Usually, no. If YouTube has already applied a copyright strike, deleting the livestream does not remove it. There is a narrow exception: if YouTube has scheduled a copyright removal and its seven-day response window is still open, deleting the content before the deadline can prevent the strike. Check the specific notice and the stream’s status in YouTube Studio before acting.
First check whether YouTube has applied a strike
A copyright removal request is a takedown request. If YouTube considers it valid, it removes the content and applies a copyright strike. A scheduled removal request is different: it gives the uploader seven days to act before the removal takes effect. YouTube’s current guidance says deleting the content within that window prevents the strike; once the seven days are over, deleting it will not resolve a strike. YouTube’s guidance on copyright removal requests does not state a publication date.
- Open the notice YouTube sent about the stream or its archive and look for whether the removal is scheduled or completed.
- In YouTube Studio, use the Copyright filter to check the item’s status. A pending takedown is not the same as an active strike.
- Compare the notice’s deadline with the current time. If the scheduled-removal window is still open, deletion is one of the actions YouTube lists for avoiding a strike. If the strike is already active, deletion will not clear it.
If the notice or Studio status is unclear, use the item-specific information or contact YouTube support rather than assuming the scheduled-removal exception applies to every livestream stage or archived-stream state.
What to do in each situation
Scheduled takedown, seven-day window still open
Deleting the content before the deadline can prevent the strike. YouTube also describes retraction and, in a qualifying case, canceling an appeal as possible actions. Follow the instructions and deadline in the actual notice; do not rely on deleting the item after the window closes.

Strike already applied
Deleting the stream or its archive does not clear the copyright strike. YouTube lists three routes: complete Copyright School and wait 90 days for the strike to expire, ask the claimant to retract the removal request, or submit a valid counter notification if you believe the removal was mistaken or an exception applies. The 90-day period is subject to YouTube’s stated conditions, including completing Copyright School. Review YouTube’s copyright-strike guidance before choosing a route.
A counter notification is a formal legal process, not simply an appeal of a Content ID match. Submit one only if you have a good-faith basis to say the removal was mistaken or the use is legally permitted. If you are unsure about the legal consequences, consider qualified legal advice.

Content ID claim, but no removal strike
A Content ID claim is not itself a copyright strike. Depending on the claim and the available options, YouTube may let you trim claimed material, mute it, or replace it. Check the claim details and follow the available Studio controls; changing a claimed video is not the same as resolving a formal takedown strike. See YouTube’s instructions for removing copyright-claimed content.
Why a livestream can have more than one copyright status
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream. If the stream is archived, a Content ID claim may also appear after the broadcast ends. Those outcomes are not automatically the same as a formal copyright removal request that results in a strike. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance explains the live-stream rules.

If the stream stopped, check the YouTube Studio dashboard for restrictions and strike status. YouTube says access to live streaming may be restricted when an active or archived stream receives a strike. A Community Guidelines strike is separate from a copyright strike, so use the notice’s stated policy rather than applying the wrong appeal process. See YouTube’s account-standing guidance.

If you run a YouTube channel with prerecorded videos, StreamNeo can keep an uploaded video or playlist looping from the cloud: upload, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file at its original quality, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot; and it automatically tries to recover if YouTube drops the stream. It does not prevent copyright claims or strikes, so use only content you have the rights to stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
