You can run a YouTube channel as a continuous live-TV-style stream by preparing programming, sending it through an encoder or cloud service, and monitoring the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube does not provide a special “24/7 channel” switch: this is an ongoing live-stream operation, and a single stream should not be assumed to run forever or be archived in full.
What “24/7 YouTube Live TV” means
A 24/7 channel is a continuous live broadcast associated with your existing YouTube channel. You create the program—such as a schedule of shows, a playlist of recordings, or a live production—and send it to YouTube using a stream URL and key. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports overlays and connected production hardware; it is not a turnkey linear-TV service. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
There are two basic program types: a live production assembled from cameras, microphones, and other sources, or prerecorded videos played as a live feed. A prerecorded program still needs distribution rights for every video and audio element. Uploading or looping something does not grant permission to broadcast it.
Check eligibility and rights before building the channel
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube’s computer live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days. YouTube’s general live-streaming overview also states that a person must be at least 16 to livestream. Account requirements and feature availability can change, so check YouTube’s current computer live-streaming tips before scheduling a launch.

Clear every part of the program
You are responsible for rights to the live content, including music licensing, as well as legal and regulatory obligations that apply to the territory where the stream is distributed. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place those responsibilities on the provider. Check rights for songs, recordings, clips, images, and other third-party material before including them in a live program; putting that material into a stream does not make it cleared.
Choose how to keep the program on air
Software encoder on a computer
A software encoder running on a suitable computer is a practical starting point for many productions. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required to begin, and its encoder workflow can use connected sources and overlays. The computer, encoder capacity, and network connection must suit the program you intend to send. If the computer or its connection stops, the feed may stop too, so plan how you will detect and recover from an interruption.
Dedicated hardware encoder
A dedicated hardware encoder is an option for productions that need a more substantial setup. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, but does not make one a universal requirement. Choose based on the inputs, switching, overlays, and operating arrangement your show actually needs; no particular model is established here as guaranteed to work continuously.

Choose an ingestion protocol your encoder supports
YouTube supports different ingestion workflows. Its HLS setup guidance notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video segments rather than a continuous stream. Use a protocol supported by your encoder and appropriate for the features and latency your program needs, and verify the current requirements in YouTube’s guidance.

- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Create or configure a live stream for your channel and follow the current prompts for the broadcast.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Enter both in the corresponding connection fields in your encoder, as described in YouTube’s encoder setup guide. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it in a screenshot, or share it with people who should not control the stream.
- Configure the program in your encoder. Select the video and audio sources, overlays, and output settings your production needs. The appropriate resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval, and encoder capacity depend on the program and connection. Use the current YouTube and encoder instructions for the settings supported by your chosen workflow rather than assuming one fixed configuration fits every setup.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that YouTube receives a picture and audio before making the stream public or committing to a long run. Check that the watch page is accessible in the way you intend.
- Start the broadcast and keep the encoder operating. For a computer-based setup, the computer, encoder, and required connection need to remain available while that encoder is supplying the feed.
Plan for long-run continuity and archives
A 24-hour broadcast has a specific archive risk: YouTube says a live stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. These are not guarantees that every shorter stream will be archived or every longer one lost. Read YouTube’s archive guidance and do not rely on the platform archive as the only copy of a long program.
Keep a local recording
When preserving the complete program matters, enable a local archive and verify that its file is growing during the broadcast. YouTube recommends a local archive backup in its streaming tips. Check available storage and make sure the recording arrangement can continue for the duration you plan to keep.

Decide how to divide or restart the broadcast
Plan deliberate stream segments or restarts rather than assuming one stream can safely remain open forever. Decide who will start the next segment, how the program will handle any break, and how local recordings will be checked and retained. Test the plan before relying on it for a scheduled channel.
Test and monitor the operation
A successful preview is only the start of a reliability plan. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing backup-encoder failover and checking the local archive. Its computer live-streaming tips also support checking the preview and monitoring the stream. These steps reduce avoidable surprises; they do not establish a guaranteed uptime level.
- Confirm the Live Control Room preview shows the intended video and audio.
- Check the channel and watch page from a viewer’s perspective to confirm the broadcast is accessible as intended.
- Verify the local recording is being written and has usable audio and video.
- If you have a backup encoder, test the failover behavior before depending on it.
- During operation, monitor audio and video rather than assuming that an active encoder means a healthy program.
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
The Live Control Room preview is blank or does not receive the stream
Check that the encoder is running, the server URL and stream key were copied into the correct fields, and the selected source is producing output. If the key may have been exposed, replace it through YouTube’s current stream controls and update the encoder before restarting.

The stream is live, but viewers do not see or hear the intended program
Inspect the encoder’s selected video and audio sources, then compare the result with the Live Control Room preview. Check the public watch page as a viewer would, and correct the source or access configuration before leaving the broadcast unattended.
The broadcast stops when the computer or connection fails
In a computer-encoded setup, the encoder depends on the computer and its connection remaining available. Identify which part stopped, restore it, and restart the encoder if necessary. If continuity is important, test a backup encoder and the handoff procedure in advance.
The local archive is missing or incomplete
Do not assume YouTube retained a stream that exceeded 12 hours. Check the local recording destination, available storage, and whether the recording file was growing during the program. Use a tested local archive plan for future broadcasts.

Can a 24/7 channel earn money?
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible livestream monetization features, depending on channel eligibility and settings. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, so round-the-clock availability is not a reliable revenue projection. Check YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and confirm the channel and content qualify before enabling features.
