If OBS disconnects when you switch from a mobile hotspot to broadband, first set Settings → Advanced → Network → Bind to IP to Default. Then compare the two connections’ stable upload capacity, set a bitrate the weaker one can sustain, and rehearse the actual switch in an unlisted YouTube stream. A single OBS session is not guaranteed to survive a change of network path without interruption.
Why switching networks can interrupt an OBS stream
Changing from a hotspot to broadband can change your computer’s active network interface, local IP address or route to the internet. OBS may also be manually bound to an address associated with the old connection. These are plausible causes to check, not a diagnosis that applies to every disconnect.
OBS says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote stream ingest server (OBS connection troubleshooting). The stream key and server URL identify and reach YouTube’s stream destination; they do not select the computer’s network interface. A key reset is therefore not the first fix to try for a disconnect that coincides with changing connections. See YouTube’s guidance on managing live stream settings.
Fix and test the connection in order

Set OBS to use the default network interface
In OBS, open Settings → Advanced → Network. Set Bind to IP to Default, then apply the change. This is OBS’s recommended setting in its connection troubleshooting guide. If you intentionally bind OBS to a specific address for another reason, check that the address remains valid on the connection you intend to use.

Measure upload speed on both connections
Check upload capacity while connected to the hotspot and again on broadband, under conditions representative of your broadcast. Download speed alone is not a useful measure of whether an encoder can send the stream. YouTube notes that download capacity is often higher than upload capacity and recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate (YouTube streaming tips). Other devices and household traffic can reduce the upload capacity available to OBS.

Choose a bitrate the weaker connection can sustain
For a stream that might use either path, test both and choose a conservative bitrate based on the weaker reliable upload result, while leaving YouTube’s recommended headroom. OBS gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guarantee; YouTube also publishes codec- and resolution-specific ranges. For H.264, YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 30 fps, and 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for 720p at 30 fps. These are encoder guidance values, not measurements of hotspot or broadband performance in India. See OBS’s connection guidance and YouTube’s encoder settings.

Reducing bitrate may reduce picture quality, but it cannot restore a connection that has actually dropped. If neither connection can sustain the chosen settings reliably, lower the stream settings or avoid switching during the broadcast.

Try OBS congestion controls as mitigations
In Settings → Advanced → Network, OBS documents Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta). It can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, which may help reduce dropped frames at the cost of quality. OBS cautions that this does not fix the underlying network problem. Its guide also lists network optimizations and TCP pacing as Windows-only options that some users report finding helpful; treat them as tests, not guaranteed solutions. Rehearse the exact switch in an unlisted stream
Use representative movement and audio, start an unlisted test, and switch from hotspot to broadband exactly as you expect to during a real broadcast. Watch OBS’s dropped-frame counter and connection indicators, and check the YouTube Live Control Room preview, stream health and messages. YouTube recommends testing with representative content and monitoring audio and video quality (encoder settings; live streaming tips). OBS’s dropped-frame counter can help distinguish a connection problem from playback buffering experienced by a viewer.

Check software, drivers and network equipment
If the problem persists, investigate VPN interference, security software, network-prioritization or optimization utilities, outdated network drivers, unstable Wi-Fi, router or modem issues, and faulty network equipment. Test with a VPN disabled if appropriate, review network utilities, and get drivers from your computer or motherboard maker. If local checks do not resolve it, ask your ISP whether congestion or routing could be involved. These are possibilities listed in OBS’s troubleshooting guidance, not confirmed causes in your particular setup.

Plan for an interruption rather than assuming failover
A network switch in one OBS session is not the same as primary-and-backup encoder failover. YouTube describes testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable when a backup encoder has already been set up; that procedure does not mean a lone OBS session will switch networks seamlessly. The official guidance does not promise uninterrupted recovery for a hotspot-to-broadband transition. Test your own setup and, for an important event, keep a local recording or arrange a separately configured backup. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
If the broadband leg is unstable over Wi-Fi, a wired Ethernet connection to a compatible router can be worth testing; you may need an adapter if your computer lacks an Ethernet port. A cable can improve the broadband leg, but it cannot guarantee a seamless switch from hotspot to broadband. Test the complete transition rather than judging it from either connection alone.

India-specific expectations
The troubleshooting steps above are general OBS and YouTube guidance, not an India-specific network procedure. No countrywide hotspot speed, broadband reliability figure or special YouTube ingest behavior establishes what your connection will do. Results depend on your location, carrier, ISP, plan, signal, router and network load. Use measurements from your actual streaming location and test at the time and under the conditions you expect to broadcast.
