If your Wirecast YouTube stream has no sound, check the audio path in order: confirm Wirecast receives the intended input, check source and master mute/level controls, inspect track routing if you use multiple tracks, then compare a local recording with YouTube playback. A silent local monitor alone does not prove the broadcast is silent. Wirecast controls vary by release, so use the current mixer and destination settings rather than relying on labels from older guides.
1. Confirm Wirecast is receiving the audio source
Start before YouTube: if Wirecast receives no signal, changing destination settings will not restore it. Telestream says Wirecast can capture integrated line-in, microphone or microphone-jack audio, and audio playing from the computer. Its official Wirecast resources describe Windows audio interfaces including ASIO, WASAPI, and DirectShow; DirectShow supports two channels per device. On macOS, Wirecast uses AVFoundation.
- Identify the intended source: a microphone, mixer or capture device, line input, or computer playback.
- Check that it is connected and selected as the Wirecast input for the shot or source you are using.
- Watch the source meter while speaking or playing audio. If it does not move, check the device connection and the operating system’s selected input, then verify that the hardware and audio interface are supported by your Wirecast setup.
- If the expected device is missing, resolve the device or input-selection problem before troubleshooting YouTube. Operating-system permission paths depend on the system and are not specified here.
Telestream’s supported-device page describes the capability this way: “Wirecast natively has the ability to add integrated audio sources such as your PCs line-in jack, microphone or microphone jack, and even the ability to capture audio playing out of your system.”
2. Check source and stream/master mute and levels
If the input meter moves, check whether audio is silenced later in Wirecast. Inspect both the individual source’s mute and level and the overall stream or master output’s mute and level in the current mixer. Raise a level only enough to confirm signal; avoid driving the meter into clipping.

A Telestream Wirecast-for-YouTube guide from December 2012 described a “Stream Audio” control as the master for streamed audio and “Live Audio” controls for selected sources, with speaker icons used for muting. Those names and controls are historical clues, not verified labels or exact behavior for current releases. Look for the equivalent source and output controls in your version.
3. Inspect track routing if you use multiple tracks
Routing is worth checking when your production uses multiple audio tracks or custom mappings. A Wirecast 11 guide for Windows documents an Audio Track Selection field for the YouTube destination and an optional Multi-Track Input Mapper. These are version-specific reference points; they do not establish a current menu path or mean every production needs custom mapping.

- Confirm the destination is set to the track that carries your program audio.
- If you use a multi-track mapper, confirm the intended input is assigned to that output track.
- If you use a single, uncomplicated audio mix, do not add multitrack routing as a speculative fix.
4. Compare the monitor, a recording, and YouTube playback
When the source and levels look right, compare what you can actually hear at different stages: Wirecast’s local monitor, a local recording or controlled playback, and the YouTube stream. If a recording is audible but YouTube playback is silent, the fault is likely later in the output path; if both are silent, return to the source, mixer, and relevant routing checks.
Monitor silence is not conclusive by itself. Telestream’s release history records a version-specific issue in which output-device settings at 44.1 kHz or 96 kHz could cause monitor noise without affecting broadcast or recorded output. That historical note is not a general current sample-rate recommendation. Use a recording and the actual stream as evidence before changing sample-rate settings.

5. Troubleshoot by symptom

6. Gather useful details before contacting support
If the checks do not isolate the problem, record the Wirecast version, operating system, input device and connection, which meters move, whether a local recording is audible, your destination and track configuration, and what YouTube playback does.
