How to Start a 24/7 YouTube Radio Station

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can run a 24/7 YouTube radio station by pairing music you have the rights to use with a static or looping visual, then sending it to YouTube through an encoder or a cloud playout service. Before choosing a setup, confirm your channel can livestream and clear the music rights: YouTube can interrupt a live stream when its systems detect third-party content, even when you believe you have permission.

1. Check YouTube livestream eligibility

YouTube’s current livestreaming requirements say your channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The person livestreaming must be at least 16. YouTube lists encoder streaming as one of its supported methods, making it a practical fit for a continuous radio-style broadcast. Check your access in YouTube Studio before preparing a station: YouTube’s livestreaming requirements.

Plan a controlled test broadcast before going public. A test can confirm that the audio, visual, encoder connection, and restart process work; it cannot establish that you have the necessary music rights.

2. Clear the music rights before building the playlist

You are responsible for having the rights needed to use the content in your livestream, including applicable music licensing rights, and for meeting the legal and licensing requirements that apply where the stream is available. The licenses you need depend on the tracks, rights holders, territories, and intended use. YouTube’s terms make that responsibility explicit: YouTube Terms of Service.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Check every track’s actual permitted use

  • Use music you created and control, public-domain works whose status you have verified, or tracks for which you have permission covering this use.
  • Read the specific license terms. A “free” label, attribution, music subscription, or permission for another platform does not by itself establish that a 24/7 YouTube livestream is allowed.
  • Keep licenses and written communications from rights holders in a place you can access while operating the station.
  • YouTube recommends its Audio Library and advises creators to check the license terms for music from other sources: YouTube Audio Library and copyright-safe music.

Understand Content ID interruptions

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may interrupt or terminate the stream; an archived broadcast may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. If you have licensed third-party music, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent an automated interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright issues.

3. Choose how the station will play continuously

The core workflow is the same in each case: prepare audio and a visual feed, configure the broadcast in YouTube Studio, and keep a streaming encoder or hosted playout service connected. The options differ in who maintains the running system and how much setup control you want.

Approach What it involves What stays running Trade-off
OBS on a desktop Use OBS to send the station’s audio and visual to YouTube. An OBS community guide describes connecting OBS to YouTube and configuring a broadcast; it is community guidance, not current official platform documentation. The computer and streaming session must remain available. Graphical controls and local setup, but the station depends on that machine and its connection.
FFmpeg on a VPS Use FFmpeg on a virtual private server to combine an audio feed with a visual and send it to YouTube. A third-party 2026 setup article describes this command-line approach. The server and streaming process must remain available. Can operate without an attended desktop, but requires server and command-line setup. The cited setup article does not establish required server specifications, uptime, or total cost.
StreamNeo cloud playout Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud. StreamNeo runs the playout, so your computer does not have to stay on. Less local infrastructure to maintain; verify that a YouTube-only uploaded-video workflow fits your station.
Another hosted playout service A hosted-service article describes uploading files, assembling a playlist, connecting YouTube, and running the stream without a local PC. The provider’s service runs the playout. This is a vendor description, not an independent verification. Check current features, music-rights responsibilities, prices, and recovery terms with the provider.

The OBS approach is discussed in an OBS community guide. The VPS and hosted-playout examples are described in third-party articles: a 2026 setup article and a hosted-service article. These examples do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. The available sources do not establish numerical uptime or a comparable cost for the self-hosted approaches.

4. Set up and test the station

  1. Confirm livestream access. In YouTube Studio, check that the channel is eligible to create a livestream. Resolve any access or restriction issue before planning a public launch.
  2. Prepare rights-cleared material. Assemble the audio and visual feed you intend to use, check the permissions for the territories where the stream will be available, and retain the relevant documentation.
  3. Choose a playout method. Decide whether you will maintain OBS on a desktop, run FFmpeg on a VPS, or use hosted playout. For a hosted provider, verify its current workflow, price, recovery behavior, and support directly.
  4. Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Configure a livestream and connect the encoder or hosted service using YouTube’s stream setup. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast.
  5. Run a controlled test. Check that audio is audible and continuous, the visual appears as intended, the stream reaches YouTube, and you know how to restart the encoder or service. A test verifies operation, not licensing.
  6. Coordinate Content ID allowlisting. If the station uses licensed third-party music, ask the rights owner about allowlisting your channel and monitor YouTube Studio for copyright notices or interruptions.
  7. Launch with a recovery plan. Document who will respond to a dropped connection, how the encoder or service will be restarted, and what you will do if YouTube reports a rights issue. Specific recovery automation depends on your chosen setup; the cited materials do not establish a universal script or setting.

5. Keep the station operating responsibly

  • Check YouTube Studio for stream-health warnings, copyright notices, or interruptions while the broadcast is running.
  • Keep the rights records and the contact details for relevant licensors available to whoever operates the station.
  • Periodically verify the playlist and visual feed, and confirm that your restart procedure still works after changes to the encoder, server, playlist, or service.
  • Do not treat an uninterrupted test or a successful initial broadcast as proof that every track is cleared for the full stream or its archive.

6. Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud loops the video, so nothing has to stay on at home. It is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
