To stream with a 3D avatar, create or obtain a compatible model, load it into avatar-tracking software, choose a webcam or other supported tracking input, then capture the animated avatar in OBS. The avatar app animates and renders your character; OBS captures it and combines it with your stream. For a straightforward start, create a VRM model in VRoid Studio and check that the tracking app supports its exact VRM version before you set up your scene.
1. Create or obtain a 3D avatar
Create one in VRoid Studio
VRoid Studio is a free option for making and customizing a character. It exports models as VRM files. Check the current requirements on the official VRoid Studio page before installing: its listed baseline is for running VRoid Studio, not for running tracking software, OBS, and a live stream together.
The published requirements include Windows 8.1, 10, or 11; an Intel Core i5 6th generation or later or AMD Ryzen 5 3rd generation or later; 8 GB RAM; Intel Iris Graphics 540 or higher; and 10 GB of free storage. The listed Mac requirements are macOS 11, 8 GB RAM, and 10 GB of storage. Treat these as software requirements, not a performance guarantee for your complete streaming setup.
Use a purchased or commissioned model
A third-party model can save creation time, but check its file format and version against your intended avatar app before buying or commissioning it. Read the creator’s terms, including whether streaming, commercial use, editing, and redistribution are allowed. VRoid Studio’s product information also cautions users to observe the licensing conditions for Pixiv and other third-party model data.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Choose software that supports your model
Do not assume that every VTuber program accepts every 3D model. Confirm the app’s supported format and version first; a model loading successfully also does not guarantee that every expression or gesture will work, since tracking depends on both the model’s rig and the application.
| Software | 3D model support | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| VSeeFace | VRM0; its official site says VRM 1.0 is not supported. | A free face- and hand-tracking program for VRM0 avatars on 64-bit Windows 8 and above. Check the official VSeeFace site for downloads and current details. |
| Warudo | VRM and Warudo’s own .warudo format. |
Its getting-started handbook accepts those character formats and can guide you through choosing a motion-capture setup. See the Warudo Getting Started handbook. |
| VTube Studio | Live2D Cubism models; it does not support VRoid/VRM models as avatars inside the app. | Use it for Live2D rather than as the sole app for a 3D VRM avatar. Its iOS tracking can optionally control a 3D model in VSeeFace, but that is a tracking bridge, not 3D model support in VTube Studio. See the VTube Studio manual. |
3. Pick a tracking input
Start with equipment you already have
A webcam can be a starter tracking input; a dedicated camera, phone, or full-body tracker is not universally required. Choose an input the avatar app supports, connect or enable it, and select it in that app’s tracking or motion-capture settings. The exact controls vary by software, so follow that application’s current onboarding and check its device permissions if the camera is not detected.

Use a phone or combine inputs if you want to
Warudo’s getting-started handbook gives one example: an iPhone app, iFacialMocap, for face tracking alongside MediaPipe through a webcam for hand tracking. That is an optional setup, not a requirement or a ranking of tracking quality. Confirm that your phone, app, and computer are compatible before relying on this route.
4. Load the model and verify movement
- Open your avatar application and import or select the model file.
- Choose the tracking input you intend to use and grant camera or device access if prompted.
- Look at the app’s preview and test basic movement: turn your head, blink, change expression, and move your hands if the setup tracks them.
- If movement is missing, confirm the correct camera or tracking source is selected and that the model format and version are supported. Check the model’s rig and the app’s supported tracking features if only some expressions or gestures respond.
Fix tracking and model issues in the avatar application before arranging the broadcast scene; OBS cannot animate a model that the avatar app has not made move.

5. Capture the avatar in OBS
Transparent Game Capture with VSeeFace
For a transparent avatar overlay, VSeeFace documents OBS Game Capture with Allow transparency enabled. Add a Game Capture source, select the VSeeFace window or application as appropriate, enable the transparency option, and check the result in the OBS preview. Arrange the avatar over your background or gameplay, then resize and position it in the scene.
VSeeFace virtual camera
VSeeFace also documents a virtual-camera option that must be enabled in its settings. Its documented virtual-camera output is 1280×720, so check that resolution against your OBS composition and intended stream layout before going live. Select the VSeeFace virtual camera as a video-capture source in OBS if you use this route.

Game Capture and virtual-camera output are alternative capture workflows; use the one that behaves correctly with your scene and desired transparency. In either case, verify the avatar’s framing and movement in the OBS preview, then make a short test recording or private/unlisted test stream before a public broadcast.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Check the stream settings and rights
Set the stream’s resolution and frame rate in OBS to what your computer, connection, and platform setup can sustain. The VSeeFace virtual camera’s documented 1280×720 output is a capture-source specification, not a requirement that every stream use that resolution. No single bitrate or keyframe value is established for every setup here; use the current YouTube guidance for your selected resolution and frame rate, and make sure your OBS output settings and connection can maintain it.

Before streaming, check that you have the rights to the avatar, music, images, and other material in the broadcast. A model being downloadable or importable does not automatically grant permission for commercial streaming or redistribution. YouTube may also apply its copyright and monetization rules to reused material; review the platform’s current policies for your use case rather than assuming that adding an avatar makes other content yours.
7. Troubleshoot common setup problems
- The model will not load: Check its file format and version against the avatar app. VSeeFace supports VRM0, not VRM 1.0; Warudo’s handbook lists VRM and
.warudo. - The avatar loads but does not move: Check the selected tracking source, camera permissions, and device connection. Test basic movement in the avatar app before troubleshooting OBS.
- Only some expressions or gestures work: Tracking depends on the model’s rig as well as the app and input. Confirm the model includes the relevant rig data and that the application supports the behavior you expect.
- The avatar has an opaque background in OBS: If using VSeeFace Game Capture, check that Allow transparency is enabled. Alternatively, test VSeeFace’s virtual-camera workflow.
- The virtual-camera image does not fit the scene: VSeeFace documents 1280×720 output. Adjust the scene composition or choose another supported capture route if that output does not suit your layout.
- The stream stutters or the computer struggles: VRoid Studio’s stated system requirements cover VRoid Studio, not simultaneous tracking, OBS, and streaming. Reduce the workload or output settings and test again; do not treat those requirements as a whole-stream performance guarantee.
Or let it run in the cloud
The setup above uses your computer to animate and capture the avatar. StreamNeo serves a different purpose: it keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, not from a camera or live avatar tracking. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
- Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on for that uploaded-video stream.
- Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start your free first day.
