoder, NAS or network needs attention.
Understand the archive and viewer rewind limits
YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as a guaranteed replay. If preserving the broadcast matters, record a local archive; a NAS can be a storage destination, though that does not establish that it can also encode the stream.

DVR is separate from the creator’s local recording. Viewers may be able to pause and rewind a live stream, but YouTube says rewind can be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including streams longer than 12 hours.

Use lofi music for which you have the rights needed for live streaming and any archive you intend to keep. YouTube’s livestream terms require the creator to have necessary rights for the live content, including applicable music licensing rights. For licensed third-party music, the rights holder may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent a live interruption if the allowlisting step has not been completed.
Common setup failures and what to check
- YouTube does not receive a feed: Check that the encoder has the correct stream URL and key, is using the intended RTMPS endpoint, and is actually running.
- The encoder stops or overloads: Check the NAS manufacturer’s supported software and encoding hardware, then test sustained output at the target settings. Reduce the output demands or move encoding to a separate computer or hardware encoder if the NAS cannot sustain them.
- The stream drops intermittently: Check available upload bandwidth against total bitrate, preserve headroom, and inspect the network path for interruptions. Test any configured backup ingestion rather than assuming failover works.
- Audio or video is unhealthy: Use YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators; verify encoder settings and test with representative content before leaving the stream unattended.
- The stream is interrupted over music: Review the detected third-party content, confirm that the necessary live and archive rights are in place, and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where applicable.
- No replay appears afterward: A continuous stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use a separate local recording if preservation is important.
