The key limits: concat is not a tool for making mismatched files compatible, and you need the necessary rights to stream every video and its music. A continuous broadcast also does not guarantee one uninterrupted 24-hour YouTube archive.
Before you start: confirm the files and rights
Check that concat demuxing fits your videos
The concat demuxer joins files in sequence without first merging them into a new media file. It expects the inputs to have the same streams, including compatible codecs and time bases. It does not normalize arbitrary videos. Differences in stream layout or inaccurate duration metadata can cause timestamp problems, gaps, or artifacts at transitions. See FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation.
If the files differ materially in codec, resolution, frame rate, or stream layout, normalize them to a consistent format first or use a concat filter workflow that re-encodes them. FFmpeg distinguishes the demuxer approach from concatenation with filters in its FAQ. Stream copying may use less CPU, but depends on compatible streams and container support; transcoding can standardize output at the cost of processing time. Which option is practical depends on your files and machine.
Get permission for the music and video
FFmpeg does not grant rights to the recordings or videos you stream. YouTube’s live terms say the streamer must have the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The exact permissions depend on the content, license, territories and applicable law; no permission for any particular Indian music video is established here. Make sure your authorization covers the audiovisual recording and underlying composition, live use in the relevant territories, and any archive you intend to retain.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party material. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it or terminate it. Even with a license, you may need the rights owner to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s livestream copyright guidance explains these restrictions. Its Creator Music FAQ says Creator Music licenses do not cover live content, so a license from that catalog should not be treated as authorization for this livestream.
Prepare a compatible playlist
Keep the playlist paths stable
Put the playlist and media in a directory where the files will remain available while FFmpeg runs. Create a plain-text file named, for example, playlist.ffconcat, with the exact recognition header on its first line, followed by one file directive per video:

file 'video-03.mp4'Use paths relative to the playlist where practical. Quote or escape filenames containing spaces or special characters. The header must be the first line if you want FFmpeg to recognize the format automatically. The concat demuxer advances timestamps using each input’s duration, so incorrect duration metadata or differing stream lengths may affect transitions.
Choose demuxer or filter
- Use the concat demuxer when the files have compatible streams and you want to avoid re-encoding the inputs merely to join them.
- Use a concat filter workflow when the inputs need re-encoding or normalization to create consistent output. This requires a filter and re-encoding rather than simply listing files for the demuxer.
Connect FFmpeg to YouTube Live
Create the stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or select the stream using the current interface.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the exact ingestion details YouTube provides; keep the key private and out of public scripts, screenshots and logs.
- Check the incoming preview in Live Control Room, then start the stream as directed by YouTube’s interface. The command below is an illustrative RTMP-style pattern, not a tested command or guarantee for arbitrary inputs.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes the Live Control Room workflow at Set up your encoder for live streaming. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes RTMP/RTMPS, HLS and DASH ingestion options; the example below uses an RTMP-style destination.

Run an illustrative loop command

'rtmp://YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY'Replace the destination with the exact ingestion address and stream name/key form supplied for your YouTube stream. Confirm the installed FFmpeg version and its -stream_loop behavior. -safe 0 permits paths outside the concat demuxer’s restricted safe-path form; use it only with a playlist you control. The H.264/AAC output settings transcode the output, but they do not remove concat demuxer input compatibility or timestamp requirements. Test a short stream privately or unlisted and inspect transitions before relying on a longer broadcast.
Set expectations for quality and archiving
Do not confuse YouTube’s upload recommendations with live encoder settings. YouTube’s video upload encoding guidance lists upload formats and upload bitrate figures, not live bitrate recommendations. A live-specific bitrate, keyframe interval and end-to-end network requirement are not established here; use the current live guidance shown for your encoder and stream rather than treating upload figures as live settings.

YouTube Help states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a promise that one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will be archived as a single video. Check current Live Control Room guidance if you need to retain longer broadcasts. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.

- FFmpeg rejects the playlist or cannot find a file: check that the header is exactly
ffconcat version 1.0on line one, verify each path relative to the playlist, and quote or escape special characters. - Errors or glitches at file boundaries: check whether the inputs have matching streams, codecs and time bases, and inspect their actual durations. Normalize incompatible files or use a filter workflow with re-encoding.
- The stream does not appear in YouTube: confirm the stream is selected in Live Control Room and that the destination uses the exact stream URL and key for it. Keep the key private; replace it through YouTube if it has been exposed.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced: check Live Control Room for copyright notices. A third-party match may require permission and channel allowlisting by the rights owner; a license alone does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
- The broadcast runs but no 24-hour archive appears: do not assume YouTube will produce one continuous archive for a stream over its stated under-12-hour automatic archive threshold. Check the current archive guidance and plan retention separately.
