Yes. You can set a YouTube livestream to Unlisted so people with its link can watch, while it generally stays off your channel’s Videos tab and out of YouTube search. Anyone who gets the link can share it, so Unlisted is not private or limited to invited viewers.
What “Unlisted” means for a livestream
Unlisted controls discoverability, not who is allowed to access the stream. YouTube says streamers can choose public, private, or unlisted visibility in the live-stream settings (Manage live stream settings).
| Visibility | Who can watch | Discovery and sharing |
|---|---|---|
| Public | Anyone | Discoverable on YouTube; viewers can share it. |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link | Generally omitted from the channel’s Videos tab and search. Link holders can reshare it. |
| Private | The creator and people they choose through YouTube’s private-sharing controls | Not generally discoverable; access is controlled through private sharing. |
YouTube says unlisted videos may appear in search if someone adds them to a public playlist (Change video privacy settings). The page describes unlisted videos generally, so do not treat Unlisted as a guarantee that a stream or its archive can never be surfaced elsewhere.
What you need before going live
- Your channel must be verified.
- Your channel must have had no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- You must be at least 16 to livestream.
These eligibility rules apply regardless of visibility. Choosing Unlisted does not bypass verification or an active restriction. YouTube’s current requirements are described in its live-streaming eligibility guidance.

YouTube supports livestreaming from a mobile device, webcam, or encoder. The exact creation controls differ by method, but the visibility choice is made in the stream’s details.
How to make a YouTube livestream unlisted
- Start creating a livestream in the YouTube app or YouTube Studio, or configure it in your encoder workflow. Choose the method that fits your broadcast: mobile, webcam, or encoder.
- Open the stream’s details or settings and find the visibility control. Select Unlisted before starting the broadcast. YouTube says streamers can change a livestream’s visibility to public, private, or unlisted (Manage live stream settings).
- Confirm the setting before going live. YouTube notes that defaults can differ by age, so do not assume the stream is unlisted just because a previous stream was. Its live-streaming tips also say you can set a video to public or unlisted before the stream starts.
- Copy and share the stream link with the people you want to reach. Anyone who receives it can watch and pass it on; Unlisted does not create a named guest list.
Can people find an unlisted live stream?
Usually, it will not appear in the channel’s Videos tab or in YouTube search, but anyone with the link can watch and reshare it. If a link is posted publicly, viewers can distribute it beyond the audience you originally intended. YouTube also documents a public-playlist exception for unlisted videos: adding one to a public playlist may make it appear in search (Change video privacy settings).

If you want a stream that only specific people can view, use YouTube’s private-sharing controls rather than Unlisted. If you want broad discovery, choose Public; YouTube says subscribers may receive notifications for public live events. YouTube recommends sharing a link in advance to help viewers find a planned stream, and notes that making an archive public can increase reach (Manage live stream settings).
Check the archive after the stream
Do not assume the finished recording has the visibility you intended just because the live broadcast was unlisted. YouTube provides a separate visibility control for the archive. Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, so check the saved video’s setting after the broadcast ends using YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
