It does not establish that an Android TV box can act as a reliable 24/7 encoder or playlist player. Check the exact model’s capabilities before building a stream around it—and secure the rights to every track before broadcasting.
Why an Android TV box may not be able to broadcast
A device that plays YouTube or other television apps is not automatically a device that can send a live broadcast to YouTube. Android TV documentation covers TV apps and third-party TV inputs; it does not certify generic Android TV boxes as YouTube Live encoders. There is also a difference between watching a stream on a TV and originating one. YouTube’s documented Android Mobile Live workflow is built around a device camera and microphone, not a TV-box playlist running unattended. Google lists Android Marshmallow/API 23 or newer, a camera capable of 720p at 30 Hz, an onboard microphone, hardware-accelerated audio and video encoders, and YouTube app version 13.02 or higher for that workflow. Those are Mobile Live requirements—not general Android TV box specifications and not proof that a box supports continuous music playout. Choose the right production route

YouTube’s documented route for prepared content is an encoder-based workflow. Its guide explains how to create a stream, enter the server URL and stream key in the encoder, test the feed, and monitor its health. How to evaluate your exact TV box
Before buying hardware, installing an app or planning a continuous broadcast, verify each of these points for the precise model and software version. These are practical checks based on YouTube’s encoder requirements, not a certification list for any box.
- Encoder output: Does the device or supported software actually provide RTMP or RTMPS output to YouTube? Merely playing a video file is not enough.
- Codec and hardware support: Can it encode the video and audio formats your workflow needs, using hardware acceleration where required? YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as video codec options, and AAC or MP3 for audio in its RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance.
- Source playback: Can the system play the intended media continuously and send its audio and video into the encoder? Confirm how the source reaches the encoder rather than assuming a TV playback app can feed it.
- Operating system and app availability: Is the necessary encoder app available for that exact box and OS version? Check both app compatibility and the vendor’s documentation.
- Network and unattended operation: Is the connection stable for a long broadcast? What happens after a power interruption, network outage, app crash or dropped YouTube connection? Confirm whether restart and recovery are automatic or require intervention.
- Monitoring and archive: Can you check the YouTube preview and stream health during the broadcast, and do you have a separate recording plan if the full programme must be preserved?
YouTube recommends testing a stream before launch with audio and movement similar to the planned content, then checking preview and stream health and monitoring quality during the event. Encoder settings YouTube documents
If your chosen encoder supports YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS workflow, use YouTube’s current encoder guidance as the reference for its supported settings. The recommendations below describe YouTube guidance; they are not a guarantee that a particular box can encode or sustain them.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1.
- Audio codec: YouTube lists AAC or MP3.
- Bitrate mode: YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding. Use the bitrate appropriate to the resolution and frame rate selected in your encoder, consulting YouTube’s settings table rather than guessing.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Stream credentials: Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the key as private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel.
- Preflight: Test the actual media, audio and motion you intend to stream. Confirm the preview appears and stream health is acceptable before relying on a continuous broadcast.

Music rights and Content ID can interrupt a stream
Owning a recording or having permission to play a track privately does not by itself establish that you can broadcast it worldwide on YouTube. YouTube’s livestream terms say the content provider represents that it has the necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music licensing rights involving artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The precise permissions depend on the tracks and intended use; this is not a complete India-specific legal checklist. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and obtain appropriate permissions for every track before going live.
Rights clearance also does not guarantee uninterrupted playback. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may replace the stream with a placeholder image, interrupt it or terminate it. YouTube says licensed third-party material can still be interrupted unless the rights owner adds the channel to the Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and, where relevant, ask the rights owner about allowlisting.

Plan separately for a 24-hour archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not promise a complete automatic archive for a continuous stream lasting 12 hours or longer. If preserving the full 24-hour programme matters, arrange and verify a suitable recording or archive workflow separately instead of assuming the entire broadcast will be saved.
