How to Stream a Pre-Recorded YouTube Live Playlist from Google Drive

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can stream videos stored in Google Drive as a scheduled YouTube Live event, but YouTube does not document a native way to choose a Drive playlist as the live input. The dependable route is to make the videos available to an encoder, play them in order as one program, and send that feed to YouTube with the event’s stream URL and key. Treat the playlist as part of your playback or production setup—not as a direct Drive-to-YouTube integration.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of your event. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
  • The video files and permission to use their video and audio in a live broadcast. A file being available in Drive does not establish that you have the rights to rebroadcast it.
  • An encoder or playback/production setup that can play the files in sequence and send a live feed to YouTube.
  • A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the complete outgoing stream.

Set up the scheduled YouTube Live event

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
  2. Open Manage and schedule a stream. Add the title, description, visibility and other event details. Scheduling gives viewers a watch page they can visit in advance and lets them set reminders. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current interface.
  3. In the event’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. A stream key is a credential: keep it private, and do not put it in a public document, video description or screenshot.
  4. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview. Check that video and audio are present before starting the live event.

Prepare the Drive videos for playback

Prefer files available locally to the encoder

Google Drive is documented as a place to store and play video files, not as a native YouTube Live playlist source. For a predictable broadcast, make a local copy of each video available to the encoder and use its playlist or playback controls to arrange the order. Google Drive supports video formats including WebM, MP4-family formats, MOV, AVI, WMV, FLV, MTS and OGG, but compatibility depends on the device and software. Check that your encoder can play each chosen file before the event. See Google Drive’s video storage and playback guidance.

If you are considering Drive playback in a browser

A video playing in the Drive web player is not proof that an encoder can use it continuously as a live source. Drive’s computer help page documents maximum playback resolution of 1920 × 1080 and notes that playback can be affected by internet speed and quality. It also says a video may begin playing while processing is still underway, before it is viewable on other devices or by shared viewers; third-party cookies must be enabled for Drive video playback.

If you nevertheless plan to play from Drive, test the actual account, sharing permissions, browser sign-in, cookie settings, buffering and the full sequence well in advance. This is a precaution based on Drive’s playback constraints, not a supported Drive-to-YouTube workflow.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Build and test the playlist

  1. Add the files to the encoder or playback application in the intended order. Confirm what happens at the end: stop, wait, or return to the first item. Do not assume that a video playlist automatically loops.
  2. Check each file’s picture, aspect ratio, audio level and duration. Verify transitions between files and whether silence or black frames appear between them.
  3. Run a private or unlisted test using the same files, encoder, network and YouTube event settings you plan to use. Preview the feed in Live Control Room.
  4. Monitor audio and video throughout the test. YouTube recommends testing streams and continuously monitoring the broadcast; see YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Check network capacity and go live

Your upload connection must carry the encoder’s entire outgoing stream. YouTube recommends keeping 20% headroom over the total stream bitrate; for example, a stream configured to send 10 Mbps calls for at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity under that guidance. Other devices and uploads on the same connection can reduce the bandwidth actually available, so test under realistic conditions. YouTube also recommends RTMPS. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips and its encoder settings guidance before choosing encoder settings.

  1. Start playback of the playlist in the encoder or production setup.
  2. Wait for the YouTube preview and verify picture, sound and event details.
  3. Start the event in YouTube Live Control Room when the feed is ready.
  4. Keep an eye on the preview and encoder status while the playlist plays; intervene if playback, audio or the connection fails.
  5. When the program is finished, end the event in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not treat that threshold as a guarantee for longer broadcasts. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.

Options for unattended or recurring streams

If you need scheduled prerecorded playback without keeping a production computer running, YouTube’s verified encoder directory lists the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder and describes optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. The directory also lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded YouTube videos. These listings do not establish direct Google Drive playlist integration for either product. Check current features, inputs, availability and pricing with the provider before choosing. See YouTube’s verified encoder directory.

For a recurring setup, compare whether a service accepts local files or Drive sources, supports a one-time schedule or continuous looping, requires a computer to stay on, offers monitoring and recovery controls, and meets your quality and network needs. If your requirement is to send an existing Drive playlist directly to YouTube, confirm that exact workflow with the provider rather than assuming the category listing guarantees it.
