Those IBM credentials send the broadcast to IBM—not to YouTube. To stream to YouTube alone, select YouTube in OBS and use YouTube’s own ingest settings and key.
First, choose the destination
IBM Video Streaming and YouTube are separate destinations, with separate ingest credentials. Use the IBM channel’s RTMP address and key when viewers should watch the IBM channel. Use YouTube’s service and stream key when viewers should watch a YouTube channel. An IBM stream key is not a YouTube stream key.
If you want one OBS production to appear on both services at once, that is a separate multistream setup; connecting OBS to IBM by itself does not also send the broadcast to YouTube.
Connect OBS to an IBM Video Streaming channel
You need access to the IBM Video Streaming account and the channel you intend to broadcast to, plus OBS installed on the computer producing the stream. IBM’s setup instructions recommend manual RTMP configuration for third-party encoders rather than older IBM Video Streaming or Ustream encoder login plugins. IBM’s OBS setup guide and its RTMP broadcast instructions describe the credential workflow.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Select the destination channel in IBM. In the IBM Video Streaming dashboard, choose the channel that should receive the broadcast.
- Open its encoder details. Go to Channel > Broadcast Settings, or open Broadcast Settings from the channel overview, then find Encoder Settings and select View. Labels may vary slightly across dashboard views.
- Copy the channel’s credentials. Copy its displayed RTMP address and Stream Key. Use the values shown for this channel; do not substitute another channel’s credentials.
- Set OBS to a custom destination. Open OBS and go to Settings > Stream. Choose Custom Streaming Server (the precise label can vary by OBS version), paste the IBM RTMP address into the server field, and paste the IBM stream key into the key field. Apply the settings.
- Start and verify the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check the IBM channel or its remote console for an incoming stream. The intended destination is the IBM channel selected in step one.
Can I use RTMPS with OBS?
Yes, if IBM provides a secure ingest endpoint for your channel, enter that RTMPS address as the server in OBS. IBM’s guide gives this format: rtmps://CHANNELID.ingest.video.ibm.com/ustreamVideo/CHANNELID. This is a format example, not a replacement for the endpoint in your dashboard; use the actual secure address IBM supplies for your channel. IBM’s RTMP guide covers the broadcast setup.
Where do I find the IBM RTMP URL and stream key?
They are channel-specific. In IBM Video Streaming, select the channel, open Broadcast Settings, and view Encoder Settings. Copy the RTMP address and stream key displayed there. IBM’s API documentation distinguishes an ingest URL, secure ingest URL, permanent channel key, and temporary streaming key; the temporary streaming key expires after 10 minutes, so do not mistake it for a durable credential. Consult IBM’s API documentation if you are working with API credentials.

If YouTube is the actual destination
For a YouTube-only broadcast, open Settings > Stream in OBS and choose the YouTube service rather than IBM’s custom RTMP destination. Use YouTube’s own service/ingest configuration and stream key. OBS maintains separate YouTube RTMPS and custom-server entries in its services configuration. The IBM address and key above do not configure a YouTube stream.
Can OBS send to IBM and YouTube at the same time?
Yes, but it requires a multistream workflow beyond entering one destination in OBS. IBM documents using Restream to publish to multiple destinations; its support article notes an additional cost for using IBM as a custom RTMP platform through Restream. Check Restream’s current platform support, account requirements, availability, and price before relying on that option. It is one documented route, not necessarily the only way to multistream. IBM’s Restream instructions explain its documented setup.

When comparing any multistream approach, check whether it supports both destinations, how it handles each destination’s stream key, and whether it needs additional upload bandwidth or local encoding resources. The credential flow and resource use depend on the particular method; do not assume that configuring an IBM destination automatically configures YouTube.
Protect the stream key and choose settings carefully
Keep credentials private
Treat the IBM stream key like a password. IBM warns that someone with both the RTMP URL and stream key may be able to broadcast to the channel. Don’t include a readable key in a screenshot, post, or example. If a key is exposed, use IBM’s account controls and current guidance to replace or revoke it where available. IBM’s OBS setup page explains the manual configuration approach.

Don’t guess a universal bitrate
There is no single bitrate that fits every broadcast. OBS says to set bitrate with both your available upload speed and the streaming service’s limits in mind. IBM’s available multi-quality renditions depend on encoder settings, account configuration, and stream setup. Check OBS’s streaming guidance and IBM’s current setup guidance for your encoder and account; do not treat an example bitrate as a guaranteed or universal requirement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot a connection that will not start
- OBS connects to the wrong destination: Check whether Stream is set to IBM’s custom server or YouTube’s built-in service. The selected service and the credentials must belong to the intended destination.
- IBM does not show an incoming stream: Re-select the intended IBM channel and copy its current RTMP address and key from Broadcast Settings > Encoder Settings. Check for accidental edits or extra characters in either field.
- The secure connection fails: Confirm that the RTMPS endpoint was provided for this channel and entered exactly. If it was not provided or does not work, verify the correct endpoint with IBM rather than adapting the example URL.
- A temporary key no longer works: IBM documents that its temporary streaming key expires after 10 minutes. Retrieve valid credentials from the appropriate channel settings instead of treating a temporary key as permanent.
- The broadcast fails on a managed network: IBM documents firewall requirements for broadcast traffic. Ask your network administrator to check the current IBM requirements for your corporate network; firewall rules differ by network, so a universal port prescription would be unreliable.
- Video quality or available renditions differ from expectations: Review OBS’s bitrate against actual upload capacity and the service’s limits, then check IBM account configuration and encoder settings. The available rendition options depend on those factors.
Account access and optional recording
IBM’s getting-started guide describes creating an account, selecting a plan, and accessing the platform through an IBM ID. It also describes a 30-day free trial available by contacting IBM; trial eligibility and plans can change, so check IBM’s current signup terms rather than assuming that offer applies to every account. See IBM’s getting-started guide.
