What “continuous” means in practice
Streamlabs Desktop is encoder software: it sends a live feed to YouTube. YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful for sharing gameplay or a screen, using external audio or video hardware, and producing advanced multi-camera broadcasts. Streamlabs confirms Desktop can stream to YouTube, subject to YouTube’s streaming requirements. The official materials reviewed do not state a Streamlabs-specific maximum session length or promise unattended 24/7 operation, so do not treat the free or paid plan as an uptime guarantee.

YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube Help says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you,” and warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube recommends keeping a local recording backup if retaining the broadcast matters. This is a YouTube archive caveat, not evidence that Streamlabs stops sending the live feed at 12 hours. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
YouTube’s DVR limit
DVR controls whether viewers can rewind a live stream. YouTube says viewers of very long broadcasts may only be able to rewind up to a limit, and DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Set up a Streamlabs YouTube broadcast
- Check YouTube eligibility. Confirm your channel meets YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before configuring the encoder. Streamlabs notes that YouTube requirements apply.

- Build the scene you need. Add gameplay, screen capture, audio, or other sources. A camera is optional; if you want to appear on camera, Streamlabs’ Desktop setup guidance explains adding one.
- Start the stream and monitor it. Verify the live feed in YouTube before leaving a long broadcast unattended. For a broadcast you need to preserve, make a local recording backup; YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured in the archive.

- You cannot start the YouTube stream: Check that the channel meets YouTube’s live-streaming requirements, then verify that Desktop is connected to the intended channel and stream destination.
- The stream is live, but the replay is missing: YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording backup when an archive is important.
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: This can be YouTube’s DVR limit on very long streams, not a Streamlabs subscription issue. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours.
- You need the broadcast to continue without a computer at home: Streamlabs Desktop is encoder software on your computer, and the reviewed materials make no 24/7 unattended uptime commitment. For uploaded-video loops, consider a cloud service instead.
