How to Broadcast a Centova Cast Station on YouTube Live

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To broadcast a Centova Cast station on YouTube Live, connect a compatible live-source application to your Centova station, then send that encoder’s output to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Centova supplies the station connection details; YouTube supplies the destination details. Test the audio and video before the broadcast, and use RTMPS if your encoder supports it.

What you need before you start

  • Access to the Centova Cast control panel and the station’s live-source connection details.
  • A live-source application that your station host confirms is compatible with the station’s protocol and configuration. Centova’s manual does not specify one universal application for every station.
  • A YouTube channel with live streaming available, plus the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio.
  • An upload connection capable of sustaining the settings you choose. Test the connection rather than assuming a particular bitrate will work.

This workflow relays station audio into an encoder, which sends the resulting stream to YouTube. Existing radio audio does not require a microphone or hardware encoder, although a live production may use additional audio or video inputs.

How to stream a Centova Cast station to YouTube Live

1. Start the Centova station

  1. Sign in to Centova Cast and choose Start under Server. Follow Centova’s Starting The Stream instructions if needed.
  2. If the account includes AutoDJ, it may begin playing uploaded media when the server starts. Without AutoDJ, the server can be online but will need a live source to provide audio.

2. Copy the Centova live-source details into your source application

  1. In Centova Cast, open Quick Links and find Live Source Connections.
  2. Copy the connection values into the compatible live-source application. Ask your hosting provider which applications and source protocol work with your particular station; host, port, and credentials can vary.
  3. For SHOUTcast v1 with AutoDJ, stop AutoDJ before starting the live broadcast. Centova says this is not required for SHOUTcast v2 or IceCast. See Performing A Live Broadcast.

At this point, the application should be connected to Centova and receiving the station audio. Keep this station connection separate from the YouTube destination settings: they are two different connections configured in the application.

3. Create or schedule a YouTube stream and enter its credentials

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then use the Stream tab to start an unscheduled stream. To set a broadcast time, use Manage to schedule one. YouTube documents the encoder workflow in its create a stream with an encoder guide.
  2. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s server and key fields. Do not put the key in a public post or share it; anyone with the key may be able to send video to your stream.
  3. If the encoder supports RTMPS, use the RTMPS URL provided by Live Control Room. RTMPS encrypts the connection. Do not simply change an RTMP address by guesswork; use an address and port accepted by the encoder.

4. Choose settings and test the stream

YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video, up to 60 frames per second, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and not exceeding four seconds. Choose a bitrate for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you intend to send, then confirm that your upload connection can sustain it.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

As examples from YouTube’s published guidance, 1080p at 30 fps is listed at 14 Mbps for H.264 and 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265. These are YouTube’s encoder targets, not a guarantee that your connection or hosting setup can maintain them. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the target you plan to use. YouTube Help recommends running a speed test to check upload bitrate.

  1. Start the encoder and confirm that it is receiving the Centova station audio and sending a signal to YouTube.
  2. Listen for clean audio and check the video with representative movement if your broadcast includes video. YouTube recommends testing before going live; an audio-only station should still be checked for silence, clipping, and interruptions.
  3. Watch the stream preview and stream-health indicators in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview to appear, then click Go live when you are ready.

5. End the broadcast and check the archive

Stop the encoder when the broadcast is over. For a scheduled stream, also select End Stream in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on that automatic archive behavior for a stream that runs 12 hours or longer.

Choosing an encoder for this setup

There is no single encoder recommendation that is established for every Centova station. Confirm compatibility with your station host, then compare the options on the points that affect this relay:

  • Centova compatibility: Does it support the source protocol and connection details supplied for your station?
  • Secure YouTube ingest: Does it support RTMPS if you want an encrypted connection?
  • Audio routing: Can it receive the station audio reliably without introducing silence, clipping, or unwanted mixing?
  • Monitoring and recovery: Can you see connection status and detect a dropped source or destination?
  • Operating system and cost: Is it available for the system you plan to use, and does its cost fit the way you will operate the broadcast?

Troubleshooting connection and stream problems

The encoder cannot connect to Centova

  • Recheck the host and port shown under Quick Links → Live Source Connections; do not substitute an address from another station.
  • Use the source password, not the Centova administrator password.
  • Check whether another source or AutoDJ is already occupying the SHOUTcast connection. For SHOUTcast v1, Centova notes that the source port is the stream port plus one; its example is stream port 8000 and source port 8001.
  • Use the server’s actual address, not localhost or 127.0.0.1, which refer to the encoder’s own machine.
  • Check that a firewall allows access to the station’s stream port. Centova’s live source troubleshooting checklist covers these common causes.

YouTube does not receive the encoder signal

  • Confirm that the stream URL and key came from the intended YouTube stream and are entered in the correct fields.
  • Check that the encoder is running and that its output is directed to YouTube, not only connected to Centova.
  • For RTMPS connection errors or timeouts, verify that the URL uses the RTMPS address supplied by YouTube, the encoder supports RTMPS, and the port is 443. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide also requires correct hostname handling for TLS SNI authentication.

The stream connects but has silence, poor audio, or unstable quality

  • Verify that the encoder is receiving the station audio and that the correct audio input or routing is selected.
  • Test the upload connection and reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if it cannot sustain the chosen settings. Check YouTube’s guidance for a bitrate appropriate to the selected codec and output.
  • Review YouTube’s stream-health indicators and the encoder’s own connection status to identify whether the problem is on the source or destination side.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is simply to keep pre-recorded video live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a different workflow from relaying a Centova radio station: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud; it does not take a live camera feed or connect to other platforms.
