Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo make a 24/7 YouTube jazz café radio stream, play a rights-cleared playlist through a streaming encoder, pair it with a licensed still image or other visual, and send the resulting audio-video feed to a YouTube Live broadcast. The playlist alone is not a stream: an encoder such as OBS must remain active, and playback, internet access, and YouTube ingestion all need to keep working.
What you need before going live
- Music cleared for continuous YouTube Live use. Confirm permission for the specific recordings, compositions, territories, and live-stream use. Ask rights owners about Content ID allowlisting.
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. Complete verification and activate Live in advance; YouTube recommends testing the full setup privately before launch.
- A playback source and visual. Prepare an audio playlist and a still image or other visual you are licensed to use. The scene design is your implementation choice, not a YouTube requirement.
- An encoder and a stable operating setup. OBS can run on a local computer; an automated FFmpeg setup on a VPS is another option. The encoder sends the audio-video feed to YouTube.
- A monitoring and recovery plan. Decide who can inspect the live dashboard, restart playback or the encoder, and respond to a failure.
YouTube’s Live API distinguishes the viewer-facing broadcast from the incoming stream and its settings. You can think of the broadcast as the YouTube event and the stream as the encoder’s feed into it. YouTube documents 24/7 broadcast scenarios, but that is not a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime.
Clear the music rights before building the stream
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. Its policy says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match may replace your live picture with a placeholder and, if the matched content continues, interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.
A license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption. YouTube instructs licensed streamers to ask the content owner to add their channel to the owner’s Content ID allowlist. Confirm both the permission and the allowlisting arrangement with the relevant rights holders before you go live.

Check the exact recordings and territories
For every track, check rights in both the composition and the recording, as well as the countries in which you intend to stream. A public-domain composition does not automatically clear a modern recording, and a generic “royalty-free” label does not establish that a license covers continuous YouTube Live use in every territory. The required rights depend on the catalog, license, and jurisdictions; ask the rights holders or a qualified adviser about your specific use and retain written permission.
Understand live interruptions versus archive claims
YouTube describes live scanning and possible interruption separately from Content ID claims on an archived live stream. If you choose to archive the broadcast, claims on that archive may be made after the stream ends. Planning for archive rights does not replace clearing live use.

Prepare the YouTube channel and broadcast
- Verify the account and enable Live. Complete YouTube’s verification and live-stream activation requirements ahead of launch. The official Live Streaming Guide recommends enabling Live in advance; confirm current requirements in YouTube Studio because availability and interface details can change.
- Create or schedule a live broadcast in YouTube Studio. In the Live Control Room, set up the viewer-facing broadcast and select the encoder workflow. Keep the broadcast and incoming stream details available while configuring your encoder.
- Use the stream key carefully. Copy the key from YouTube’s live setup into the encoder’s YouTube streaming configuration. Treat it like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or put it in public scripts.
- Choose an ingestion protocol supported by your encoder. RTMPS is YouTube’s documented secure route and is a suitable default for ordinary content where low latency is useful. HLS is available for compatible encoders but has higher latency and requires segmented media and a rolling playlist; it is not necessary for a basic radio-style stream.
YouTube’s current help page specifies HLS segment durations of 1–4 seconds and describes its playlist and segment requirements. Follow the encoder-specific instructions in YouTube’s HLS setup guide if you choose HLS. For RTMPS, use Google’s RTMPS ingestion documentation and the matching encoder settings.
Build and configure the playlist scene in OBS
OBS is one documented desktop route to YouTube. The precise menu labels can vary with OBS and YouTube Studio versions, so use the current OBS Project setup guide alongside the controls visible in your installed version: How to stream to YouTube with OBS Studio.

- Create a scene for the radio program. Add an audio source that plays the playlist and a video source such as a licensed still image. Add any on-screen text or visual elements only if you have permission to use them.
- Set audio output and check levels. Route the playlist into OBS, confirm that the meter responds, and listen for clipping, silence, abrupt gaps, or unwanted system sounds. Test transitions between tracks and what happens when the playlist reaches its end.
- Configure the YouTube connection. In OBS’s stream settings, choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream key from the Live Control Room, or use the available account connection flow. Do not expose the key.
- Set video output for a still-image program. Select a resolution and frame rate appropriate to your graphic and system; a static visual does not need a high frame rate for its own sake. Match encoder output to the capabilities of your connection and encoder. YouTube’s ingestion settings and recommendations can change, so consult its current live setup guidance rather than assuming one bitrate or keyframe value suits every stream.
- Test privately before scheduling a public launch. Start the encoder, check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and confirm that audio and video arrive as intended. Google recommends a private test of the complete setup before going live.
OBS does not make the stream independent of the computer: if the computer sleeps, OBS stops, power fails, or the connection drops, the outgoing feed can stop. Disable sleep for the streaming session and consider whether local power and network reliability are acceptable for the duration you want to broadcast.
Keep playback running and recover from failures
A 24/7 stream depends on several links: the playlist source must keep playing, the encoder process must stay up, the network must carry the feed, and YouTube must ingest it. A successful test proves the setup works at that time; it does not prove it will run indefinitely.

