Then open the YouTube app and tap Create → Live. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
Mobile live streaming requirements
YouTube Help lists these requirements for streaming from a phone or tablet:
- At least 50 subscribers.
- A verified YouTube channel.
- No live streaming restrictions on the channel within the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming turned on for the channel. The first activation may take up to 24 hours to become available.
- A device running Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later.
These are requirements for mobile live streaming, not a universal subscriber threshold for every YouTube live-streaming method. YouTube treats mobile, webcam, and encoder streams as distinct methods. See YouTube Help: Create a live stream on mobile and YouTube live streaming tips.
Turn on live streaming and start from the YouTube app
- Check that you meet the mobile requirements. Confirm the channel has at least 50 subscribers, is verified, and has no live streaming restriction from the last 90 days. Check that your phone or tablet meets YouTube’s listed operating-system minimum.
- Enable live streaming for the channel. If this is your first time enabling it, allow up to 24 hours for the feature to become available.
- Open the YouTube app on your phone or tablet. Sign in to the channel you want to use.
- Tap Create → Live. Follow the in-app setup controls to add stream details and either start the stream or schedule it.
What to expect with 50–999 subscribers
YouTube may limit the audience for mobile live streams from channels with 50–999 subscribers, and archived streams may be set to private by default. YouTube says changes after a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers can take several weeks to be reflected.

Why is the Live option missing?
A missing Live option may reflect eligibility or activation status rather than an app fault. Public help pages cannot show the status of an individual channel, so check each requirement against the channel you are signed into.
- Fewer than 50 subscribers: Mobile live streaming does not meet YouTube’s published subscriber minimum.
- Channel not verified: Verify the channel before trying again.
- Restriction in the last 90 days: A recent live streaming restriction fails the published eligibility check.
- Live streaming has not been enabled, or was enabled less than 24 hours ago: Turn it on and allow the initial activation window to pass.
- Unsupported operating system: Check that the device runs Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later.
- Wrong channel is signed in: Confirm the app is using the channel whose eligibility you checked.
If the checks do not explain the missing option, revisit the current requirements in YouTube’s mobile live-streaming help; the public requirements alone cannot identify an account-specific cause.

Mobile app, webcam, or encoder?
The mobile app is the direct choice for a quick stream from a phone or tablet. YouTube also offers webcam and encoder methods for computer-based streaming. The 50-subscriber threshold described here applies to mobile streaming; do not assume it applies to every method. YouTube’s general live streaming guidance distinguishes these approaches.
