To keep a YouTube livestream running around the clock with Muvi Live, first enable livestreaming on your YouTube channel, then create and start a Muvi Live stream, connect an encoder using the stream server URL and key, and verify the feed in YouTube before making it public. One important detail: Muvi documents encoder ingestion and separately advertises YouTube integration and simulcasting, but its public setup material does not establish the current account-level steps for routing a Muvi stream to YouTube. Confirm the route in your Muvi dashboard before configuring the encoder.
Before you start: confirm YouTube and Muvi are ready
Enable YouTube livestreaming in advance
Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature well before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Choose the route from Muvi to YouTube
Think of the setup as three separate jobs: YouTube hosts the viewer-facing live page; Muvi Live can ingest a stream and advertises social-platform integration; an encoder supplies the video and audio. Muvi’s documented encoder workflow uses a Muvi stream URL and key. Muvi also advertises YouTube integration and simulcasting, but the reviewed public instructions do not specify the exact current account-level routing steps.
Before you proceed, sign in to Muvi and check the current instructions for the route you intend to use: an encoder sending its feed to a Muvi stream with a supported output to YouTube, or a Muvi social destination/simulcast workflow. Verify where the encoder should send its feed, where the YouTube stream key belongs, and whether the intended account supports simultaneous destinations. Do not assume that the Muvi ingestion URL and YouTube ingest URL are interchangeable. Muvi’s setup documentation is available at Muvi; its social integration information describes the advertised capability, but check your dashboard for the current workflow.

Set up a Muvi Live stream with an encoder
- Create the stream in Muvi. In the Muvi dashboard, create a live stream and configure its metadata and available options in the content library. Start the stream server, then open the stream information and copy the server URL and stream key. Muvi’s documented sequence is to create and configure the stream, start its server, and then use those connection details in an encoder. Menu names can vary by account or current dashboard version; follow the labels shown in your account. See Muvi’s help center.
- Open your encoder and set up the feed. Muvi’s example uses OBS. Create or select a scene, add the source that contains your program video and audio, then open the streaming service settings. Choose a custom service and enter the Muvi server URL and stream key in the corresponding fields. Apply the settings. If you use the social-destination route instead, follow the current Muvi dashboard’s instructions rather than pasting credentials into a field intended for a different route.
- Start the Muvi server before sending the feed. Once the Muvi stream server is active and the encoder is configured for the verified route, start streaming from the encoder. Check Muvi’s stream information and the YouTube Live Control Room to confirm that the feed is arriving at the intended destination.
- Set YouTube-compatible output settings. Use YouTube’s encoder recommendations as a baseline, then choose values that match your resolution, frame rate, codec, and available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and supported audio and video codecs. For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube lists 10 Mbps as its recommended video bitrate; that is not a universal bitrate for every format. Check the current YouTube encoder settings before broadcast.
- Preview and test before going public. Check the picture, audio, stream health, YouTube watch page, and playback on a phone. Test with representative movement and sound, not just a static slate. If continuous availability matters, rehearse the recovery procedure and verify any backup encoder or network path you have actually configured.
Plan bandwidth and recovery for a continuous stream
Measure outbound upload capacity; download speed does not tell you how much video you can send reliably. YouTube recommends keeping about 20% headroom beyond the combined stream bitrate, using a reliable connection, and testing under realistic conditions. Its network guidance explains the bandwidth considerations.
- Use a stable connection and avoid sharing its upload capacity with large transfers during the broadcast.
- A wired Ethernet connection can be useful for a fixed encoder installation, but Cat 6 specifically is not a requirement established by YouTube or Muvi.
- Identify who will notice a dropped feed and what they should do: check encoder status, network connectivity, Muvi server status, and YouTube stream health, then restart the affected part of the route.
- Test the recovery sequence before launch. A backup connection or encoder only improves resilience if it is configured and tested.
You do not need a camera or capture card simply to stream existing program video. Muvi’s documented example uses OBS software encoding, and YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started. Choose capture hardware only if your actual content source requires it.

Protect the YouTube stream key
Treat the YouTube stream key like a password: it gives access to the stream and should not appear in screenshots, public tutorials, or shared documents. Enter it only in the field required by the route you have verified. If you think it has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the relevant encoder or destination. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
Check archives and ongoing costs
Do not rely on one automatic archive for a 24/7 broadcast
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous stream intended to run longer may not be captured as one automatic archive under that rule. If you need a recording or VOD, plan that separately and confirm current YouTube behavior and your recording workflow before going live. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Confirm Muvi charges before leaving a server active
Muvi’s product FAQ lists a charge of $0.50 per hour while its dedicated live streaming server is active, as shown when accessed on October 3, 2026. Check Muvi’s current subscription terms, included usage, and infrastructure charges in your account before running a server continuously; commercial terms may change. See Muvi’s product information.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show an incoming stream | The channel is not enabled for livestreaming yet, the encoder is not sending, or the feed is aimed at the wrong destination. | Confirm channel eligibility and activation, start the Muvi server, check encoder status, and re-verify whether your route sends the feed to Muvi or directly to a YouTube destination. |
| The encoder reports a connection or authentication error | A server URL or key is missing, incorrect, or entered in the wrong route’s settings. | Copy the current URL and key from the correct Muvi stream information or YouTube Live Control Room, as required by the verified route. Do not substitute one service’s ingest details for the other’s. |
| Video is unstable or stream health is poor | Upload capacity may be inadequate or inconsistent, or the chosen bitrate may exceed available bandwidth. | Check outbound capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended headroom, reduce bitrate or output demands if needed, and retest under representative conditions. |
| Viewers hear no audio or see the wrong picture | The encoder scene, source, or audio routing may not match the intended program. | Inspect the selected scene and sources, monitor audio in the encoder, then preview the actual YouTube watch page on desktop and mobile. |
| The stream stops and does not resume as expected | The encoder, network, Muvi server, or destination may have stopped; no recovery path may be configured. | Check each stage of the route and run the recovery steps you tested before launch. Do not assume an unconfigured backup will take over. |
