Scheduling gives viewers an upcoming event page where they can select Notify me; YouTube sends its live notification after a public encoder stream is detected as live. This is different from automatically publishing a Community post or posting an announcement to another social network.
What “automatically post” means on YouTube
YouTube’s built-in options automate an upcoming stream listing, let viewers opt into a reminder, and send eligible subscribers a live notification when a public stream is actually underway. They do not automatically publish a separate Community announcement or a post on another social platform.
There are two useful points in the process: scheduling makes the event discoverable before the broadcast, while YouTube’s live notification is tied to the broadcast becoming public and, for an encoder stream, YouTube detecting that it is live. Neither step guarantees that every subscriber sees an alert or attends.
Schedule a stream and alert subscribers
- Open the scheduling controls. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open the Manage tab and schedule a stream. Enter its title, start time, and privacy setting. YouTube may show a scheduled stream as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds.
- Set the stream to Public. Public visibility is necessary for YouTube’s public-live notification behavior. An unlisted live stream does not send subscriber notifications.
- Share the scheduled watch-page link. Send it to your audience before the event so viewers can open the event and select Notify me. YouTube’s promotion guidance recommends sharing the stream link at least 48 hours ahead of the broadcast.
- Start the broadcast at the scheduled time. Connect your encoder and begin sending the stream, or use YouTube’s webcam workflow if that is how you are producing it. Complete the Live Control Room’s go-live step if your setup requires it. For an encoder stream, YouTube sends notifications to eligible subscribers after the stream is public and YouTube detects that you are live.
- Check the event and broadcast status. Confirm that the scheduled event has the intended public setting and that the Live Control Room shows the stream as live. A scheduled event alone is not the same as an active broadcast.
A webcam is optional: it can be part of a webcam-based broadcast, but it is not required to schedule a stream or enable YouTube notifications.

Who receives a notification—and when
YouTube does not send a live alert to every subscriber automatically. A subscriber generally needs to have selected All notifications for your channel and enabled YouTube notifications for their account and device. Viewers can also opt into a reminder on the scheduled stream by selecting Notify me.
- Personalized delivery can be delayed. Some subscribers may receive a notification later than publication; delivery is individualized, and account or device settings can prevent it.
- There is a per-channel limit. YouTube Help’s guidance accessed in 2026 sets a maximum of 3 notifications per channel in a 24-hour period across uploads, live streams, and Premieres.
- Community posts have a separate limit. YouTube Help’s 2026 guidance says a channel can send 1 Community post notification per 3-day period. This is not the same as a live-stream notification.
- Public-live notifications cannot be switched off with the upload checkbox. YouTube says it is not possible to disable public live stream video notifications using the upload-notification setting. Unlisted live streams do not send those subscriber notifications.
These rules mean no creator-side setting can promise immediate delivery to every subscriber. Sharing the event link directly gives viewers another way to find the stream and set their own reminder.

Scheduled reminders versus separate social posts

Automate broadcast setup with the YouTube API
If you are building your own creator workflow, Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API supports creating broadcasts with a title, scheduled start time, and privacy status. Its documented broadcast properties include enableAutoStart and enableAutoStop; the broadcast and stream resources can be bound and transitioned through their lifecycle. Write operations require user authorization.
This is a developer option for managing a YouTube broadcast, not a ready-made social scheduler. The API documentation described here does not establish that it creates a Community post or publishes announcements to other platforms. You still need to respect the public-stream and live-detection conditions for YouTube’s subscriber notification behavior.

Common problems and fixes
- The scheduled stream appears, but subscribers are not alerted yet: A scheduled page is an upcoming event, not a live broadcast. Start sending the encoder stream and complete the go-live step; YouTube must detect a public stream as live before sending encoder-stream notifications.
- The stream is unlisted: Unlisted live streams do not send subscriber notifications. Change the privacy setting to Public if public notification behavior is your goal.
- Some subscribers do not receive an alert: They may not have enabled All notifications for your channel, may have YouTube notifications disabled at the account or device level, or may receive personalized delivery later. The channel’s notification limit can also apply.
- You expected a Community post or an external social post: Scheduling a live stream does not create those separate posts. Publish a Community post or external announcement through the relevant workflow if you need one; do not assume the Live Streaming API performs that task.
- You shared the link shortly before going live: YouTube recommends sharing the stream link at least 48 hours before the event, giving viewers time to find the scheduled page and opt into a reminder.
After the live stream
YouTube’s promotion guidance says the stream archive is automatically uploaded by default and recommends making the archive public to expand reach. Mobile-stream Short highlights have specific eligibility and format limits; those do not apply to every stream, so check the relevant YouTube guidance before relying on that feature.