- Watch the Live Control Room. Check stream status and health information, and keep encoder logs available for diagnosis.
- Plan for track and playlist boundaries. Confirm that playback advances automatically and does not stop when the final item ends. Test a full loop rather than assuming a playlist repeats.
- Decide who handles incidents. Specify who can restart the source or encoder, how they will be alerted, and how quickly they can respond. Automatic restart behavior depends on the encoder and hosting setup.
- Test a restart and reconnection. Before public launch, test what viewers see if the encoder closes, the source ends, or the connection briefly fails. Confirm how you will reconnect the feed to the intended broadcast.
YouTube exposes stream status and health through its live-stream resources; see Google’s LiveStreams documentation. A platform health indicator helps identify ingestion problems but does not restart your local computer or repair a failed playlist source.

The trade-off is not simply OBS versus FFmpeg. It is how much control you want, how much setup and maintenance you can handle, and who is responsible for recovering the stream.

| Approach | What it suits | Trade-offs to assess |
|---|---|---|
| OBS on a local computer | A creator who wants a desktop interface and direct control over scenes and sources. | The computer, power, and internet connection must stay available; you handle software and recovery. OBS Project documents a YouTube setup workflow, but no specific computer or uptime result is established here. |
| FFmpeg automation on a VPS | A technically comfortable operator who wants scripted playback and remote server administration. | Requires configuration, server administration, monitoring, and recovery planning, with recurring hosting expense. A secondary guide published May 29, 2026 describes this as an implementation example, not a YouTube requirement or independent product evaluation: RadioTech Studio’s 24/7 streaming guide. |
| RTMPS ingestion | Ordinary live content where a secure, relatively low-latency connection is useful. | Use an encoder that supports YouTube’s RTMPS ingest instructions; configure it according to Google’s documentation. |
| HLS ingestion | A compatible encoder and workflow that specifically needs HLS. | Higher latency and more configuration, including playlist and segment handling; YouTube documents 1–4-second segment durations. |
If you choose a local setup, select a computer based on the encoder, source, and output workload you plan to run; YouTube does not require a particular computer model. If you choose hosting, account for the provider’s recurring cost and your responsibility for server administration and incident response. Neither approach is universally best for every channel.

Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| The Live Control Room does not receive a feed | Encoder connection, selected service, stream key, or ingestion settings. | Confirm the broadcast is ready, the encoder is pointed at the intended YouTube service, and the key is copied correctly. Check encoder logs and YouTube’s stream status. |
| Viewers hear silence or distorted audio | Playlist playback, source routing, audio levels, or an unexpected system-audio route. | Check the OBS audio meter and listen to the encoder output during a private test. Confirm that the playlist advances and that levels do not clip. |
| The stream stops at a playlist boundary | The player may stop at the final track instead of repeating. | Test the entire playlist cycle privately and configure the source or automation to repeat; verify the next track actually starts. |
| The picture is replaced or the broadcast is interrupted | A third-party content match may have been detected. | Review YouTube’s notice, confirm rights for the matched material, and ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel if you are licensed. Do not simply restart with the same uncleared content. |
| The feed disappears after a computer or network problem | A local encoder depends on its host machine and connection. | Restore power or connectivity, restart playback and the encoder, then check the Live Control Room. For a VPS, inspect the service and logs and follow your restart procedure. |
| HLS has excessive delay or fails to ingest | HLS has higher latency and additional playlist and segment requirements. | Check the encoder’s HLS configuration against YouTube’s current HLS setup requirements; consider RTMPS if HLS is not needed and your encoder supports it. |
Final pre-launch checklist
- Written permission covers the tracks, recordings, intended territories, and continuous live use.
- Relevant rights owners have confirmed Content ID allowlisting where required.
- The channel is verified and Live is enabled; the stream key is private.
- A private full-setup test confirms audible, continuous playback and working visuals.
- The playlist repeats as intended, and the person responsible knows how to inspect health and recover the feed.
- You understand that YouTube’s support for 24/7 broadcast scenarios is not a promise of uninterrupted service.
