How to Stream 24/7 Indian Chill Music on YouTube from a Linux VPS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To keep Indian chill music live on YouTube around the clock from a Linux VPS, prepare a rights-cleared audio-and-visual program, use FFmpeg to encode it as a live stream, and send it to YouTube over RTMPS. Run FFmpeg under Linux service supervision and monitor both the process and YouTube’s stream health. A VPS can keep your home computer off, but it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast: network failures, encoder problems, and copyright matches can still stop a stream.

Before you set up the server

Confirm channel access and permissions

Check that your channel can start a live stream and create or schedule the event in YouTube Live Control Room. Activation requirements can change; check YouTube’s current guidance and your channel’s own Live Control Room rather than relying on an assumed waiting period or subscriber threshold.

Clear every track and visual for the uses you intend: continuous live streaming, monetization if applicable, the territories where viewers may watch, and any archive or replay YouTube creates. “Indian chill,” “lofi,” or “royalty-free” is not by itself proof that a catalog is cleared for this use. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you have a license for third-party music, ask the rights owner whether the channel must be allowlisted through Content ID; YouTube warns that a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance explains the platform’s process.

Choose media and a VPS that suit the stream

For a first deployment, a single, long audio-and-visual file is the simplest input to loop. If you want a changing playlist, assemble and test it before going live; make sure each track and visual in it is cleared. Choose a VPS with enough CPU for the chosen encoding settings, storage for the media and logs, and an outbound transfer allowance appropriate to a continuous stream. There is no universal VPS size or price: the required resources depend on your files, encoding profile, provider limits, and whether you encode on the server or send a compatible pre-encoded feed.

Estimate outbound data from your video bitrate before choosing a plan. At a constant 4 Mbps, video alone sends about 1.3 TB over 30 days (4 megabits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8); audio, protocol overhead, reconnects, and other server traffic add to that. Confirm whether the provider counts outbound transfer and what happens if you exceed the allowance.

Pick a YouTube encoder profile

YouTube recommends RTMPS for ingest. Its live encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), and up to 60 fps. Supported video codecs listed in the guidance include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. The example below uses H.264 because it is a straightforward starting profile; the bitrate figures in the table are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode continuously.

H.264 profile YouTube-recommended video bitrate When it may suit this stream
240p–720p at 30 fps 4 Mbps A modest starting profile for a static or slowly moving visual; test the actual stream.
720p at 60 fps 6 Mbps Use only if the visual needs 60 fps and the VPS sustains the encode.
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps For a higher-resolution visual where the server and transfer allowance support it.
1080p at 60 fps 12 Mbps For a 60 fps, 1080p presentation; it adds encoding and network demand.

For stereo audio, YouTube recommends AAC or MP3, a 44.1 kHz sample rate, and 128 kbps audio bitrate. Its bitrate table varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate; consult the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance before using a profile not shown here.

Prepare a loop file on Linux

Install FFmpeg and stage your media

On a Debian- or Ubuntu-based VPS with the standard package repositories enabled, install FFmpeg with:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
sudo apt update
sudo apt install ffmpeg

Other distributions use different package managers and may package different FFmpeg builds. Check the installed version and available encoders with ffmpeg -version and ffmpeg -encoders. Put your prepared video file on the VPS, for example at /srv/chill/live.mp4, and confirm the service account that will run FFmpeg can read it. The file needs both the desired visual and music audio. This avoids relying on a camera or on separate inputs staying synchronized.

Check the input before the live test

Inspect the file’s streams and duration before configuring the broadcast:

ffprobe -hide_banner /srv/chill/live.mp4

Confirm that it has a video stream and an audio stream, that the picture orientation and dimensions are right, and that the soundtrack plays through without gaps or unexpected silence. If the video contains only a still image and no audio, this example will not create a soundtrack; prepare a combined audio/video file first.

Create the YouTube stream and protect its key

  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the live stream you intend to use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  2. In the stream settings, reveal and copy the stream key. Keep it secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to publish to your stream. Do not paste it into a public chat, shell command saved in shared history, or public code repository.

  3. Copy the server URL shown for RTMPS. YouTube warns that the default URL displayed may be ordinary RTMP, so confirm you selected the RTMPS address. Use the exact URL and key YouTube gives you; do not guess an ingest hostname or path.

  4. Store the endpoint and key in a restricted file readable only by the account that runs FFmpeg. The command below expects a value in the form rtmps://host/application/streamkey; substitute the actual RTMPS URL and key from Live Control Room.

YouTube’s API-level RTMPS guidance specifies TLS over port 443 and requires the RTMPS hostname for SNI authentication. If you build a custom integration rather than copying the Live Control Room endpoint, follow the YouTube RTMPS ingestion instructions and use a valid endpoint and application path. Its liveStream resource exposes stream status and health information.

