The store or retailer—not YouTube—handles orders, fulfillment, customer service, returns, inventory, and creator payment.
1. Choose what to sell and how to make it
Start with products that make sense for your channel and audience: for a gaming channel, that might mean apparel or other items featuring original channel branding, artwork, or catchphrases. YouTube does not prescribe a specific product, garment, printing method, or merch provider. Check that you have the rights to use every design element, including names, logos, artwork, and game-related imagery.
Then choose a production route:
- Platform-produced or print-on-demand: A commerce or merch platform produces and fulfills orders. Confirm its product options, customization, costs, shipping regions, delivery estimates, returns policy, and YouTube integration before committing.
- Self-managed production: You source products and arrange printing, inventory, packing, and shipping yourself or through separate vendors. This gives you more operational responsibility; buying blank T-shirts is relevant only if you plan to print or arrange printing on blanks.
Compare providers on product range, production and transaction costs, countries served, delivery and returns, how product listings reach YouTube, and who answers customer questions. YouTube’s official setup guidance does not establish a current provider ranking or universal fees, margins, shipping times, or availability. Check each provider’s live terms for your location.
2. Set up your store
You need a store on a platform or retailer supported by YouTube Shopping for your own products. Shopify is one documented route. Its setup uses the Google & YouTube app: connect a Google account with admin access to the YouTube channel, select the channel in the app, review the program rules, and complete the setup. Follow the current instructions in the app and YouTube’s Shopping help page.

Before you connect, make sure your store’s product listings, prices, stock, shipping destinations, and customer-facing policies are ready. Your chosen platform or retailer sets operational terms; YouTube does not act as your warehouse or merch fulfiller.
3. Check whether your channel is eligible
In YouTube Studio, check the channel’s current eligibility for Shopping. The Shopping tab appears only when the channel qualifies. For promoting your own products, YouTube’s listed criteria include participation in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), meeting the applicable YPP subscriber threshold or having Official Artist Channel status, restrictions related to Made for Kids content, and having no Hate Speech Community Guideline strikes. Requirements can change, so use the current YouTube Shopping eligibility guidance rather than assuming an older threshold still applies.

Selling your own merch is different from tagging another company’s products for affiliate commissions. The affiliate program has separate eligibility rules and participating countries. Check the relevant YouTube Shopping affiliate program guidance if you mean affiliate products rather than your own store.
4. Connect the store and submit products for review
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Earn > Shopping.
- Select Get Started or Connect new store, then follow the connection flow for your platform. For Shopify, complete the connection through the Google & YouTube app as described above.
- Submit or sync your product feed. YouTube and Google Merchant Center review product listings against their policies. For the documented Shopify setup, YouTube says review typically takes a few business days; timing can vary, so wait for the status shown in your account.
- Check review results. Individual items may be disapproved. The retailer or store admin can submit an appeal where available; correct listing or policy issues with that administrator.
Do not plan a launch around every item appearing immediately. Give the review process time and verify the status of the products you intend to promote.

5. Choose where to show approved products
Depending on your channel, product approval, content, viewer location, and device, eligible merchandise may appear in your channel store, video descriptions, product shelves, or product tags in videos, Shorts, and live streams. Availability is not identical for every viewer or piece of content. YouTube says shopping features may not appear on Made for Kids content, content with a copyright claim, content ineligible for monetization, or to viewers in an ineligible region.
Once approved items are available, use the shopping controls in YouTube Studio to select products and add them to eligible content. Check the displayed product and placement before publishing or promoting a video, Short, or live stream. For details on the current surfaces and controls, see YouTube’s Shopping help.

6. Confirm fulfillment before promoting a launch
The connected platform or retailer is responsible for merchandising operations such as warehousing, fulfillment, inventory management, customer service, refunds, and creator payment. Google does not fulfill the merchandise. Shipping coverage depends on the merchant’s configured countries of sale, so verify destinations, delivery estimates, return terms, product quality, and who handles order problems before announcing a launch.
YouTube cites a 2021 U.S. study in its tips for selling your own products: 89% of viewers agreed that YouTube creators give recommendations they can trust. The study, Google/Talk Shoppe’s Shopping at the Speed of Culture, surveyed 2,000 U.S. adults aged 18–64 who use video and was fielded in August 2021. It measures reported trust in creator recommendations—not merch purchase intent, sales, or conversion—so it should not be treated as a forecast for your store.

Keep a gaming-channel launch practical
- Use original or properly licensed designs; do not assume that featuring a game title, character, logo, or publisher artwork is permitted just because the channel covers that game.
- Order or otherwise check a sample when your production route allows it, and confirm product details before presenting the item to viewers.
- State shipping destinations and expected delivery information clearly, based on the merchant’s actual terms.
- Check product approval and content eligibility before relying on a tag or shelf to appear in a specific video, Short, or stream.
