Scheduling a YouTube Live event creates an upcoming broadcast page; it does not make YouTube replay a playlist as the outgoing live feed. The playlist Loop control repeats playback for a viewer. To broadcast prerecorded material live, you need an encoder or another playback system that sends a feed to YouTube.
What YouTube’s playlist loop does—and does not do
YouTube’s Loop or Repeat control applies to watching a playlist: it repeats playback in the viewer interface. YouTube documents turning it on in the playlist box on computers and mobile devices, or choosing “Repeat • Playlist” on a TV or game console. That is a playback control, not a documented control for programming a scheduled broadcast’s source. YouTube’s playlist-loop instructions describe viewer playback.
A scheduled live stream is a page for an upcoming broadcast. Viewers can find it in advance and select “Notify me”; scheduling does not itself send video or audio. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow has the creator connect a live feed, start sending it, wait for a preview, and select Go live. YouTube’s live stream settings and encoder instructions describe those separate roles.
How to broadcast prerecorded material at a scheduled event
For a one-off clip or a compilation you have prepared, schedule the event and use an encoder to send that content as the live feed. YouTube’s documented sequence is:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Create the event: In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the Manage tab and schedule the stream.
- Set up the encoder: Enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in your encoder. Treat the stream key as a secret; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start sending at event time: Start the encoder and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room.
- Start the broadcast: When the preview is ready, select Go live.
- Finish cleanly: End the stream in YouTube and stop sending from the encoder.
This broadcasts the content supplied by your encoder; it does not select or loop a YouTube playlist URL through the scheduled-event settings. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Archiving is a recording of the broadcast, not a way to repeat the outgoing feed. See YouTube’s encoder workflow.
What about continuous or recurring playback?
If you need a recurring broadcast, check that the chosen encoder or playback system can play the assets continuously and can restart or reconnect as you expect. Test the full workflow—including what viewers see after an asset ends or a connection drops—before relying on it for an event. YouTube’s cited documentation does not establish that a standard playlist URL can be imported and looped by a scheduled stream.

Standalone hardware example
YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as a hardware encoder and describes optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling and streaming prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. That is a specific hardware option; YouTube’s page does not establish that PlayToStream accepts a YouTube playlist URL or repeats playlist items. Verify those capabilities in the device’s current documentation before buying or planning around them. YouTube’s encoder guide and hardware listings provide the cited details.
Features that can be mistaken for looping
- Scheduled event page: Lets viewers see the upcoming stream and opt for a reminder; it does not provide the broadcast feed.
- DVR: Lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume during a stream. It changes an individual viewer’s playback position, not the source being broadcast.
- Automatic archive: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. An archive is not an automatically recurring live stream.
- Trailer: YouTube’s live settings allow a trailer of 15 seconds to 3 minutes for eligible scheduled streams. The documented eligibility threshold is more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. A trailer is separate from the live program and does not loop it. See the live stream settings.
Common problems and what to check
- The event page exists, but no video appears: Scheduling alone does not send a feed. Start the encoder, confirm it is using the event’s server URL and stream key, then wait for the Live Control Room preview.
- The playlist loops on your device but viewers do not see a live broadcast: The viewer’s Loop control affects local playlist playback. Send the content through an encoder or playback system configured for YouTube Live instead.
- The encoder preview never appears: Check that the encoder is sending to the scheduled event’s URL and key and that it has actually started output. Follow the encoder’s own current setup guidance; YouTube’s workflow requires a preview before you select Go live.
- A prerecorded stream stops when a clip ends or a connection drops: Confirm the playback system’s repeat and reconnection behavior, and test it with the same assets and setup. The cited YouTube pages do not promise automatic looping or recovery for third-party encoders.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded YouTube broadcast that needs to keep running without a computer at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps the uploaded material streaming with your computer off, supports any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start your StreamNeo free day.