Test FFmpeg before leaving it unattended

Use a protected endpoint file

Create a file containing the full RTMPS publish URL. Replace the example with the URL and key from your own Live Control Room:

sudo install -d -m 0750 /etc/chill-stream
sudo sh -c 'umask 077; printf "%sn" "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_RTMPS_ENDPOINT/YOUR_STREAM_KEY" > /etc/chill-stream/publish-url'

Restrict access to the file and ensure only the FFmpeg service account can read it. Avoid putting a real key in a shell command or a guide that may be copied into logs or history. If the key is exposed, rotate or revoke it using YouTube’s stream settings.

Run a short representative test

For a first test, have FFmpeg read the file at its native rate, loop it, encode H.264 video with a two-second GOP, encode stereo AAC audio, and publish at the chosen video bitrate. This example uses the 4 Mbps H.264 recommendation for 30 fps and a 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz audio target:

URL="$(cat /etc/chill-stream/publish-url)"
ffmpeg -hide_banner -re -stream_loop -1 -i /srv/chill/live.mp4
  -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0 -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast
  -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
  -b:v 4000k -minrate 4000k -maxrate 4000k -bufsize 8000k
  -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
  -f flv "$URL"

In this command, -re reads the file at native speed rather than sending it as fast as possible; -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely; and -g 60 at 30 fps sets a 60-frame, two-second keyframe interval. -f flv selects the RTMP-family container used for publishing, including RTMPS URLs. FFmpeg documents real-time input and RTMP-family publishing in its command-line documentation. This is an example profile, not a tested complete deployment or a promise of uninterrupted service. The VPS must sustain the encode and send rate, and the input must contain the mapped streams.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before relying on it, watch the actual YouTube playback and the stream-health feedback in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, not just an idle encoder. Check the picture, sound, loop transition, and any health warnings before leaving the VPS to run unattended.

Keep the process running and recover sensibly

Do not rely on an interactive SSH session as the supervisor for a 24/7 stream. Run FFmpeg as a managed service, keep its logs, and configure restart-on-failure. For example, create /etc/systemd/system/chill-stream.service, adjusting the account and paths for your VPS:

Put the tested FFmpeg command in /usr/local/bin/chill-stream.sh, with the endpoint read from the protected file rather than embedded in the script. Make the script executable and readable by the service account, then enable and start the unit:

sudo chmod 0750 /usr/local/bin/chill-stream.sh
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now chill-stream.service
sudo systemctl status chill-stream.service
sudo journalctl -u chill-stream.service -f

Use a log-retention policy so continuous output does not fill the VPS disk. Monitor available disk space, whether the FFmpeg process exits, and YouTube’s stream health. Configure an alert for a failed service or a health issue you can observe. A service restart can recover from some process exits, but it cannot fix an invalid key, rights interruption, sustained network failure, or a VPS that lacks the required CPU or transfer capacity. FFmpeg also documents a FIFO muxer approach that can attempt recovery from temporary network outages; that is an additional configuration to test, not a guarantee that viewers will never see an interruption.

Read YouTube’s health messages and troubleshoot

YouTube’s live-stream health feedback can surface configuration issues including low video bitrate, frame-rate mismatch, and missing audio. Check Live Control Room during tests and operation, and change one relevant setting at a time.

  • No picture or no audio: Inspect the input with ffprobe, verify the correct stream mapping, and confirm the output file has both audio and video. If the source has multiple streams or an unusual format, choose the intended streams explicitly rather than assuming stream 0 is the right one.

  • Low bitrate warning or unstable playback: Check the encoder output and VPS outbound capacity. Confirm the selected bitrate matches YouTube’s current guidance and that the provider is not limiting or exhausting transfer. If the host cannot sustain the encode or send rate, test a lower-resolution profile.

  • Frame-rate mismatch: Set the output frame rate deliberately and match the configured GOP to it. For example, a two-second GOP at 30 fps is 60 frames; a two-second GOP at 60 fps is 120 frames. Check the current encoder guidance if changing codec or profile.

  • FFmpeg exits or keeps restarting: Read the unit log with journalctl -u chill-stream.service. Check for a missing media file, permissions, invalid endpoint, expired or rotated key, unavailable encoder, and server disk or memory pressure. Fix the underlying error before increasing restart frequency.

  • YouTube replaces, interrupts, or terminates the broadcast: Check for a copyright match and stop the disputed material. Resolve rights for the track and visual; where licensed content is involved, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. Repeatedly restarting the same flagged material does not clear it.

  • The stream works in a test but fails after a reboot: Confirm the service is enabled, the network is online when it starts, the service account can read the media and secret URL file, and the paths in the script are absolute and correct.

What a VPS setup does—and does not—solve

A VPS moves encoding and publishing off your home computer and connection. You still own the deployment: media preparation, rights checks, stream-key security, service supervision, monitoring, and provider capacity. YouTube transcodes incoming live video for viewer formats, but that does not remove the need to send a valid, stable source stream. YouTube does not establish one maximum continuous duration or archive behavior for every long live stream in the guidance cited here; check current platform rules and plan how you will handle replays rather than assuming a 24/7 archive is unlimited.
