How to Show a Radio Station Schedule on a YouTube Livestream Screen

To show a radio station schedule on a YouTube livestream, add the schedule to the video composition your encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube Studio manages the broadcast, but the schedule graphic belongs in the encoder’s video output—not in the scheduled-stream settings.

How the schedule gets onto the screen

Your encoder sends YouTube an audio-video feed. The schedule must be part of that produced video, whether it is a fixed panel, a lower third, or a scrolling list. YouTube Studio and the encoder do separate jobs: Studio schedules and manages the broadcast, while the encoder builds and sends the picture viewers see. Google’s documentation describes the stream as the resource that carries audio and video, and the broadcast as the event viewers watch (YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams).

Choose a schedule format

Format Works best when Trade-off
Fixed text or image panel Your daily or weekly lineup is stable. It is straightforward to prepare, but you must update it when the schedule changes.
Scrolling schedule You have a long lineup and limited screen space. It can show more entries, but viewers may miss a show while its listing passes.
Web-rendered or externally updated graphic Your schedule changes often or is data-driven. Updates may be easier, but the source must remain available and render correctly during the broadcast.

These are production choices, not special YouTube schedule-overlay features. If the lineup changes during a show, test how the graphic updates before relying on it live.

Prepare a readable schedule

  1. Prioritize what matters now. Make the current programme and its time easiest to read; show upcoming programmes second. Keep station identification visible without crowding the main listening visual.
  2. Build the graphic. Add text or an image in your encoder. If you need frequent updates, choose a source your encoder can refresh, such as a web-rendered graphic, and verify that it loads reliably.
  3. Check its information. Confirm programme names, times, and time zone. Viewers may be in different regions, so label the schedule’s time zone rather than leaving it implicit.
  4. Preview it at stream size. Check legibility, contrast, cropping, and whether the schedule obscures important station branding or visuals. Test a programme change if the schedule is time-sensitive.

Schedule and start the YouTube broadcast

  1. Enable live streaming if needed. YouTube says enabling a channel for its first live stream may take up to 24 hours; check YouTube’s current encoder instructions before a time-sensitive launch.
  2. Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, choose Manage, and schedule the stream. YouTube says scheduled streams can be promoted and viewers can receive reminders.
  3. Connect your encoder. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder, or select YouTube if the encoder offers that connection. Keep the key private; it lets the encoder connect to your stream.
  4. Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Wait for the video feed, then verify that the schedule appears correctly in Live Control Room before going live.
  5. Go live in Live Control Room. Confirm the broadcast is showing the intended picture and audio before sharing it with viewers.

YouTube supports software and hardware encoder approaches; a physical purchase is not established as necessary just to add a schedule graphic.

Adding the schedule in OBS

OBS is one software option for streaming to YouTube. Its YouTube guide covers selecting YouTube as the stream service and working with scheduled broadcasts (OBS Project: How to stream to YouTube with OBS Studio). In your scene, add a text or graphic source, position and size it in the preview, then test the rendered scene before streaming. OBS menus and source behavior can change, so use the current OBS guides for exact controls.

Keep the broadcast and schedule accurate

  • Update a fixed graphic whenever the lineup changes; an old schedule can mislead viewers even if the stream itself is healthy.
  • For scrolling text, check that each listing stays visible long enough to read.
  • For a web-rendered graphic, verify the source is available and still renders after the encoder has been running.
  • Check the finished preview for cropping and contrast, not just the design canvas; the preview is the closest check of what the audience will see.

Troubleshoot common schedule-display problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The stream is live, but no schedule appears. The schedule was made in Studio or elsewhere but not added to the encoder’s video composition. Add or enable the text, image, or graphic source in the scene being sent, then inspect the Live Control Room preview.
The schedule is cut off or hard to read. Its position, size, contrast, or text density does not suit the produced frame. Resize or reposition the graphic, improve contrast, and review it in the stream preview.
The displayed times are wrong. The graphic uses an incorrect or unstated time zone, or the lineup has changed. Verify the source schedule and label its time zone clearly before going live.
A changing schedule stays stale. A fixed graphic was not updated, or an external source is not refreshing or rendering. Update the fixed asset or test the external source’s availability and refresh behavior in the encoder.
The scheduled broadcast has no encoder preview. The encoder may not be connected with the correct stream URL and key, or may not yet be sending. Check the connection details, start sending the encoder feed, and wait for the preview in Live Control Room.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the schedule is already part of a finished video, StreamNeo can keep that uploaded video looping on YouTube without a computer or home connection staying on. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. For a schedule change, update the video itself and upload the revised version; StreamNeo is for uploaded videos, not a live camera or an editable on-screen schedule overlay.
