To stream a prepared Bengali devotional video to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, create an encoder event in YouTube Live Control Room, copy its current RTMPS ingest URL and stream key, then send the video file to that endpoint with FFmpeg. Test the feed privately or as an unlisted stream, check the preview and stream health, and start the public event only after confirming the channel is eligible and you have the rights to rebroadcast the video and audio.
Before you begin: confirm eligibility, timing, and rights
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube’s current Help guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The minimum age to live stream is 16. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature well before the planned broadcast and check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio.
Schedule enough time to test
For an encoder event, YouTube recommends setting it up at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that time to check the Live Control Room preview, audio, picture, and stream health. An unlisted test is useful for confirming the setup without making the rehearsal a public broadcast.
Clear the exact recording for rebroadcast
A devotional subject does not make a recording copyright-free. A video may contain separately protected compositions, performances, recordings, or footage. Confirm you have permission for the specific material and retain documentation. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning, and continued use can interrupt or terminate the broadcast.

If you have a licence for third-party material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube notes that a live stream can still be interrupted when licensed material is used if the channel is not allowlisted. This is platform guidance, not a legal determination about any particular Bengali devotional work.
Create the YouTube Live event and get its RTMPS details
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule an encoder stream. Choose the event’s visibility and scheduled time deliberately; use unlisted visibility for a test when appropriate.
- Open the stream settings for the event. Copy the ingest URL and stream key currently shown in Live Control Room. YouTube may show an ordinary RTMP URL by default; select the RTMPS URL for an encrypted connection.
- Keep the key private. Treat it like a password. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, chat, or log. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before using it again.
- Keep the event open. You will need its preview and stream-health information during the rehearsal and broadcast.
Use the exact endpoint and key shown for your event. Do not rely on a URL or key copied from an old broadcast, another channel, or an example command.
Choose resolution, bitrate, and audio settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance for conventional SDR ingest lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video over RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. For SDR, it lists Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Its advanced recommendations include 44.1 kHz stereo audio and 128 kbps stereo audio.

For H.264, YouTube’s current bitrate table gives these reference points:
| Output format | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
For a Bengali devotional video, 720p30 or 1080p30 is a sensible starting point when it matches the source and your connection. That is a practical choice based on YouTube’s bitrate table, not a platform requirement. Avoid upscaling a low-resolution source just to select a larger output; choose a format the source can support cleanly and the uplink can sustain.
Leave bandwidth headroom
YouTube recommends keeping total outgoing bitrate within available upload capacity and leaving 20% headroom. Upload capacity can be lower than download speed, and other people or devices sharing the connection reduce what is available to the encoder. Test the actual uplink at the location and time you plan to stream. A connection disruption can break the broadcast.

Choose latency for the event
Lower latency is more useful when viewers need to interact in real time, but YouTube cautions that reducing latency can increase playback buffering. If the broadcast is a devotional video with no meaningful live audience interaction, the lowest latency may not be worth the extra buffering risk. DVR, when enabled, lets viewers pause and rewind.
Send a video file with FFmpeg
This is a file-to-live workflow: the video is already prepared, so a camera or microphone is not inherently needed. FFmpeg’s documented command structure is global options, input options and inputs, followed by output options and the output URL. Its protocol documentation describes RTMPS as RTMP over a secure SSL connection and documents real-time input pacing and FLV output for RTMP-style streaming.
The following is an illustrative H.264/AAC example, not a tested, guaranteed command. Confirm that your FFmpeg build supports the selected codecs and protocols, and adapt the input, output settings, RTMPS endpoint, and key to your actual file and Live Control Room event.

ffmpeg -re -i "bengali-devotional-video.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M
-pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR-RTMPS-ENDPOINT/YOUR-STREAM-KEY"
In that example, -re reads the file at approximately real-time speed rather than sending it as fast as the disk can provide it; -i names the input; the video options request H.264, a constant target bitrate of 8 Mbps, 30 fps, and a 60-frame keyframe interval (two seconds at 30 fps); the audio options request AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz; and -f flv selects the output container commonly used for RTMP-family ingest. The output URL is only a placeholder: replace it with the exact RTMPS ingest URL and key from the event.
The 8 Mbps video setting aligns with YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30. If you choose 1080p30, YouTube’s recommended H.264 figure is 14 Mbps; make sure the source, FFmpeg output configuration, and upload connection can all sustain that choice. The example does not set every color or encoder parameter for every source, and a command that works with one FFmpeg build or file may need adjustment for another.
Rehearse before going public
- Start the test or scheduled event in Live Control Room, then run FFmpeg with the event’s RTMPS URL and key.
- Wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check that the image is moving as intended, the audio is audible and synchronized, and the displayed stream health is acceptable.
- Check access from the channel or watch page and from a mobile device. If you are also recording a local archive, confirm that the archive file is growing correctly.
- When the test is satisfactory, stop the test cleanly. For the actual event, start the encoder early enough to inspect the preview before starting the public broadcast.
Monitor the event and handle common failures
Keep Live Control Room open during the broadcast. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video throughout and reviewing stream-health messages.

| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No preview or the event does not receive a feed | Wrong event endpoint or key, incorrect RTMPS selection, or an FFmpeg build without the needed protocol support | Copy the current event’s RTMPS URL and key again; check the command output and FFmpeg build capabilities; confirm the event is open in Live Control Room. |
| Buffering, dropped frames, or an unstable feed | Outgoing bitrate exceeds reliable upload capacity, the connection is fluctuating, or bandwidth is shared | Test upload capacity at the streaming location, reduce output bitrate or resolution, stop competing uploads, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. |
| Audio is silent or out of sync | Input-track issues, incompatible or incorrect audio options, or a source file with synchronization problems | Play the file locally, verify that it contains the expected audio track, inspect FFmpeg’s output, and confirm the preview audio before going public. |
| Stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder | YouTube has detected third-party material or the stream has encountered a connectivity issue | Review Live Control Room notices. For licensed third-party material, contact the rights owner about adding the channel to the Content ID allowlist; also check the uplink and encoder status. |
| The video appears to run too quickly or ends unexpectedly | The file may be sent without real-time pacing, may be shorter than the event, or may not be configured to repeat | Use real-time pacing for a file-to-live feed and check the input duration. A single-file command ends when that file ends; it does not create a continuous loop by itself. |
Looping a video and YouTube policy considerations
The illustrative command sends one input file and stops when that input reaches its end. If the event needs continuous playback, configure a playlist or a deliberate looping workflow and test it before the event; do not assume a single-file command will repeat automatically. Whichever workflow you choose, monitor the stream and keep the rights for every item in the rotation documented.
Copyright clearance and YouTube’s monetization rules are separate questions. Having permission to broadcast does not by itself guarantee monetization, and a devotional or repeatedly played format does not automatically establish compliance with YouTube’s reused-content policies. Review the current YouTube rules that apply to your channel and content rather than treating successful ingest as policy approval.
