You can collect viewer tips during a livestream with a Stripe Payment Link: create a hosted payment page, then share its link or QR code in a place viewers can access. Before you set it up, make sure the payment is genuinely for content or another service you provide; Stripe does not support personal transfers dressed up as tips or donations.
Check that your payment is a tip, not a personal transfer
Stripe says a tip must be given for goods or services already provided, and gives content as an example. A viewer’s payment supporting your stream can fit that description. Stripe does not support personal or peer-to-peer money transmission, so do not use a tip link as a way to collect an unrelated personal transfer. Stripe’s requirements for accepting tips or donations explain the distinction.
Use the word “donation” only when the money is for a specific charitable purpose, you clearly describe that purpose, and the funds are used for it. Calling ordinary creator support a donation does not make it charitable or change the rules that apply.
Create a Stripe Payment Link
Payment Links are Stripe’s no-code option for making a hosted payment page. In the Stripe Dashboard, start a new payment link and choose the amount model that matches how you want viewers to pay. Stripe’s current setup details are in its guide to accepting donations through Stripe; follow the wording and available options shown in your own Dashboard.

Choose a fixed amount or let viewers choose
- Fixed amount: Select a product or subscription. If needed, create a product with its name, description, and price. Stripe supports a fixed amount as a one-time payment or a recurring subscription.
- Customer-chosen amount: Enter a title and description for the payment page. You can optionally set a preset amount and minimum or maximum. Stripe documents this option as a one-time payment, not a recurring one.
Describe what the viewer is supporting accurately—for example, your livestream content. Do not promise benefits, access, or goods unless you actually provide them.
Set the call to action and create the link
In Advanced options, Stripe’s support guide says the call-to-action label can be changed from “pay” to “donate” when appropriate. For ordinary creator tips, use language that reflects payment for content rather than implying a charitable donation.

Create the link, then copy its URL or choose the QR code option. Stripe says a Payment Link can be shared by email or social media, or placed on a website. You could put it in a stream description, profile, pinned comment, or an on-screen graphic if your streaming platform allows that placement; check that platform’s current rules, since requirements differ and are not established here.
Choose how viewers reach checkout
Payment Links are the simplest implementation when a shareable hosted page is enough. If you have a website and want checkout to feel more integrated, Stripe Checkout supports a hosted redirect as well as embedded payment forms or components. See Stripe Checkout and the Checkout quickstarts for those implementation paths. Embedding checkout is a development choice; it is not required to make a basic tip link.

Check country eligibility before sharing the link
Stripe requires users to comply with local law, and its guidance describes restrictions that vary by country and by whether the payment is a tip or a charitable donation. Examples include restrictions on donations in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. Those examples are not a complete legal assessment, and they do not establish whether a particular creator or payment qualifies. Check Stripe’s current requirements for your location and use case before launch, and confirm your account’s eligibility in Stripe.
Fees, payout timing, and account review depend on the creator’s circumstances; confirm the applicable terms in your Stripe account rather than assuming a specific rate or schedule.
