From the VPS running your encoder, check the exact ingest URL copied from YouTube Live Control Room, then test DNS resolution, outbound TCP 443 and TLS to that hostname. For YouTube RTMPS, the client connects over TLS to port 443, and the hostname must be used for SNI. A wrong protocol, blocked VPS egress, encoder incompatibility or an IPv4/IPv6 path issue can each be involved; the error text alone cannot tell you which.
Start by identifying which connection failed
Before changing firewall rules or moving to another VPS, record the information that can distinguish a network failure from an encoder or YouTube startup problem:
- The encoder name and version, VPS operating system and India region.
- The exact error text and the time it occurred.
- Whether the encoder is configured for
rtmp://orrtmps://. - The YouTube ingest hostname and endpoint format, but never the stream key.
- Whether the failure occurs during DNS lookup, TCP connection, TLS handshake or after the encoder begins sending the stream.
Keep the stream key private. Do not include it in screenshots, support tickets or public logs.
Use the current YouTube ingest URL and protocol
Open YouTube Live Control Room, go to Stream settings and copy the current server URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube may show an ordinary RTMP URL by default; its RTMPS setup instructions explain how to reveal the RTMPS URL. Match the protocol selected in the encoder to the URL YouTube supplied: RTMP and RTMPS are not interchangeable. Sending unencrypted RTMP to an endpoint expecting RTMPS can fail.

If you use RTMPS, confirm that the encoder supports it and that it uses the complete supplied server address and path. Do not substitute a guessed IP address for the hostname: TLS needs the hostname for authentication and SNI. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide specifies TLS and port 443 for the client connection to YouTube’s ingestion server.
Test DNS, outbound TCP 443 and TLS from the VPS
Run checks from the same VPS and runtime environment that runs the encoder. Testing from your home computer does not establish that the VPS can reach YouTube. Use the exact hostname copied from YouTube’s settings.

- Check DNS: verify that the ingest hostname resolves. If it does not, investigate the VPS resolver or provider network before changing encoder settings.
- Check outbound TCP 443: verify that the guest operating system firewall, any cloud or VPS network firewall, and the provider’s egress policy allow an outbound connection to the hostname on TCP port 443.
- Check TLS using the hostname: test the handshake against the configured hostname so SNI is sent. A failed connection or handshake is evidence to investigate the network path; a successful generic HTTPS request alone does not prove the ingest path or encoder implementation works.
- Retry the encoder: after a successful network check, start the stream with the exact current URL and protocol from Live Control Room.
YouTube RTMPS uses an outbound client connection to port 443. Opening inbound port 1935 on the VPS is not the fix for that documented connection path.
Separate network refusal from encoder or stream-key problems
If DNS, TCP and TLS checks succeed but YouTube does not accept the stream, focus on the encoder and stream configuration. Update the encoder and confirm support for the selected protocol. For third-party encoder startup errors, YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends refreshing the stream key in Live Control Room and updating it in the encoder. Keep the replacement key private.

If the stream connects but becomes unstable, inspect encoder health and the VPS’s outbound connection quality. YouTube advises testing outbound connectivity and contacting the internet provider when connectivity issues are found. A successful connection test does not by itself rule out an intermittent route or an encoder-side problem.
Test IPv4 only when the setup makes it relevant
PRISM Live Studio’s desktop troubleshooting page for India and Indonesia recommends setting IP Family to IPv4 Only, enabling network optimizations, applying the changes and restarting the app. The vendor attributes the issue it describes to certain IPv6 transition policies and ISP infrastructure changes. This is targeted advice for the documented PRISM case, not proof that IPv6 causes every connection refusal from an Indian VPS.

If your VPS and encoder runtime use IPv6 and allow an address-family choice, compare reachability to the same YouTube hostname over IPv4 and IPv6. For PRISM desktop, follow the vendor’s steps in its connection troubleshooting guide. Do not assume geography alone means IPv6 is the cause.

When DNS, TCP or TLS fails
Contact the VPS provider with the failure time, VPS region, destination hostname, resolved addresses, protocol and port, and sanitized diagnostic output. Ask whether outbound RTMPS over TCP 443 or the route to that destination is filtered. Do not send the stream key.

When the network checks succeed but streaming fails
Give the encoder vendor the encoder version, protocol, endpoint format with secrets removed, and relevant TLS or network error. If the failure appears inside YouTube Live Control Room, include the time and YouTube’s displayed error while keeping the key private.
The available public guidance does not identify a particular Indian VPS provider as the cause or establish how frequently this happens in India. Do not treat one refusal as evidence of a country-wide outage.
When to consider changing VPS providers
Do not migrate hosts until checks point to a provider-side restriction or persistent route problem. If you do compare alternatives, verify the details that affect this use case rather than relying on a generic claim that a host supports streaming:
- Availability of an India-region VPS that meets your needs.
- Whether outbound RTMPS over TCP 443 is allowed.
- Control over IPv4 and IPv6 for the VPS and your encoder runtime.
- Provider support for investigating a destination route or egress restriction.
- Network terms that apply to sustained outbound streaming.
No particular host is established as the fix; first confirm the source of the failure.
