For a Punjabi music playlist stream, use OBS’s VLC Video source to play and loop multiple local tracks, then send the stream to YouTube over RTMPS. Start with a simple visual and a modest output setting—such as 720p at 30 fps for a static image—and choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; test the complete setup before relying on it. A nonstop stream is not guaranteed to stay uninterrupted, and you need rights to broadcast every track.
What you need before setting up OBS
- A current OBS installation and local copies of the Punjabi tracks you plan to stream.
- VLC installed if you want to use OBS’s VLC Video source. Match VLC’s architecture to OBS: for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- A YouTube channel that can start a live stream, a stream key from YouTube Studio, and a stable wired or wireless internet connection with enough upload capacity.
- Permission covering each track’s live broadcast, territory, and any archive or monetization you intend to use. Possessing an audio file does not by itself grant rebroadcast rights.
OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends starting with the Auto-Configuration Wizard, which considers your hardware and network conditions. Treat its result as a starting point, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. OBS Quick Start Guide
Build and loop the Punjabi playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. Close OBS, install the VLC version that matches your OBS architecture, then reopen OBS. The VLC Video source is available only when VLC is installed.
- Create a scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add a scene for the music stream. Add the visual you intend to show—such as a still image you have permission to use—and arrange it in the preview.
- Add the playlist source. In Sources, select + and choose VLC Video. Add the local audio or video files in the order you want them to play.
- Enable looping. In the VLC Video source properties, check Loop Playlist. OBS documents this option as enabled by default, but confirm it in the source rather than assuming it is on.
- Keep the source active. OBS’s documented visibility behavior is to stop a VLC source when it is not visible and restart it when it becomes visible. Keep the playlist source visible in the live scene, or deliberately test what happens when you switch scenes.
- Check audio and picture. Play the source and verify that OBS’s audio meters move, the visual is framed correctly, and the music is audible at a consistent level. Make a short test stream before the planned broadcast.
For one file rather than a multi-track playlist, OBS’s built-in Media Source can play local audio and video files. Its individual-file Loop setting is separate from VLC Video’s playlist loop. See OBS Media Sources.
Choose YouTube output settings that fit the stream
YouTube’s encoder guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, recommends RTMPS, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), frame rates up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Set OBS’s output to match the resolution and frame rate you actually need, then choose a bitrate from YouTube’s table for that resolution, frame rate, and ingestion codec. The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, not a guarantee that your computer or connection can sustain them. YouTube: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions

| Output target | H.264 minimum bitrate | H.264 recommended bitrate | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p, 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | A practical starting point for a static cover image or other simple visual. |
| 1080p, 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | Use when the visual benefits from the extra resolution and your upload can sustain it. |
| 1080p, 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps | Usually unnecessary for a static image; consider it only if motion in the visual justifies 60 fps. |
These are YouTube Help’s H.264 figures as accessed in 2026. They are not OBS-specific presets and do not account for every codec or connection. If your upload is inconsistent, reduce the resolution or bitrate and test rather than selecting a high target that causes dropped frames.
Set the stream destination and encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open the live control room and create or select the broadcast. Copy its stream key without sharing it publicly.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect your account or use the stream key option. If entering a key, paste it carefully; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Use YouTube’s recommended RTMPS server connection where the OBS service configuration offers it. Check the live control room’s preview before starting the public broadcast.
- In Settings > Output, select the streaming encoder and set the rate control to CBR. Use the YouTube bitrate table for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec, while allowing enough upload headroom for normal network variation.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. If OBS displays this as a keyframe interval in frames, convert seconds using the output frame rate—for example, 60 frames at 30 fps or 120 frames at 60 fps.
- Choose AAC or MP3 audio encoding, as listed in YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Confirm that the music source is routed to the streaming audio mix and that desktop or other unwanted audio is not being captured.
For a still image paired with music, 30 fps is generally sufficient; 60 fps and higher resolution do not improve the audio. YouTube transcodes live streams, and OBS notes that a consistent keyframe interval helps viewers transition smoothly between quality options. OBS: Transcodes / Transcoding

Test the stream and monitor it while live
- Run an upload speed test on the connection you will use. YouTube recommends testing before the event and monitoring stream health during it; leave headroom rather than assuming a speed-test result is continuously available.
- Start a short, private or otherwise suitable test broadcast with the actual playlist, visual, and encoder settings. Check the YouTube preview, audio, and stream-health status before depending on the setup.
- Watch OBS’s dropped-frame count and connection indicator. OBS explains that a rising dropped-frame count and a yellow or red indicator can signal an unstable connection to the streaming server or a bitrate the connection cannot keep up with. Lower the bitrate or resolution, or resolve the connection problem, then test again. OBS Help Portal
- Check that the VLC playlist advances to the next item and returns to the beginning at the end. Leave the source visible in the live scene so its documented stop-when-hidden behavior does not interrupt playback.
OBS and YouTube guidance do not establish a maximum runtime, guaranteed unattended reconnection, or indefinite uptime for a local setup. A long-running broadcast depends on the computer, OBS, local media, power, and network continuing to work; plan to monitor it and test your recovery procedure.
Copyright and YouTube policy checks for Punjabi music
The language or genre of a playlist does not establish permission to broadcast it. Before going live, verify that the rights you have cover each recording and composition for live streaming in the territories where viewers may access it. Also check whether the permission covers an archived replay and monetization if you intend either. A track file purchased, downloaded, or otherwise accessible to you is not automatically cleared for public rebroadcast. YouTube may identify copyrighted material during or after a stream; the material available here does not establish clearance for any particular Punjabi track, so confirm rights with the relevant rights holders or licensing provider.

Troubleshooting common OBS playlist-stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video is missing from Sources | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC matching OBS; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC, then restart OBS. |
| Playlist stops after one pass | Loop Playlist is off, or the wrong source type is being used. | Open VLC Video properties and check Loop Playlist. For a single Media Source file, check its separate Loop option. |
| Music stops after switching scenes | The VLC source is hidden, and its visibility behavior stops playback. | Keep it visible in the live scene and test scene changes before broadcasting. |
| No music reaches YouTube | The source may not be playing, its audio may be muted or unmetered, or it may not be in the stream mix. | Start playback, check OBS’s audio meters and mixer mute state, and confirm the live test has sound. |
| OBS shows dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator | The connection to the ingest server may be unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate. | Test upload capacity; lower bitrate or resolution and repeat a test stream. |
| YouTube preview looks soft or quality options change poorly | The output resolution, bitrate, or keyframe interval may not fit the target or connection. | Compare settings with YouTube’s table for the selected codec and resolution; use a consistent two-second keyframe interval and test. |
| The broadcast is interrupted during a long run | A local computer, network, power, or application interruption can stop the workflow; uninterrupted runtime is not established. | Monitor the computer and stream, and test how you will restore the broadcast after an interruption. |
