If YouTube rejects a stream key from a DigitalOcean server in India, first check that the encoder has the current key and the matching stream URL and protocol from the same YouTube Live Control Room stream. If those match, investigate outbound connectivity and firewall rules on the Droplet. DigitalOcean’s India region is BLR1 in Bangalore, but the server’s location alone does not establish why a key or connection failed.
Identify what “rejected” means
Keep the exact error text. It determines whether to start with credentials or with the connection:
- Invalid key or authentication error: Check the selected stream and the key entered in the encoder.
- TLS/SSL error, connection timeout, or no connection: Check the stream URL, protocol support, port, and outbound network access.
- Encoder preview works but YouTube receives no stream: Check the Droplet’s outbound connection and whether its upload capacity can sustain the stream bitrate.
YouTube’s related help wording includes “error starting your encoder” and “connection timed out.” The exact error in your case matters; the description “rejected” does not by itself prove the key is invalid.
Refresh the key and match the YouTube stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy the current stream key shown for that stream and paste it into the encoder’s stream-key field. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a password: do not share it or include it in public logs or screenshots.
- If the key may be stale or compromised, an owner or manager can reset it in the stream settings. After resetting, immediately replace the encoder’s stored key with the newly generated one.
- Compare the encoder’s server or stream URL with the URL shown for that same stream in Live Control Room. A valid key paired with a different stream’s URL or a mismatched destination may still fail.
Use the destination shown in your own Live Control Room, not a host copied from a guide. The key, selected stream, URL, and encoder configuration need to agree.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check RTMP, RTMPS, and port settings
If the encoder is configured for RTMPS, confirm that its server URL is the RTMPS URL displayed for the selected stream, rather than an RTMP URL, and verify that the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says to try port 443 for the documented SSL issue or connection timeout. That is a targeted check for those connection symptoms, not a reason to change ports for every authentication error.
Change one setting at a time and retry, so you can identify whether the protocol, URL, or port was responsible. YouTube’s RTMPS guidance is at YouTube Help: Use RTMPS for live streaming.

Inspect outbound access on the DigitalOcean Droplet
A cloud firewall and the operating system’s firewall are separate controls. Review both for outbound rules that would prevent the encoder from reaching YouTube. DigitalOcean’s Cloud Firewall quickstart states that a Droplet has no outbound traffic permitted when no outbound rules are configured. Do not open broad inbound access to fix an outbound publishing problem.
- In the DigitalOcean control panel, identify the Cloud Firewall attached to the Droplet and review its outbound rules. Confirm the policy allows the traffic required by the encoder’s configured protocol and destination.
- On the server, inspect the host-level firewall and any local network policy for outbound restrictions that affect the encoder.
- Check whether the Droplet can maintain the outbound connection and whether its upload rate supports the stream’s total bitrate.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the combined bitrate of the primary and backup streams when estimating required upload capacity. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not state a publication year for that recommendation, so treat it as guidance rather than a date-specific service guarantee. See YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and DigitalOcean’s Cloud Firewalls quickstart.

Use a controlled comparison to isolate the fault
If you can do so without exposing the key, compare the same stream configuration in a controlled way:
- Confirm the Live Control Room stream, current key, URL, and protocol all match the encoder configuration.
- If RTMPS is supported and appropriate, test the matching RTMPS setting rather than mixing an RTMP URL with RTMPS settings.
- Try the same encoder and stream configuration from a separate network. If it works there but not from the Droplet, investigate the Droplet’s protocol support, DNS or connection path, and outbound firewall policy. If it fails from both, revisit the selected stream, key refresh, and encoder field mapping.
This comparison is a diagnostic inference from YouTube’s separate credential, encoder, and outbound-connection checks; it does not establish a specific cause in advance.

Common symptoms and fixes
| Symptom | First checks |
|---|---|
| Invalid key or authentication error | Confirm the selected Live Control Room stream, copy its current key, and update the encoder. If needed, have an owner or manager reset the key and replace the encoder value. |
| SSL/TLS error or timeout | Match the URL and protocol to the selected stream, verify encoder RTMPS support if using RTMPS, and try port 443 for the documented SSL issue or timeout. |
| Encoder preview is healthy but YouTube receives no stream | Check outbound connectivity, upload capacity for the total bitrate, DigitalOcean Cloud Firewall egress, and the host firewall. |
| It works from another network, but not from the Droplet | Focus on the Droplet’s outbound rules and connection path rather than assuming the key is bad. |
What BLR1 tells you—and what it does not
DigitalOcean lists BLR1 as its Bangalore, India datacenter. That identifies the server region; it does not show that YouTube blocks the region or that location caused a key rejection. Without the exact error, encoder software and version, URL and protocol, key status, and applied firewall rules, the cause cannot be determined from the server location alone. DigitalOcean’s region listing is available at Regional availability.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep pre-recorded video live on YouTube around the clock rather than troubleshoot an encoder on a Droplet, StreamNeo is a cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay running at home. It streams what you upload, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
