Start by checking which OBS counter is rising: network dropped frames point to an unstable or insufficient connection to YouTube; rendering lag or encoding lag points to work your local computer cannot keep up with. Then compare that diagnosis with YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages. There is no established India-wide cause or special Indian bitrate requirement—the useful evidence is your own connection, settings, logs, and timestamps.
First, identify what is actually dropping
In OBS, open View > Stats and watch the counters while the problem occurs. Record the values and capture an OBS log covering the affected period. In YouTube Live Control Room, note any stream-health messages at the same time.
- Dropped frames (Network): OBS cannot reliably deliver the configured bitrate to the ingest server. Investigate upload stability and the network path.
- Frames missed due to rendering lag: OBS cannot render frames quickly enough, often because the GPU or other local resources are overworked.
- Skipped frames due to encoding lag: the selected encoder or system cannot encode the output fast enough.
Choppy playback reported by viewers is not necessarily broadcaster-side dropped frames. Viewer buffering can occur even when OBS is sending normally, so compare the OBS counters with YouTube’s health status before changing settings.
Fix rising network-dropped frames
Measure upload performance when the problem happens
Test upload capacity and stability during the hours when your 24/7 stream typically falters, not just when the connection is quiet. YouTube says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” An advertised plan speed or a good download result does not establish that your upload path can sustain a live stream continuously.

Use YouTube’s H.264 figures as a starting point, not a guarantee of what your connection can maintain:

These are YouTube’s current live encoder recommendations, accessed in 2026; the table varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate. They do not promise that a particular Indian ISP, plan, router, or connection will sustain the selected rate. If network drops rise, lower the configured bitrate to a level your upload can sustain; if needed, test a lower resolution. For a mostly static ambient loop, 30 fps may be adequate, but judge the actual movement and image quality rather than reducing settings automatically.

Isolate the local network path
- If you are on Wi-Fi, test with Ethernet. OBS states, “It’s recommended to use a wired connection when streaming.”
- Use a known-good cable and, where practical, test a direct route through the modem/router rather than an extender or switch. A failing cable, router, network card, switch, or extender can disrupt delivery.
- In a controlled test, isolate VPNs, security inspection, network-optimizer software, or outdated network drivers as possible sources of interference. Restore security protection after testing and change only what the evidence identifies.
- If local tests do not explain the drops, contact your ISP with timestamps, OBS logs, YouTube health messages, connection type, and upload-test results. Congestion or routing outside your home can require provider attention.
For a creator in India, investigate the specific ISP route, locality, last-mile connection, and any outage at the time of the drops. The available official guidance does not establish a country-wide cause, rank Indian providers, or prescribe a special bitrate for India.
Check encoder transport settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension to RTMP. Its live encoder guidance recommends CBR bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Match the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval to the stream setup selected in YouTube.

Fix rendering or encoding lag on the computer
Network equipment will not fix a local rendering or encoding bottleneck. Reduce unnecessary GPU work, close resource-heavy applications, and simplify OBS scenes and filters. If the source allows, reduce output resolution or frame rate; OBS specifically suggests trying 30 fps when 60 fps is not working. For an ambient scene, test whether a lower frame rate remains visually smooth, then confirm the output and counters rather than assuming one setting suits every loop.
Follow YouTube’s stream-health message
Use the specific warning in Live Control Room to narrow the next test instead of changing several encoder settings at once. YouTube’s Live API documents configuration issues involving bitrate that is too high or low, codec, frame-rate mismatch, keyframe/GOP length, and mismatches between primary and backup streams.

If YouTube reports videoIngestionStarved, its description is: “YouTube is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming.” Check that the encoder is sending continuously, then verify its resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframes against the selected setup. Change one likely cause at a time so the next test shows whether that change helped.
Validate before restoring 24/7 operation
- Before going live, test with audio and movement similar to the actual ambient content. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Monitor OBS Stats and YouTube stream health during the test, including at the hours when the issue usually occurs.
- Keep a timestamped note of the OBS counters, encoder settings, connection type, upload tests, and YouTube messages. Use it to compare tests or give your ISP actionable details.
Do not infer a fix from a single quiet interval if the fault is intermittent. Validate the change under conditions that resemble the period when the 24/7 stream normally has trouble.

Choose a fix that matches the failure

Common troubleshooting mistakes
- Changing everything at once: makes it hard to tell whether bitrate, frame rate, or the network path mattered. Change one likely cause and compare a new test.
- Buying a cable or router before identifying the counter: useful only if network drops and a local path fault are plausible; it will not resolve rendering or encoding lag.
- Blaming an ISP or country from a symptom alone: gather time-specific logs and tests first. The fault may be local equipment, encoder load, provider congestion, or routing.
- Relying on a hosted player to repair local routing: moving playback to the cloud removes dependence on a home computer staying on, but does not guarantee a better connection route from your ISP to YouTube.
