To keep a YouTube channel live around the clock, you must continuously send video to YouTube using an encoder or a cloud streaming service. YouTube does not automatically turn an uploaded video into a nonstop live broadcast. For a do-it-yourself setup, enable live streaming, create a stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with YouTube’s server URL and stream key, test the preview, then start the broadcast. Plan separately for power or internet outages, monitoring, media rights, and archives.
Choose how the stream will run
A 24/7 live channel needs a source that keeps sending video and audio. Pick the operating model before creating the stream; it determines what must stay online and how you recover from an interruption.
| Option | What stays online | Best fit | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local software encoder | An always-on computer, the encoder, and a reliable internet connection | Creators who want control over playlists, overlays, and encoding settings | Power and internet resilience, restart behavior, monitoring, and the encoder’s compatibility with YouTube |
| Hardware encoder | The encoder, video source, power, and internet connection | Higher-production workflows or setups that use dedicated encoding hardware | Supported codec, resolution, frame rate, ingest protocol, scheduling, monitoring, and recovery behavior |
| StreamNeo | The cloud service handles uploaded-video playback; your computer does not need to remain on | Creators who want uploaded videos or playlists streamed continuously to YouTube from the cloud | Whether the service’s YouTube-only, prerecorded-video workflow fits your channel and media rights |
YouTube supports software and hardware encoders and also identifies cloud-based services for continuous prerecorded video. A mention of a service by YouTube is not an endorsement or evidence of its current price or uptime. Compare services on recovery, supported quality and protocols, scheduling, monitoring, storage, and total cost; confirm those details with the provider.
Check YouTube live-stream eligibility
Before configuring an encoder, confirm that the channel can go live. YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, the streamer must be at least 16, and the channel must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. For a first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the option to go live is unavailable, check eligibility and wait for activation before troubleshooting the encoder. A working encoder cannot bypass a channel-level restriction.
Create the YouTube stream and connect an encoder
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Configure a stream or schedule one using the available options. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes creating a stream with an encoder.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Enter both in the encoder’s streaming or broadcast settings. The URL identifies YouTube’s ingest server; the key links the encoder to your stream.
- Protect the key. YouTube says to treat the stream key like a password. Do not share it or expose it in a recording, screenshot, or public configuration. If someone else gets it, reset the key in Live stream settings and update the encoder with the replacement.
- Set the encoder’s output. Choose a resolution and frame rate your hardware and upload connection can sustain, then configure codec, bitrate, rate control, and keyframe interval as described below.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Wait for the incoming signal in Live Control Room. Check moving footage and audio, then start the broadcast there when the preview is correct.
- Verify the public result. Open the channel or watch page on another device and confirm that video and sound play as expected. Keep Live Control Room available to watch stream health.
YouTube’s guidance is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” See its encoder settings and bitrate recommendations for the current options.

Set bitrate, resolution, and encoder settings
Choose settings as a complete set: codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate affect one another. Do not select a bitrate by resolution alone if you use a different codec or frame rate. YouTube’s current settings table is the reference for combinations beyond the examples below.
- Protocol: YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS for encoder ingestion and recommends RTMPS for encryption. Use RTMPS when the encoder supports it.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1. Confirm that the chosen encoder and workflow support the codec you select.
- Audio codec: YouTube lists AAC or MP3.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframes: Set a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Frame rate: YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Select a frame rate your source, encoder, and connection can maintain consistently.
- Bitrate examples: For H.264, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. For other codec, resolution, and frame-rate combinations, consult the current YouTube bitrate table.
These bitrate figures describe the video stream, not all network traffic. YouTube says total stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends keeping 20% headroom. Its streaming tips explain the bandwidth guidance. Test the actual connection rather than relying only on the internet plan’s advertised maximum.

Test the feed before leaving it unattended
A setup that works for a few minutes may still fail during an overnight broadcast. Test the full path—from source to encoder to YouTube—and decide who or what will detect a stopped stream and restore it.
- Run representative content with both quiet and loud audio, scene changes, and motion. Look and listen for stutter, distortion, clipping, or missing sound.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators before starting the public broadcast.
- Confirm playback from a second device and network where possible, rather than relying only on the encoder’s local preview.
- For a local setup, check whether the computer sleeps, the encoder stops after an error, or the router reconnects in a way that interrupts the feed. Configure power settings and restart procedures deliberately.
- Decide how often the feed will be checked and what action will follow a disconnect. Do not assume that YouTube itself will restart a failed encoder.
Can I stream prerecorded videos on YouTube 24/7?
Yes, prerecorded video can be supplied continuously as a live broadcast by an encoder or cloud service, but the source must keep sending the feed. For a local software encoder, arrange a playlist or other repeatable playback workflow and test the transition between items. A cloud service can play uploaded videos or playlists without keeping a home computer online.

Use only video, music, and other assets you have rights to use for this purpose. The technical live-stream guidance does not settle whether a particular looping channel or its content qualifies for monetization. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for your situation; continuous streaming does not itself guarantee monetization, recommendations, or a particular amount of watch time.

For a local encoder, a power cut, home internet outage, computer sleep, application crash, or expired connection can stop the feed. Keep the source files available locally, prevent unintended sleep, and establish a way to notice a lost signal and restart the encoder. A hardware encoder still depends on its power, source, and network. For any cloud service, check how it detects a YouTube disconnect, whether recovery is automatic, and what you must do if the service or your account needs attention.

Monitor the Live Control Room and verify the public watch page periodically. If the broadcast stops, first determine whether the encoder is still running and whether YouTube is receiving an incoming signal; then check the network and stream key before restarting. If the key was exposed, reset it rather than continuing to use it.
Will YouTube archive a 24/7 live stream?
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not establish the archive outcome for a single broadcast that runs longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on a complete YouTube archive for a nonstop stream. If preserving the program matters, keep the original files and decide whether to record locally or divide programming into shorter events, then test the chosen workflow.

Quick Recap
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Go Live is unavailable | The channel is not eligible, a restriction applies, or first-time activation is still pending | Verify the channel, check live-stream restrictions and age requirements, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| Live Control Room shows no incoming signal | Wrong server URL or key, encoder not started, or network cannot reach YouTube | Compare the encoder’s URL and key with the current YouTube stream settings, start the encoder, and check the connection. Reset the key if it may have been exposed. |
| Video buffers, drops frames, or stream health degrades | Bitrate exceeds stable upload capacity, or the connection is inconsistent | Reduce bitrate or output quality, use the current YouTube table for the selected codec and frame rate, and preserve 20% upload headroom. |
| Audio is absent or distorted | Incorrect audio input or encoder settings, or a problem in the source | Check the selected audio source and AAC or MP3 encoder output; listen to the preview before going live. |
| The feed ends after an interruption | Local power, internet, computer sleep, or encoder failure; or a service-side interruption | Identify where signal stopped, restore that component, and confirm the preview returns before restarting the broadcast. For a cloud provider, check its recovery process. |
| No complete archive appears for a very long event | The broadcast exceeded the under-12-hour automatic archive threshold | Keep source files and use a separately tested recording or shorter-event workflow if an archive is required. |
