GameGPU projects that a rumored PlayStation 6 CPU based on Zen 6 could deliver up to 120% more instructions per clock (IPC) than the PS5’s Zen 2 CPU. That is a model, not an official Sony or AMD specification, a measured PS6 result, or a forecast that PS6 games will run 120% faster. Sony has not confirmed the PS6’s CPU configuration in the reporting reviewed here.
What the 120% figure actually means
The figure comes from GameGPU, which reported its comparison on October 3, 2026. It is a projected PS6-versus-PS5 IPC uplift based on hardware analogues; GameGPU says direct synthetic testing on closed console systems is not possible. The article is not available for direct verification in the sources reviewed, so its detailed simulation inputs and methodology cannot be independently assessed. Is Zen 6 confirmed for PlayStation 6?
No. Sony has not confirmed the PS6 CPU’s architecture or configuration in the reviewed reporting. MuyComputer describes its Zen 6c discussion as an unconfirmed estimate and notes that specifications and final performance could change. MuyComputer’s July 2026 report
TechSpot’s 2025 coverage traced earlier alleged “Orion” specifications to a leaked AMD presentation dated 2023 and cautioned that details could change before production. That leak does not establish the final PS6 design. TechSpot’s report

The separate MuyComputer estimate of up to 50% IPC improvement for a rumored Zen 6c PS6 processor is not the same claim as GameGPU’s 120% projection. Neither is an official specification or a direct PS6 measurement.
What AMD’s published IPC figures can—and cannot—show
AMD’s public Zen architecture page publishes IPC figures through Zen 5, not Zen 6. It reports roughly 15% for desktop Ryzen Zen 2 over original Zen; roughly 19% for Zen 3 over Zen 2, based on 25 workloads at a locked 4 GHz; up to 13% for Zen 4 over Zen 3; and about 16% single-threaded IPC for Zen 5 over Zen 4, using configurations and workloads described in its footnotes. AMD explicitly warns that generation-to-generation IPC uplifts “are not transitive and should not be chained, compounded, or otherwise aggregated to derive multi-generation comparisons.” Therefore, adding or multiplying the adjacent Zen figures does not verify a Zen 2-to-Zen 6 estimate. AMD’s figures also do not provide the missing Zen 6 result.

IPC means instructions completed per clock cycle under a particular workload and measurement method. It is not a direct measure of a whole processor’s speed across all tasks. Total CPU throughput also depends on clock frequency and architectural details. Game performance additionally depends on factors such as the game’s code, GPU limits, memory, power and thermal limits, and platform software.

Even a valid IPC comparison would not, by itself, show how much faster a game would run. No controlled, direct PS5-versus-PS6 benchmark is available in the cited sources. A future comparison would need to identify the exact CPU variants, workload, compiler and test method, clock conditions, and whether it measures IPC, total CPU throughput, or in-game performance.

What to take away
- “Up to 120%” is GameGPU’s modeled IPC projection, not an official Sony or AMD claim or a measured PS6 benchmark.
- The PS6’s CPU architecture and configuration remain unconfirmed in the reviewed reporting.
- AMD’s published figures stop at Zen 5 and warn against combining adjacent-generation uplifts into a multi-generation estimate.
- An IPC projection cannot be translated directly into a percentage increase in game frame rates.
