Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →OBS network-dropped frames mean your computer is struggling to deliver the stream to YouTube reliably or at the bitrate you selected. They do not, by themselves, prove Airtel is at fault. Start with a wired test, pause competing uploads, check sustained upload headroom, and reduce stream load if needed; then test another YouTube ingest endpoint and isolate local network causes.
First, confirm what is dropping
During a private or unlisted test stream, open OBS’s Statistics window and note the network-dropped-frame count, bitrate behavior, and the time any drops occur. OBS describes network drops as a connection that is unstable to the remote server or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. This is different from rendering lag or encoding lag, which point to other parts of the streaming pipeline.
Network-dropped frames concern delivery from your computer to YouTube. They are not the same as a viewer’s video buffering because of that viewer’s own internet connection. The OBS counter alone cannot identify whether the cause is Wi-Fi, your router, the route to YouTube’s ingest server, available upload capacity, or Airtel’s network.
The OBS Project says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” That makes connection and bitrate checks the useful starting point, rather than reinstalling OBS as the first fix. OBS: Stream Connection Troubleshooting

Run a controlled connection test
Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi
If the streaming computer is on Wi-Fi, connect it directly to the router by Ethernet and repeat the same test stream. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. If the drops stop, the wireless link or its local conditions are implicated; that result does not establish that Airtel’s broadband line itself is faulty.
Pause competing traffic
Pause cloud backups, file uploads, large game downloads, and other devices’ heavy uploads while testing. YouTube notes that shared use reduces the bandwidth available to an individual stream. Keep the same stream settings during the first comparison so you can tell whether changing the connection conditions made a difference. YouTube Help: Streaming tips
Measure sustained upload headroom
Check outbound upload capacity, not only download speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom and says total bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth. Account for both primary and backup feeds if you send both. A single short speed test is not evidence that the connection can sustain the same capacity throughout a long stream.

Compare the stream’s configured bitrate with upload performance while normal household or office traffic is present. If upload capacity fluctuates or does not leave enough margin, lower the bitrate and test again. If needed, lower resolution or frame rate as well. Repeat under the same conditions and watch whether network drops diminish.
Match OBS settings to stable upload capacity
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, CBR bitrate encoding, H.264 as a supported video codec, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. Its recommended H.264 bitrates include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Airtel connection can sustain those rates. The guidance page does not display a publication year, and platform recommendations can change, so check its current table before configuring a new stream. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Video codec: H.264 is supported.
- Bitrate: choose a rate your measured, sustained upload can carry with headroom; YouTube’s resolution recommendations are not a capacity test for your line.
Test with motion and audio similar to the actual loop. During the test, watch OBS’s bitrate and network-dropped-frame figures alongside YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and any error message shown there. If the chosen resolution cannot be sustained, YouTube advises considering a lower resolution. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings · YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your live stream

Test the ingest route and OBS network options
Try another YouTube ingest endpoint
OBS recommends testing a different server or ingest endpoint. If the same computer, wired connection, and bitrate behave differently on another endpoint, the issue may be specific to a route or ingest path rather than an OBS encoding setting. Change one thing at a time and note the outcome.
On Windows, test network options individually
In OBS, open Settings → Advanced → Network. OBS recommends trying Network Optimizations and TCP pacing on Windows. Keep Bind to IP set to Default. You can test IPv4 Only as a diagnostic, but if it makes no difference, return to the default IPv4 and IPv6 behavior.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDynamic bitrate can lower the bitrate during congestion and may reduce drops, but it does not repair the underlying connection and can reduce video quality. Treat it as a trade-off, not a permanent diagnosis. Record the result of each change and revert settings that do not help. OBS: Stream Connection Troubleshooting

Isolate local software and hardware
OBS identifies VPNs, security software, network-optimization utilities, outdated network drivers, Wi-Fi, and modem, router, or other network-device connectivity as possible causes. Use a controlled test to isolate them rather than changing several at once.
- Temporarily test without a VPN or suspected traffic-prioritization or network-optimization software.
- If a security product is confirmed to interfere, create an OBS exception and re-enable protection; do not leave security disabled as a general fix.
- Check for network drivers from your computer or motherboard manufacturer.
- Where possible, test a direct wired path that bypasses an extender, switch, or other intermediate device.
- Replace a router, modem, cable, switch, or extender only if testing identifies that item as the failing component. There is no evidence that a particular cable grade or new router is required just because OBS reports network drops.
When and how to contact Airtel
If drops persist on Ethernet with competing uploads paused and a bitrate that fits observed capacity, save the OBS log and gather details before contacting support. OBS recommends contacting your internet service provider after the earlier troubleshooting steps.
- Record the date and time of each incident and your location.
- Note whether the computer was wired or on Wi-Fi, the configured bitrate, and the bitrate behavior during drops.
- Record the YouTube ingest endpoint, OBS network settings, and any Live Control Room stream-health message.
- Say whether another endpoint or another network produced a different result.
- Ask Airtel to investigate the line and route during the affected times, and provide the log and observations.
No Airtel-specific OBS setting, confirmed Airtel fault, or universal fix for this symptom is established here. Airtel conditions can vary by location and time; the evidence above helps support investigate without assuming the ISP is responsible. OBS: Stream Connection Troubleshooting
