You can configure a 720p YouTube music livestream with a modest, stable connection, but the bitrate setting alone cannot make it reliable or legally safe. First secure rights to every track and coordinate Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder or distributor. Then configure a 720p30 encoder, test the full stream, and arrange monitoring and recovery. Treat “24/7” as the schedule you are aiming to maintain—not a guarantee that one broadcast will stay uninterrupted indefinitely.
Before you stream: clear the music rights
Do not build a playlist from songs you like and assume that a music-service subscription, a generic performance permission, or crediting the artist makes a YouTube livestream lawful. Indian copyright law identifies public performance and communication to the public among rights held by copyright owners. A stream may involve rights in both the underlying musical work and the sound recording. The Copyright Office describes communication to the public as making a work or performance available to be heard or enjoyed by the public, whether or not anyone actually listens. The Copyright Act and Rules provide legal context, but do not establish a universal licence for an individual creator’s YouTube stream.
Get permission for the exact use
Obtain written permission from the relevant rights owners or their authorized representatives. Check that it covers the specific tracks, YouTube live-stream use, the territories where the stream will be available, and any archive or replay you plan to keep. Confirm both composition and sound-recording rights where applicable. The applicable rights and licensing route depend on the facts; the statutory broadcasting provisions should not be treated as an automatic licence for a creator’s YouTube stream.
Ask for Content ID coordination before launch
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the image, warn you, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: the channel may also need to be added to the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using protected music. Ask the rights holder or distributor to confirm allowlisting for the channel before going live. YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance explains the platform’s approach.

Archived live streams can receive Content ID claims after the broadcast ends. Only enable or retain an archive if your permission also covers the recorded video and its territories.
Configure a 720p stream for lower bandwidth
For a practical starting point, use 1280×720 at 30 frames per second (720p30). YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends 8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30, or 6 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 at the same resolution and frame rate. These are recommended encoder-to-YouTube ingest bitrates, not a promise that a particular internet plan will work. The minimum figures in YouTube’s bitrate table are not the recommended target for stable quality. Allow headroom and test the sustained upload at the actual streaming location and time.

Recommended starting settings
| Setting | Starting value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280×720, 30 fps | A sensible low-bandwidth starting point for a music stream. |
| Video codec and bitrate | H.264: 8 Mbps; AV1 or H.265: 6 Mbps | YouTube’s recommended bitrate for 720p30. Use a codec your encoder and workflow support. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube lists constant bitrate as its recommended rate-control mode. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends two seconds; do not exceed four seconds. |
| Audio | Stereo AAC or MP3; 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps | YouTube’s advanced settings list 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps for stereo audio. Keep these settings consistent on a backup encoder. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS where available | YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. |
These settings follow YouTube’s encoder and live-stream settings guidance. If you choose a different codec or frame rate, check YouTube’s current table for the corresponding recommendation rather than reusing the 720p30 figures.
Check the connection, not just the plan label
YouTube recommends measuring upload bitrate and testing the stream with representative audio and movement. Run the test on the connection and equipment you intend to use; a result from another location or time cannot establish how your setup will behave during an unattended broadcast. A wired connection is preferable if your installation permits it. Keep enough upload headroom for normal variation instead of treating the recommended ingest bitrate as a complete internet-plan requirement.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Prepare the channel and stream in YouTube Studio. Create the live stream in YouTube Studio and use the server URL and stream key shown for it. YouTube’s live encoder setup guide covers the current Studio workflow: Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- Protect the stream key. Enter the key only in your encoder or streaming service’s private settings. Do not post it, show it on screen, or send it to anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder before the next broadcast.
- Enter the video settings. Select 1280×720, 30 fps, CBR, and the bitrate appropriate to your chosen codec: 8 Mbps for H.264 or 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265, following YouTube’s 720p30 recommendations. Set the keyframe interval to two seconds.
- Enter the audio settings. Select AAC or MP3 stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Check that the music reaches the encoder cleanly and that no system notification sounds or other unintended audio are being captured.
- Choose RTMPS if your encoder supports it. Use YouTube’s secure ingest option where available and verify the encoder is sending to the correct server address.
- Run a private or otherwise controlled test before the scheduled stream. Use representative tracks and movement, confirm picture and audio at the viewer end, and check YouTube Studio for stream health and warnings. Do not treat a short test as proof of uninterrupted operation for a full day.
Keep a 24/7 schedule operationally realistic
A 24/7 schedule requires more than an encoder setting. YouTube’s official encoder and API documentation expose stream-health status and configuration issues, but do not guarantee that a single broadcast can remain uninterrupted indefinitely. The guidance available here also does not establish a universal maximum broadcast duration. Plan for interruptions and do not advertise uninterrupted operation as guaranteed.
Assign monitoring and recovery responsibility
- Have a responsible person check YouTube Studio’s stream health and messages during the broadcast.
- Write down what to do if the internet connection drops, the encoder stops, power fails, or YouTube interrupts the stream for a copyright match.
- Make sure someone can restart the encoder and confirm that the live stream has returned. If the broadcast is intended to continue unattended, test the actual recovery path first.
- Keep the rights holder’s or distributor’s contact details available in case a licensed track is matched despite prior arrangements.
YouTube’s API documentation describes stream-health status and configuration issues, not a service-level promise of continuous operation: LiveStreams resource.

Choose encoder hardware for the job, not a guessed minimum spec
A computer-based encoder gives you control over the video and audio configuration, but the sources do not establish a particular CPU, memory amount, or computer model as a minimum. Check that the device supports your chosen codec, can encode 720p30 continuously, has suitable wired networking if available, and can manage heat and power during unattended use. Test the complete setup under the conditions in which it will run; a device that works for a short session may still need monitoring and a restart plan.

| Symptom | Likely issue | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports unstable or poor stream health | Upload performance is varying or the encoder settings do not match the intended stream. | Measure sustained upload at the streaming location, check YouTube’s stream-health messages, verify the selected bitrate and codec, and test again. Do not assume a plan’s advertised speed is the sustained upload available to the encoder. |
| Video or audio does not appear as expected | Encoder settings, ingest destination, or audio capture may be misconfigured. | Confirm the YouTube server address and stream key, then check resolution, frame rate, CBR, keyframe interval, audio codec, sample rate, and bitrate against the settings table. Verify the viewer-side result in a controlled test. |
| YouTube warns, replaces the image, interrupts, or ends the stream | A live Content ID match may have been detected, even if you have permission. | Check the YouTube notification, contact the rights holder or distributor, and confirm that the channel is allowlisted. Do not assume that restarting alone resolves the underlying match. |
| A claim appears after the stream ends | The archived live video may have been matched after broadcast. | Review the claim and your licence terms. Keep an archive only when the permission covers the recorded video and relevant territories. |
| The stream stops when nobody is present | The encoder, computer, connection, or power may have failed, with no one available to recover it. | Identify which part stopped, restore it, and verify the stream in YouTube Studio. Assign a monitor and test the recovery procedure before relying on an unattended schedule. |
Or let it run in the cloud
