Set white balance after arranging the lights you will use on stream. For a stable setup, use your camera’s custom white-balance procedure with a neutral white or gray reference, or select manual Kelvin and adjust while watching the streaming preview. Once neutral objects and skin look right, keep the setting fixed until the lighting changes. There is no single Kelvin value that is correct for every room.
What white balance does—and why it matters on stream
White balance compensates for the color of the illumination so that neutral subjects appear neutral. Without a suitable setting, a face or white wall can look too orange, blue, or green. The camera’s white-balance processing is based on the color temperature of the light; see the Canon EOS R50 manual for its explanation and controls.
Matching the setting to the actual light is different from deliberately shifting the color for a creative look. A Kelvin control is a way to adjust the camera’s interpretation of the light, not a universal recipe for streaming. Manufacturer ranges describe what a particular camera lets you select, not the right value for every lamp or room.
Choose auto, custom, or manual Kelvin
Custom white balance: best for a stable setup
If your lighting and camera position stay consistent, a custom balance made at the shooting location is a repeatable starting point. The Canon manual says: “With custom white balance, you can manually set the white balance for the specific light source of the shooting location.” Both Canon and Panasonic document using a white or gray card as the reference. A neutral gray card or white-balance card is useful, but optional; use the procedure and target size your camera specifies.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Manual Kelvin: a direct adjustment
Choose a color-temperature value and make small adjustments while viewing the image. The Canon EOS R50 manual lists approximately 2500–10000 K in 100 K increments; Panasonic lists 2500–10000 K for the LUMIX S5M2/S5M2X. These are selectable ranges for those named models, not recommended settings for all cameras or rooms. Consult your own camera’s manual for its range and increments.
Auto white balance: useful when light changes
Automatic white balance can adapt as the scene changes, but its rendered color can also shift as the scene changes. That may be noticeable when the camera view is otherwise static. This is an operational trade-off, not a measured performance comparison. For camera software that provides both modes, see the Elgato Facecam Camera Hub settings guide.

Set white balance before going live
- Build the final lighting setup. Place your key, fill, and background lights where they will be during the stream. Let the camera show the same view and exposure you intend to use.
- Choose a neutral reference for custom balance. Hold a plain white or gray card under the subject’s light. Follow the camera’s custom-balance instructions for framing and filling the target area. Avoid clipping the reference: Canon warns that an exposure far from standard can prevent correct white balance.
- Register the custom setting. Use the camera’s specified capture, import, or registration process. Menu names and steps vary by model. As one model-specific example, the Canon EOS R50 supports registering a photographed white target and also permits a gray card or standard 18% gray reflector.
- Or adjust Kelvin manually. Start with a value that visually matches the actual illumination, then make small changes while watching the feed. Judge neutral objects and skin rather than choosing a number because it is described as the “best streaming Kelvin.”
- Check the real stream path. Look at the preview or output that viewers will receive, not only a camera menu. Confirm that the setting is applied by the camera or webcam software and that another control is not overriding it.
- Keep the selected balance fixed while the lighting remains stable. Recheck it if you change the light sources, move the camera, or substantially change the mix of light.
Make sure the setting reaches the streamed image
White balance may be controlled in the camera, a webcam utility, or both, depending on the setup. FUJIFILM X Webcam exposes white-balance mode and a color-temperature selection when that mode is chosen; its guide says the last selected white balance or temperature is restored after exit and relaunch or a camera power cycle. Elgato Camera Hub documents automatic and manual white balance for Facecam.
For a camera connected over USB, check how its video-mode settings are sent to the computer. Nikon says video-mode settings, including white balance and Picture Control, apply to USB streaming on the Z5II. Nikon also cautions that some menus may be operated while streaming, during which a gray image is streamed; avoid changing such settings mid-broadcast unless you have confirmed what viewers will see.

Handle mixed or changing light
Different light sources in the same shot can make a single setting difficult to match across the whole scene. Panasonic notes that the optimal white balance under fluorescent and LED fixtures varies with the lighting type. Where possible, make the subject’s light consistent, then calibrate under that mix. If daylight from a window changes during a stream, or you switch fixtures, check the preview and recalibrate or choose an appropriate automatic mode.
Troubleshoot color that looks wrong or keeps shifting
- The whole image looks too orange or blue: Confirm that the active setting matches the lights currently illuminating the subject. Recalibrate at the shooting location or adjust Kelvin in small steps.
- Neutral objects look green or magenta under artificial light: Check whether your camera offers a green–magenta adjustment in addition to color temperature. Canon notes that artificial-light correction may need magenta/green adjustment on the EOS R50; this is model-specific.
- The color changes while the scene is still: Check whether white balance remains on automatic, and inspect webcam software for a separate white-balance control that may override the camera. FUJIFILM X Webcam and Elgato Camera Hub document software-side controls.
- Custom balance will not register: Follow the camera’s framing and exposure instructions. Make sure the neutral target fills the required area and is not clipped; Canon warns that exposure far from standard can prevent a correct result.
- The image changes when you open a menu during USB streaming: Some camera menus can interrupt or alter the streamed image. Nikon specifically warns that a gray image may be streamed while certain menus are operated on the Z5II. Make adjustments before going live where possible.
- Colors no longer match after a room or gear change: Recheck after moving the setup or changing the lighting mix. A prior custom balance is tied to the light conditions under which it was made.
Or let it run in the cloud
White balance is set in your camera or webcam workflow; a cloud service does not change the camera’s color settings. If your separate goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo runs that stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month.
