First check whether the whole playlist is missing or whether it opens but shows fewer videos than expected. For a missing playlist, verify you are signed into the right account and check its privacy setting. For missing entries inside a playlist, inspect the playlist in its management view and check whether unavailable videos are hidden. These are different problems and need different fixes.
1. Work out what is missing
- The playlist itself is absent: check the account that owns it and its visibility setting. A private playlist is viewable only by its owner; an unlisted playlist is accessible by link but is not surfaced in search or recommendations. YouTube Help
- The playlist opens but has fewer videos than expected: inspect its saved entries in the playlist manager. Privacy settings control access to the playlist, not whether every video in it is currently watchable.
2. Confirm the account and open the playlist manager
Sign into the Google account that created or manages the playlist. Open YouTube’s You tab or YouTube Studio and locate the playlist. YouTube Help notes that private playlists can be viewed only by their owner, so being signed into a different account can make a playlist seem to have disappeared.
In the playlist’s management view, select the All filter to inspect all content saved to it. YouTube describes this filter as displaying “all content saved to the playlist.” You can also edit playlist details and reorder videos there. YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists
3. If the whole playlist is missing, check its visibility
If you own the playlist, open YouTube Studio → Content → Playlists, open the playlist’s Details, choose Visibility, select the setting you want, and save. YouTube documents three settings:

These settings describe the playlist’s access and discoverability. They do not restore a video that has become unavailable. YouTube Help: Change playlist privacy setting
4. If entries are missing, check for unavailable videos
If YouTube indicates that unavailable videos are hidden, look in the playlist’s menu for an option to show unavailable entries. A 2021 tutorial describes an option labeled “Show unavailable videos,” but YouTube’s official help documentation cited here does not establish that every account or interface has this control. Showing an unavailable entry does not bring back the video or grant access to private content. If the uploader deleted the video or changed its privacy, the playlist owner may need an accessible replacement or help from the uploader. Do not try to bypass access controls.
5. If you are adding a video, check the Made for Kids limitation
A narrow exception applies when the issue is adding a video rather than viewing an existing playlist entry: YouTube Help says Made for Kids content cannot be added to a playlist from the homepage, but it can be added from search results. 6. Use the playlist count as a clue, not a diagnosis
The YouTube Data API defines a playlist contentDetails.itemCount field for the number of videos in a playlist. A count that differs from what you can see may help identify a mismatch, but it does not say why an entry is unavailable or prove that the video can be restored.
