You can use a Linux VPS as an always-on host for FFmpeg, which paces a prerecorded cooking video to YouTube Live or sends a genuinely live production from your setup. The VPS can keep your encoder process running while your home computer is off, but neither a VPS nor YouTube guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. First choose whether you are streaming live cooking or looping a recording you own; then set up YouTube Live, configure the encoder, and plan for rights, monitoring, and recovery.
Choose what the channel will broadcast
A 24/7 channel can show cooking as it happens, or it can repeatedly broadcast a prerecorded video. Those are different workflows, and an always-on loop is not the same thing as a live camera feed.

For a cooking-sounds channel, close-up footage and sound recorded by you make your contribution easier to identify. YouTube’s channel-level monetization review can consider the channel, including its videos, description, titles, and descriptions.
Check YouTube Live access and prepare the stream
- Confirm live access in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio and start the live setup flow. Choose the streaming-software or encoder path for a third-party encoder. Availability can depend on your account and channel state, so use Studio to confirm that you can create a broadcast.
- Create the broadcast and read its encoder details. Use the ingest information and stream key shown in Studio. YouTube’s Live Streaming API reference identifies RTMPS as the primary ingestion URL for RTMPS use; follow the endpoint and protocol Studio supplies for your stream.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not put it in a public script, repository, screenshot, or support post. Store it in a file readable only by the account that runs FFmpeg, or inject it through a protected environment or secret store. If it is exposed, reset it in Studio and update the encoder.
- Prepare media you have the right to broadcast. Check that the video and every audible element—including music, sampled sounds, and background audio—are yours or covered by rights that permit the intended YouTube use.
Configure FFmpeg on the Linux VPS
Install FFmpeg using the package source supported by your Linux distribution, and confirm that it is available to the account that will run the stream. There is no single verified command that fits every Linux distribution, input file, YouTube broadcast, and codec combination. Use the FFmpeg documentation and the encoder details currently shown in YouTube Studio to validate the command for your installation rather than copying an untested one.

For a prerecorded loop
- Use a local media file on the VPS and configure FFmpeg to repeat it as input for the duration of the broadcast.
- For file input, FFmpeg’s
-reoption is equivalent to-readrate 1: it reads at the file’s native rate. FFmpeg describes this as useful where packet pacing matters, such as live streaming. - Choose either stream copy or transcoding only after checking the file’s video and audio codecs, container, timestamps, and compatibility with the current YouTube encoder guidance. Stream copy uses less encoding compute but does not change an incompatible source; transcoding adds CPU or hardware-encoder requirements. This workflow has not been benchmarked for a particular VPS or source file.
- Set output resolution, frame rate, video and audio bitrate, keyframe interval, and protocol to values compatible with YouTube’s current encoder guidance and your source. The required values depend on the output profile; there is no verified India-specific VPS profile or universal bitrate established here.
For a genuinely live input
Capture the camera and microphone as live inputs and send them to the ingest details from Studio. Do not use a low file read rate to simulate pacing for real capture input: FFmpeg warns that this can cause packet loss. Test audio/video synchronization and the ingest connection before treating the setup as an unattended broadcast.
Keep the process running—and know what that does not solve
Run the encoder under a Linux process supervisor or service manager configured to restart it after a process exit or VPS reboot. Keep logs, check that the expected process is present, and arrange an alert or periodic health check that can tell you when the broadcast stops progressing. Process restart is not the same as a healthy stream: it does not by itself detect a frozen image, silent audio, an invalid key, an ingest failure, or a YouTube interruption. Looping, restart behavior, health checks, and alerting are operational choices, not a YouTube-certified 24/7 recipe.

Plan for rights, policy, and monetization
Copyright can interrupt a live stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. A detected match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream, a warning, an interruption, or termination if the material remains. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Keep records of permissions and resolve allowlisting with the rights holder before relying on licensed material in a continuous stream.
A loop is not automatically monetizable
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified its policy by renaming “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content”; the policy covers repetitive or mass-produced material. Reused-content review is separate from copyright permission, so having permission to use footage does not, by itself, establish that your channel adds original value. Do not assume a loop will pass channel review or qualify for monetization.

Decide whether to archive
YouTube’s published qualified-watch-hours guidance says public long-form videos and archived livestreams can count toward qualified public watch hours; livestreams that are not archived are excluded under that rule. This is only one part of YouTube Partner Program eligibility, not a guarantee of eligibility or acceptance.
Size an India VPS around the actual workload
There is no established best Indian VPS vendor, current plan price, required CPU, or bandwidth allowance for this channel. Requirements vary with whether you transcode, the media profile, and the provider’s network and terms. Before choosing a plan, check:

- Whether sustained outbound video traffic is allowed and how egress is measured or charged.
- CPU headroom if you transcode, or whether the chosen encoding path needs supported hardware acceleration.
- Disk space for the source media, logs, and any temporary files.
- Data-center location and the quality of the route to YouTube ingest from that location; verify with your own stream rather than assuming proximity guarantees a good route.
- Reboot and recovery controls, support availability, and whether the provider permits continuous streaming under its terms.
- How much interruption you can accept and what monitoring or manual intervention you can provide.
For a loop, the source file must fit on the VPS unless your chosen workflow reliably reads it from another location. For a live camera setup, the VPS must receive the live input continuously; a disconnected input cannot be fixed by restarting the YouTube output process.
